Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror Recap- White Christmas

Okay... so after attempting and failing to re-watch The Waldo Movement- I did successfully re-watch White Christmas... and that's a kind of hard one to watch... BUT it is an amazing episode and it's just a great Black Mirror episode as a whole. I would compare this episode to Black Museum. Both episodes have the same format where they have 3 different stories in one episode... and I would say the two of these episodes combined really highlight the moral grey areas of the show. White Bear is another one... and White and black make grey... so that's my theory on that. The episodes with White and Black in the titles highlight the moral grey areas of the show. This episode also features technology that we've seen on other episodes of black mirror. There's a chip or something similar to The Grain in "The Entire History Of You" but in this version you can block people- which prevents you from seeing or hearing them and them from seeing or hearing you. It als...

Scribbles About TV:Shannon Watches Westworld (Pilot)

Okay... so I thought I would do a few more of these similar to my Black Mirror Recaps... right now I just watched the Westworld Pilot... and I'm intrigued. It isn't unlike Black Mirror... idk if I'll bingewatch all the episodes right away- I think I'll just watch a little at a time and I'll write about it when I do. I feel like this almost isn't my cup of tea... but I did kind of like it... and I think the way that they told the story of the first episode was pretty good. And a brief sort of synopsis of what the show is about... it looks like a regular Western show and that appears to be where the action takes place... but then you learn it isn't really set in a Western atmosphere... it's a theme park and everyone inside the theme park is a robot and they're having difficulties maintaining the robots- especially with the visitors. And the way that they show the robots is kind of grotesque looking- but also beautiful. They're all incredibly ...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2 Ep3- The Waldo Movement

Okay... I have to say after watching this episode I didn't quite know what to say about it in a review... and I just kind of stopped reviewing each episode on this blog... and I thought "ehhh I've got a few months prescheduled... I'll write it later." But I didn't... And I thought I would re-watch it before writing this today... and I tried re-watching it and I just didn't want to. It's one of the more sad episodes of Black Mirror...and kind of one of the more realistic ones... so I feel like that makes it harder to watch. So I don't really remember much of the episode... but I remember the basis of it. A comedian has this character that's a cartoon that makes some political commentary and he goes after this one politician and ends up gaining a lot of popularity. I believe this politician had some sort of scandal... but he's been in office for so long he was still really popular although slightly corrupt... and this woman runs against...

Scribbles About TV: The Santa Clarita Diet Season 2

So I watched this a while ago... when it first came out actually and I liked it a lot... but I didn't want to bingewatch it and I ended up bingewatching it all in one day... so I wanted to go back and watch it a little bit at a time... and then review it. And of corse... by that time I forgot to review it- so that's why I'm reviewing it now lol. This might be one of my favorite comedies on Netflix... I think I like it more than Grace and Frankie but less than Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I thought the first season was really great and suspenseful... although less violent than I thought it would be. This season I think was a little bit more violent and a little bit more suspenseful... but honestly... a little bit more funny. I think they kind of did a lot this season too... I didn't think we would find out what exactly caused Sheila's sickness... I didn't think that the serum they were working on last season would work right away... but I was kind of happy about...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2 Ep2: White Bear

So... I had heard part of the ending of this episode before but I didn't really remember it when I was watching this episode... it's pretty shocking and kind of hard to analyze... so I'll put a link to  this  video talking about it... just in case you wanted to check that out... I'm not saying I'll say the same things... but I liked this breakdown of it all... but I mean watch the episode first because this was a good twist and I don't really want to ruin it for you! So our main character in this episode is a woman, who's name we find out later is Victoria. Victoria wakes up with no memory and when she walks outside of her house- no one talks to her- everyone is just filming her... and it appears to be this dystopian society where people are basically zombies only using their phone to film people in horrible ways. There are a few people that weren't affected by this... one woman that ends up helping her, some man that is trying to kill her... and peopl...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2Ep1- Be Right Back

First off I'd like to leave  this  link with an analysis of the episode from Harry's Moving Castle... He does great videos analyzing each episode... and he discussed some themes that I didn't initially realize when watching this- like the Social Media Addiction of Domhnall  Gleeson's Character Ash- and I probably won't talk about because this isn't what I got from the episode... so I don't want to include it... but it is something important and I really liked his way of explaining it. Secondly- After watching this and The Entire History of You...this was when I needed a break from the show. I don't know why these episodes specifically... they aren't the darkest episodes of the series... but in a way they kind of are... and this one specifically I thought was the most unsettling of all the episodes... so it was just kind of hard to watch. I don't really know why. I think maybe it was this combined with The Entire History Of You... I don't ...

TV Roundup- What I think of Some New Shows!

