Woman Crush Wednesday: Rebecca Bunch AKA The Crazy Ex Girlfriend

So even though this show just started, its main character is already WCW worthy... so yeah! 1) She does what makes her happy- Rebecca didn't take her high paying job because she wasn't happy with it and she moved to West Covina because it just seemed like the type of place that would make her happy... and Josh just happens to live there. She knows what would make her happy and she just went for it. 2) She genuinely wants to be everyone's friend- In the first episode her new best friend (I forget her name... ugh) didn't like her very much until the end of the episode and she bonded with her really quickly. And then she became friends with Valencia, not just because she wanted to undermine her to get Josh, but because she thought they could be friends and go to vampire weekends together (that was one of my favorite jokes.) And she also wants to be friends with Josh, not just because she's in love with him, but the two really should be friends right? She's tryi...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Harley Quinn

I'm going to be kind of honest... I don't know much about Harley Quinn at all. I know that she's a batman villain, I know she's The Joker's Girlfriend and I know Margot Robbie is playing her in Suicide Squad. That's about it... plus she may not be an "inspiring woman" the way I wanted to sort of have all these things because she is a villain... but she is a badass lady and does seem to fit that mold. Plus she's a little different in every comic or cartoon... so thats cool. 1) There aren't many female villains- I feel like comic books are really lacking in their female villains and it's pretty cool that the Batman series has so many. Gillian Flynn says she likes writing her female characters with major flaws to show women aren't perfect. Women can be just as evil and flawed as the male villains too, and the facet that we don't show enough bad women is partially one of the problems of giving these high standards for women to be perf...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Miss Piggy

When I grow up I want to be like Miss Piggy.  1) She's all about her fans- I can't believe Kermit broke up with her just because she was signing autographs with her fans! So selfish! Piggy really values her fans and followers and doesn't mind missing Pitch Perfect 2 in order to take a few pictures and sign a few autographs and I think that is inspiring.  2) She's totally professional with her ex- She really does not let her relationship with Kermit get in the way of her career! If anything, its made her stronger and more successful! Up Late With Miss Piggy gets all the best guests and she's the only female late night talk show host... even if it is just the plot of a fictional tv show... it makes sense!  3) She doesn't let men take credit for her success- She didn't let Josh Groban take credit for Up Late With Miss Piggy! She put him in his place and said "Heyyy, this is my show I do it my way and you're name isn't on it!" And ba...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Felicity Smoak

I needed to do this. I did a post called "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink" On my other blog, and I chose Felicity as my first inspiration... because duh... and I'm going to do a Woman Crush Wednesday on her to. I think I'm going to keep this up for October and do a WCW and an On Wednesdays  We Wear Pink together... so that it'll be like feminist awesomeness. I started On Wednesdays We Wear Pink last October as a way to raise awareness and support for Breast Cancer... and I kind of want to coincide something inspirational about women in with that too because it's inspirational. I feel like October should be a second Women's History Month or something because its good to know about inspirational women while supporting a cause that is for inspirational women. You know? Okay, so that is that and Onto the Post! Also I'm only done with Season 1 right now... so this is going to be very Season 1 specific. Lol.  1) She didn't hesitate to help Oliver- Eve...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Jemma Simmons from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

So I just finished the episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D called FZZT which mainly focuses around Jemma Simmons from the Fitz-Simmons dream team of scientists in S.H.I.E.L.D. She really isn't the main character of the show or anything, but she's a really great character, and here are some things I like about her. 1) She's the smartest person in the room- In a room filled with brilliant agents and really strong and daring people... she's definitely the smartest person in the room all the time... which is impressive. She is kind of the Comic Relief to the show, but her brains make her one of the most interesting characters by far. She'll solve whatever problem they have and has really saved the day several times during the show, which is awesome. She may not be a regular field agent, but she is just as valuable as everyone else and she is awesome. 2) She is the only person that can cure the disease... and unfortunately the only person that contracted it- In FZZT its...

Feminist Friday: Dana Scully: The 90's Most Awesome (and badass) Woman.

