Alrighty so I did get to catch tonight's episode so here is a second post for today!
I was really excited about the idea of us getting to see the mother and I didn't think it was a bad episode... I just thought that there were some things I would have liked to see done differently.
I feel like there were far too many callbacks. I realize its showing how the mother and ted were so close to meeting each other several times and just barely missed... but it felt like we were just watching episodes we had seen before with a different character. I am usually a HUGE fan of callbacks, but I feel like they just did wayyy too many in this episode. I'm glad they showed the mother's quirky robot artwork and her singing breakfast food habit... but I don't think they needed to have the Naked Man, the St. Patrick's day thing was okay but I thought there would be more, they didn't need to show her talking to Lilly about Darren and picking up Marshall because we literally JUST SAW THAT A FEW WEEKS AGO! The story was already established.
I thought that her boyfriend dying the day of her birthday and her not really getting over it was a very touching story... but it kind of also felt like a cop out. The writers had to explain why this girl had never found love and it was because she wasn't looking. I would have kind of liked to see her looking the way that Ted did...
Speaking of the mother looking for love... I'm wondering if the Mother was the woman that Ted was matched up with. I thought she was since the beginning and I was kind of hoping they would answer that in this episode. I have a feeling maybe she didn't show up for the date either and that her friend maybe signed her up for the service and she was reluctant to actually go on the date.
I thought the song that she sang at the end was very lovely and very meaningful to the show. I also loved her talking to her boyfriend before breaking up with Lewis.
There was nothing horrible about the episode... but it didn't knock me out of the park the way that I thought it would. I absolutely LOVE the Mother's character and I've been loving this season so far... but this episode was not the AMAZING 200th episode I thought it would be. I don't even think I need to watch it a second time because so much of the stuff that was in the episode I had already seen in previous episodes... so it just wasn't that special. The episode last week was SOOOOO soo good that I think by stopping that storyline for this little side-story lost a little bit of momentum for me.
What did you guys think? Agree? Disagree? Lemme know!
Byeeeee!