I thought I would just do one whole big roundup of some of the new tv shows... what I think of them, what's working, what isn't working... and just everything! I did not love Splitting Up Together... I'm going to start out with that. When I saw the previews I was like "Oh, I love Jenna Fisher and I also like Oliver Hudson... but this show is going to get cancelled." And I think I'm right. I think maybe they'll give it a season 2... but it's very similar to The Real O'Neils. The Real O'Neils was a pretty okay tv show a couple of years ago on ABC where the parents got divorced, but the dad still lived in the basement. There was a lot of other stuff going on in The Real O'Neils- and the cast was pretty talented... but I think it's a hard thing for people to relate to when there's so much else on tv right now... I just don't think it really stood up. And this is kind of the same. Jenna Fisher and Oliver Hudson are talented, the cre...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep3 The Entire History of You

Okay... so this is the first episode in the first season where I was like "Ohhh- this world seems familiar." I feel like there's a lot of this kind of technology in further episodes of Black Mirror... and that's something I definitely didn't get when I was watching these episodes as stand alones... so I'll get into the recap of it and then I'll review it. And before I recap I'll post a link to the current videos I'm watching recapping the series right  here . I was watching the Gamespot Universe recaps- which I enjoyed... but they don't have recaps for the earlier seasons- only for season 4... so I watched this reviewer instead... I didn't really agree with his analysis of 15 Million Merits... so I didn't link it in the last post I did of this... but I really liked what he said about this episode and it helps to have some visuals of the episode if you haven't seen it yet. There are spoilers in his review though... so I wouldn'...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep 2: 15 Million Merits

Okay... so this episode is a little bit more what I've come to expect from Black Mirror I guess... so had I watched the episodes in order I think this would maybe make more sense to me than The National Anthem... which I reviewed last week. This is a complete dystopia in a really real and kind of beautiful way... I just kind of liked how they showed everything. So this episode kind of just puts us in the world with little explanation... to me it seemed like a world that was obsessed with fitness and looks. It showed people in this confined space with no windows or anything to really see or do except these giant screens that everyone is forced to watch at all times. I think they get "merits" which is their form of currency by riding an exercise bike and they mostly use merits for food or to skip over advertisements... which actually costs them more than their food. They also don't really interact with anyone... most of their emotions are seen through Avatars similar ...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep 1- The National Anthem

Alright... after watching Black Museum I didn't really think anything could make me feel more uncomfortable to write about... then I watched the first few minutes of this and I was like "Huh... that'll be an interesting recap."  So this episode is about an unknown person that kidnaps a Princess and says he will only release her if the prime minister has sex with a pig on live national television... and that's when things get crazy... They show the prime minister's first reaction to this which is "no way in hell am I doing that." Everyone else's reactions saying "Yes... definitely don't do that." The polls all pretty much say "No don't do that." Until the kidnapper sends a finger and everyone says "Yes... do that save the princess." And the whole thing is more about what the Prime Minister needs to do for his own approval rating vs. what he's doing for his safety or for the princess... and everyone'...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4 Ep 6 Black Museum

This episode is a tough one to handle... but it's probably the best episode of anything ever maybe... it's just really good. So in this episode a young woman named Nish stumbles into an odd museum claiming to be about criminals... and we see there are lots of odd artifacts used by different criminals... including the smashed Arkangel device from Arkangel, the device used to clone people from USS Callister along with the lollipop with the child's DNA on it... there were a lot of references to episodes in this season and from other episodes of Black Mirror. Some episodes were not referenced- which I guess means that those episodes took place after this episode took place... which is something that I want to get into after I finish up all the seasons because I know there's a shared universe here and this episode kind of confirms it more than anything. But there are 3 main attractions that we're introduced to from a man named Rolo Haynes that used to be a medical te...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4 EP5 Metalhead

Allllright so the review I just watched described this episode as one of the weakest episodes of the season... but I think it might have been one of my favorites! This episode doesn't really explain what is going on... you're just kind of thrown into this world and you get everything you need to know from that situation. So these 3 people are in a post apocalyptic world looking in an abandoned warehouse for something... and then they discover this robot-gun thing that we later hear referred to as a "Dog." It kills 2 of the 3 people in this group and then we're just left following this one woman as she tries to escape the dog. These dogs are kind of just like guns with 4 legs that are looking to destroy all the humans... in the recap video I watched... which by the way I've never mentioned but I watch the  gamespot universe recap videos  on youtube after I watch the episodes... these are just good. Anyway in this video they inferred that these were a securi...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4Ep4 Hang The DJ

Alllright! Hope everyone's having a nice weekend and you're ready for a nice Black Mirror Review of a nice episode... not to dark... actually a pretty cute ending!  So this episode seems to take place in a parallel universe... not much is explained- but the whole world seems to only focus around dating. No one really has a job or hobbies or friends or anything... its just this device that arranges people to find their "Ultimate match." Each date starts out at a restaurant... where the food is already ordered for you and the date is already picked out... and then whatever else you decide to do or not to do is kind of up to you... but it is designed to find your ultimate match so you can live happily ever after or whatnot. It always claims to be "99.8% effective."  So the device is referred to as "Coach" and it has an expiration date with each couple and you're supposed to check it together to see how long you'll be together... It coul...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4 EP 3 Crocodile

Okay... so this is the episode I had heard about being very dark and scary... and I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the right headspace to watch it... but I just did not like the episode that much! So the episode starts out with a couple partying, they seem drunk... then the guy driving hits someone and instead of calling the cops- which the girl wanted to do at first... he dumps the body into the river and drives away. Years later- this woman, Mia, is married to someone else and she's a successful architect and public speaker... she has a family and she's moved on past this situation... or so we think. The man confronts her saying he'd like to go to the cops about it... and she ends up killing him. This happens at the same time as an accident that is being investigated by an insurance company... and the insurance company actually has a device that can see your memories to see how things happened... and they end up investigating Mia about what happened and they...