So new thing I'm doing here. Tryin to change it up a bit with a Feminist Friday. What is Feminist Friday? Basically Woman Crush Wednesday... but on a Friday. Lol. I didn't have this by Wednesday. So since I've been rewatching the X Files I've realized how completely awesome Scully is and I'm gonna break it down a little as to why I think she's the coolest. She is never really Glamorized or Sexualized the way that other women on TV are  Gillian Anderson is absolutely gorgeous. She was about my age when they started the show I think, which is weird to think of. And it would have made a little bit of sense to have her be the super hot super young FBI agent and it would have made sense... but they showed her as a really real agent. She gets her hands dirty, she isn't in like a beauty patent or something, she's an actual real agent as much as Mulder is. Its something that they make a point not to do with Scully. And every once and a while it'll come ...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Julia Louis Dryfuss

1) She's always been funny- As long as I have existed Julia Louis Dryfuss has been one of the funniest people on the planet. There are lots of funny people... but JLD wins at life I think. Seinfeld? Amazing. Probably one of the first really funny women I've ever seen on tv. The New Adventures of Old Christine? Still awesome! It got cancelled too soon and I think its A) kind of a good thing because she's done other things since then and B) If it had actually had a final season with Christine going to college, that would have been the funniest thing ever. I could see it getting repetitive a little bit... but everyone on the show was amazing and it still makes me laugh in repeats. And Veep? Just one of the best shows on tv right now... and I think I'm going to do a whole post on Veep because I didn't used to like it and now I absolutely love it. And I always loved her on it and I just think its really cool that she plays the president now. Lol. 2) The Old Navy Commer...

Woman Crush Thursday?- Current Girl Crushes

So I missed doing a WCW yesterday... and honestly I can't even think of one specific person to pick out, so here are my snippets for my current list of woman crushes and why they are awesome. There is probably going to be a fuller post on them, but for right now, here's just a list of some awesome ladies.  I'm gonna start with Kat Dennings. I didn't even realize how much I loved her until this week. She's been on Fallon and Seth Meyers and Kelly and Michael and honestly she is an awesome guest to have. She is a really interesting person herself and she even makes the interviewer seem really interesting as well. She just seems like she has a ton of fun being on talk shows and she's genuinely a really smart, funny and interesting person. She also isn't afraid to talk about her relationship with Josh Groban, but she's also not just gonna talk about her boyfriend the whole time like "she's only with him because he's famous" type of thing...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Ellie Kemper

Ellie Kemper is one of the awesomest of the awesome ladies... so duhhh I have a woman crush on her! 1) She plays some pretty "shannon-y" characters- All of her characters are very relatable to me and she plays them to perfection pretty much. Independent and smart but also with "phoebe-ish" type qualities. I mean Phoebe from friends if that makes sense lol. Kimmy Schmidt doesn't understand the present because its the future for her. Erin was fun and smart but a little on the silly and awkward side... thats so much like me it isn't even funny. Even in Bridesmaids she was obsessed with Pixar. She's so good. 2) She is fantastic on talk shows- I feel like Ellie is really well spoken on talk shows and in public settings and that makes me like her even more. She was on Ellen and they talked about a lot of things from her engagement story to her being in a haunted hotel and she just always seems like she has something super interesting to say and a lot of gr...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Retta

1) Her twitter- I mentioned Retta's twitter in my Parks and Rec Recs because its one of the really good twitters. She watches good shows and live tweets, I think she still does that... I'm not super into twitter. But hers make me smile. She tells it like it is and she's cool. She's a cool twitter person to follow, so you should follow her to be cool. Peer Pressure! Lol. (side note, I always want to spell peer pressure Pier Pressure because of Arrested Development.) Just checked out her twitter and I really need to get back into this cause she has some great live tweets of shows like How To Get Away With Murder and Empire. 2) She was scared to be on Parks and Rec- So this is kind of a weird way to phrase this. On Seth Meyers she mentioned that she wasn't an improvisor before the show. She was just a comedian, but she was kind of scared to do improv on the show and intimidated by Amy Poehler and everyone... but she did it and she killed it! She was amazing as Donna....