Scribbles About TV: This Is Us- After the Superbowl

So I did MANY recaps of This is Us last year... but this year I just kind of didn't watch it. It's a great show and everything... but they just kind of milked that story with Jack's death WAYYYYY too long and it just made me a little bit impatient and... we already 90% knew last year... I'm not sure why it was such a huge reveal... but it was still a good episode nonetheless. This was a really great "after the super bowl" show because anyone could really enjoy it. I haven't seen the show this season and I understood and enjoyed all of it... I think if it was your first time watching you could still enjoy it. If you're a fan and loyal viewer- obviously you would probably be satisfied with getting some answers as to what happened for Jack's Death. So I think that this was a really good episode for after the super bowl. And This is Us usually follows a few different substories... This one we had the flashback to Jack's Death... then we had how...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4E2 Arkangel

Alright... this was my first really dark episode of Black Mirror that I've seen so far... so I'm kind of weirdly excited about that. Everyone always talks about how dark Black Mirror is... and it totally is... but every episode I've seen thus far has had a pretty good ending... with Nosedive maybe being the exception. Anyway this episode revolves around a single mother named Marie who loses her daughter, Sara one day at the playground and is so scared of losing her again that she has a chip inserted in Sara's head so that Marie can keep track of her... this chip is called "Arkangel" and it was a free trial to see if this was something that could be ready for the US or not (I suppose?). The chip allows the mother to know where her daughter is at all times, it allows her to see what the daughter is seeing, and it even allows her to conceal any images or words that might be too graphic for the daughter. This is all done through an ipad-looking device I should m...

New TV Reviews: 9-1-1, X Files Season 11, LA To Vegas, Grownish, Alone Together

Sooo I've seen a bunch of new tv shows... and I've really liked all of them... so I thought I would just do one mega review of everything... and here's what I think about it all. 9-1-1  This show had one of the best pilots I've ever seen and a great follow-up episode as well. It's just such a great show... really sucks you in when you watch it and makes you wonder what happens next. I think they did such a great job with character development for an ensemble... it's Ryan Murphy so obviously it's going to be amazing with an amazing  cast... Connie Britton, Angela Basset, the guy that played Nate on Six Feet Under... everyone is just so good and I'm really loving the show so far. It already has me hooked and this episode ended on a cliffhanger... so I'm excited to see what's coming next! The X Files  This season of the X Files is kind of funny because I'm actually watching it with my mom who isn't that into sci fi and she never really...

Scribbles About TV: Me, Myself and I Review

I was really excited for this show. The concept just seemed really unique to me and I was hoping they would be able to capture it in a really good way that was funny and heartfelt and I wanted the 3 storylines to be different- but to still connect nicely... and this was really perfect for that. So this show goes through the life of Alex Riley at 3 crucial points in his life. The Past, which shows Alex as a kid at a new school that is very nervous to start out. He invents things and he's a huge basketball fan... but for the Bulls, and he moved to California with his new Stepdad and Step Brother- who were both lakers fans... so he's nervous and he just wants to fit in. The Present shows 40 year old Alex who just found his wife cheating on him... gets a divorce and split custody of his daughter. He lives in someone's garage and his ex is planning on getting married and moving far away with their daughter. Alex wants to prove to his ex that he can do something to keep his d...

Scribbles About TV: Young Sheldon Review

Alright: Here's an exciting review of the highly anticipated tv show/ Big Bang Theory Prequel Young Sheldon. I thought it looked like a really fun show, a nice family version of The Big Bang Theory. It's set in the 80s, so that's always fun... and it just looked like a good show. So the pilot brings us through the first day of high school for Sheldon- at a very young age... I think they said he was supposed to be in the 5th grade. We see his mom, who is played by the real life daughter of Sheldon's Big Bang Theory mom, his twin sister, and his football playing father and older brother.  So for the most part... a lot of what they showed on the commercials was exactly what was in the episode. And that took away from the show a little bit... but if you saw the commercials- you know what you're getting yourself into and it was worth watching the whole episode anyway... if you missed it and you have no way of watching it for whatever reason (I had a hard time fin...

Scribbles About TV: American Horror Story Cult Review

So... for the first time in the history of me watching American Horror Story... I have no issues with the first episode of a season! Yayyy! I wanted them to do something election themed in their season last year... just because it seemed like such a missed opportunity to not have something election themed... I don't care what your thoughts on the election are... but obviously- everyone talks about Elections... it's just there all the time. And this one in particular was a bit of a shocker to a lot of people and there are VERY strong opinions on it... so it makes sense. And the weird thing is... it really isn't that political. They show why people aren't supporting Donald Trump... makes sense. They show why people don't support Hillary... Makes sense. They show why people support Hillary... also makes sense... They show why people support Trump- I can't actually say they really made sense of that though... I think because the main Trump supporter shown in this ...