WCW: Casey Wilson

Here's a quick (hopefully) WCW on one of my favorites: Casy Wilson  1) She's always the funniest star- In every tv show she's been in, she's always been incredibly funny and just a star. She's a scene stealer, even in smaller roles. Even in a serious movie like Gone Girl she totally fit that role perfectly. Not that she's actually a pregnant idiot, but the character was kind of over the top and funny and she played that perfectly. I kind of mentioned her in my most fascinating women of the year... But she's definitely a star, she stole every scene in Happy Endings and that's not an easy accomplishment. It's a funny show with a funny cast... She's just really really great.  2) She's really nice- if you tweet her she'll favorite it and tweet back sometimes. It's just something special that always makes me happy. Not everyone does it, so I'm happy she does.  3) she's a good writer-  The movie Bride wars that she wrote with June D...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Leslie Knope

Leslie Knope is probably my favorite female character of all time... here is why shes' awesome. 1) She is an amazing best friend- She is such a good friend to Ann Perkins and pretty much everyone else in her life. Its no wonder why Jeremy Jamm thinks of her as his best friend! She is so nice and thoughtful and will do anything for her friends and go a thousand times above and beyond and outdo herself every year. Thats how good she is as a friend. And even more than that, she can be friends with absolutely anybody, even if they are complete opposites or have nothing in common. Leslie and Ron are opposed on everything, and yet somehow they're amazingly good friends. Leslie and April really have nothing in common, but they're best friends too. Its not something everyone can do, but Leslie can.  2) She might be "bossy" or "stubborn" but with good reason- If someone were to call Leslie Knope either of those words, I would personally take offense. It isn...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Gillian Jacobs

So since I mentioned Community yesterday, I thought "hey you know who is funny and absolutely beautiful? Gillian Jacobs! So she is my woman crush because... 1) She's good at improv- she's always really good on Comedy Bang Bang the podcast and the tv show... It's pretty much entirely improvised and she's playing a character of herself and she really added a lot to the podcast with her character. And she's probably nothing like her character of herself in real life because I don't think she's a gold digger that has an on again off again relationship with Gary Marshall... Which brings me to point #2  2) She has a sense of humor about herself- On Gary Marshall's Wikipedia page it says that he's married to Gillian Jacobs. Well it did,idk if it still does. She always retweets this and she thinks it's just as funny as CBB fans do.  3) Community is awesome- She's just awesome on Community and it is an awesome show. She is good enough...

Women Crush Wednesday:Shannon Kahermanes's List of Most Fascinating Women of 2014

So in response to Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating people, I'm doing my own list of the most fascinating women. This is really more than 10 people... but I'm going to combine some of these women, I'm also only talking a little bit about some of them. I don't think I'll really go in any sort of order... but I'm going to save the person I think will end up being HUGE for the last... that way you can see. 11) Jamie Kern Lima- For those of you that don't know, Jamie Kern Lima is the founder of the Makeup Brand It Cosmetics. I only have one product from It Cosmetics... but I really like the message behind the company and I think Jamie has done a great job evolving this brand. It cosmetics works with plastic surgeons so that their make up is great for anti aging, and its made with good ingredients for the skin. It is also a cruelty free brand which I think is really cool. I think this brand was founded a while ago... but this year it became available in all U...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Women I'd love to see in the new Ghostbusters

So I'm gonna do something a little different this woman crush wednesday and write about all the women I would love to see in this movie. I don't think I'm going to mention the Queens... Amy and Tina (if you need to know a last name... this blog probably isn't for you.) I think thats a given... everyone knows them and loves them and I think that they will have some sort of cameo in the movie at least. Here are the ladies I'd really love to see. 1) Mindy Kaling- Duhhhh Mindy Kaling has to be in it! She mentioned an all female reboot of Ghostbusters in her book. I think she has to be in it. I don't know if I want her as the lead... I think she'd be good in the lead, don't get me wrong... but I'm not really focused on the lead just yet. Ghostbusters didn't really have a lead, all the men in that movie were just as memorable so thats why I'm not focusing on it. 2) Rebel Wilson- I love Rebel Wilson and I know she's kind of already had her b...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Ginnifer Goodwin

1) She's the perfect Snow White- I mean really! They could not have gotten a better Snow White! She looks like Snow, she seems very snow-ish and she's just like a real life princess. I think whoever did the casting for Once Upon A Time should be awarded or something. It is a hard thing to pull off recreating an iconic character, but I think Ginnifer Goodwin does a fantastic job of doing so. 2) She's been good in a lot of bad movies- Before Once upon a time, I was a fan of Ginnifer Goodwin... but there were no movies with her in it that I really liked. I didn't like Something Borrowed, I liked He's Just Not That Into You... but without Ginnifer it would have been bad. I think she was still really entertaining and fun to watch in these movies no matter how bad they are. She does a great job and she really does make a movie worth seeing, even if it isn't the best movie in the world. 3) I love her scenes with Charming on Once- This is a stupid and girlish thing ...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Garfunkel and Oates

1) They're both super funny separate and together- Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci are both incredibly funny people. Although the pair totally shines together, they're both super funny on their own as well. Kate was great as Raj's socially awkward girlfriend on The Big Bang Theory and Riki's been on At Midnight by herself and she's been super funny. They don't lean on each other for laughs, they support each other which makes them even funnier.  2) They're songs are super funny and super real- I feel like there are a lot of comedy musicians out there, and a lot of them have crazy outlandish songs that aren't real things that can happen. I can listen to a Garfunkel and Oates song and be like "ohhh that happened to me" or "ohhh I know someone that did that," it's like they're saying things that I've thought but wouldn't say out loud. Like "Pregnant Women are Smug" everyone knows it, nobody says it because they...

WCW: Pamela Swinford De Beuford

I kind of went over a lot of these in my MCM about Eric Northman... So I'll try to keep this short and non repetitive.  1) She is reluctant to become a maker, but she is a loyal and helpful to Tara when Tara is turned- I don't think Pam is the best maker...mostly due to her loyalty to Eric, but she definitely did love Tara more than anyone had really loved her and she really did help her accept the loss of her human life and become accept her new life. When Tara's mother disowned her, Pam said that she wouldn't even remember her in a few years. She may not have been a very good maker to Tara towards the end of Tara's life. She did abandon her for Eric when Tara was still pretty much a babyvamp... But when Tara needed her she was there. And Pam didn't really want to be a maker, especially to Tara, who she hated... But she accepted it and she ended up being a good maker overall.  2) She may be selfish, but she'll put her selfishness aside for the people she lo...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Melissa McCarthy

1) She's super SUPER funny- I feel like this goes without saying... But Melissa McCarthy is one of the funniest human beings on the planet... If not the funniest dare I say it. She was amazing in bridesmaids, and although I didn't think she was the "scene stealer" that she was dubbed in that movie (only because I thought everyone was absolutely AMAZING in bridesmaids) she has been the absolute funniest person in ever in many movie roles and she is just perfect. 2) She makes unlikable roles really likable and easy to relate to- Her characters are always super odd and usually quite hard to relate to. Tammy isn't someone you would necessarily want to hang out with in real life, but I feel like Melissa McCarthy made her so likable and easy to relate to that she had a depth other actresses wouldn't have brought to her. Another great example is her character in Identity Thief. Why should we like that girl at all? She's a criminal, she steals Jason Bateman'...

Woman Crush Wednesday: Cameron Diaz

1) She's always entertaining to watch- I've seen a lot of movies with Cameron Diaz in it, and I feel like she's just super fun to watch. Even if a movie gets bad reviews and its not great overall, like Bad Teacher for example, its still fun to watch because she's just so good in it. I just think she's one of those movie stars that really brings it to any movie she's in. 2) She can do different types of genres- I know she mostly does Rom Coms but she can step out of her comfort zone and do a lot of different things. I really liked the movie The Box that she was in and that was a psychological thriller type of movie. I may be the only person that liked that movie, but I thought she was great. I've never seen the movie My Sister's Keeper, but that's not a comedy either and she was able to be the mom in that and I think it got pretty good reviews if memory serves me. She was also in that action movie with Tom Cruise a few years ago that my mom liked (I...
