Yep... that was just about as bad as I thought it was. Bye! -Shannon Okay but seriously... this show is kind of a big problem that I think we have right now. And maybe it's partially because I saw an episode where the men judged the women... but I don't really think it's going to get better or different... Most of the women weren't like real working class women... they had kind of unique jobs... and I don't mean to insult them at all... but there aren't really many teachers or doctors or anything... and those women don't get to the top rounds... and I don't want to insult these women for their jobs. I know that doctors probably don't have time for these silly dating shows and Life Coaches and Surf Instructors probably have more time to do these things- and it probably helps them more whereas a teacher or someone might get in trouble for being too racy during a season or something. And they have things like a swimsuit competition... I googl...

Alright I've been meaning to check out some of TBS's comedies but I wasn't sure if there was a way to catch up on them or not. There is! You can watch this show and probably others on demand if you get TBS and you can watch it from their website- so that is easy and I watched this On Demand! And I realize that I spoil the end of this... so I'm just going to say that I loved this show and I would recommend you check it out and then come back to read the rest of this... I think I'm going to do another review on the characters because I loved them so much too... it's just a really good show that's a very funny dark comedy. I don't necessarily know if there's tons of suspense in this... but the characters do kind of make it! After seeing Alia Shawkat in Arrested Development Season 5 I really wanted to see more of her and see a show that she actually starred in... and she was great in it. This role was perfect for her because it wasn't an ordinary...

Okay... I have to say after watching this episode I didn't quite know what to say about it in a review... and I just kind of stopped reviewing each episode on this blog... and I thought "ehhh I've got a few months prescheduled... I'll write it later." But I didn't... And I thought I would re-watch it before writing this today... and I tried re-watching it and I just didn't want to. It's one of the more sad episodes of Black Mirror...and kind of one of the more realistic ones... so I feel like that makes it harder to watch. So I don't really remember much of the episode... but I remember the basis of it. A comedian has this character that's a cartoon that makes some political commentary and he goes after this one politician and ends up gaining a lot of popularity. I believe this politician had some sort of scandal... but he's been in office for so long he was still really popular although slightly corrupt... and this woman runs against...

First off I'd like to leave  this  link with an analysis of the episode from Harry's Moving Castle... He does great videos analyzing each episode... and he discussed some themes that I didn't initially realize when watching this- like the Social Media Addiction of Domhnall  Gleeson's Character Ash- and I probably won't talk about because this isn't what I got from the episode... so I don't want to include it... but it is something important and I really liked his way of explaining it. Secondly- After watching this and The Entire History of You...this was when I needed a break from the show. I don't know why these episodes specifically... they aren't the darkest episodes of the series... but in a way they kind of are... and this one specifically I thought was the most unsettling of all the episodes... so it was just kind of hard to watch. I don't really know why. I think maybe it was this combined with The Entire History Of You... I don't ...

So NBC's been killing it with their shows lately... and I have to say... I think Good Girls is my favorite... but I just can't stop thinking about Rise! Here are some things I love about it! Josh Radner's Acting Abilities Finally Shine!  I'm a fan of How I Met Your Mother... and I'm one of the rare people that actually really did like Ted Mosby as a character... and Josh Radner is talented... but despite being the main character of How I Met Your Mother... he kind of faded into the backround with the very over the top comedic performances of all the other characters. Radnor kept it grounded and I think that's a hard thing to do with all of those other characters. That being said... it's hard to tell whether or not he's the best actor... that's the only thing I've seen him in and... he was okay but I always thought he was trying to be more of a director. Okay... so this episode is a little bit more what I've come to expect from Black Mirror I guess... so had I watched the episodes in order I think this would maybe make more sense to me than The National Anthem... which I reviewed last week. This is a complete dystopia in a really real and kind of beautiful way... I just kind of liked how they showed everything. So this episode kind of just puts us in the world with little explanation... to me it seemed like a world that was obsessed with fitness and looks. It showed people in this confined space with no windows or anything to really see or do except these giant screens that everyone is forced to watch at all times. I think they get "merits" which is their form of currency by riding an exercise bike and they mostly use merits for food or to skip over advertisements... which actually costs them more than their food. They also don't really interact with anyone... most of their emotions are seen through Avatars similar ...

Alllright! Hope everyone's having a nice weekend and you're ready for a nice Black Mirror Review of a nice episode... not to dark... actually a pretty cute ending!  So this episode seems to take place in a parallel universe... not much is explained- but the whole world seems to only focus around dating. No one really has a job or hobbies or friends or anything... its just this device that arranges people to find their "Ultimate match." Each date starts out at a restaurant... where the food is already ordered for you and the date is already picked out... and then whatever else you decide to do or not to do is kind of up to you... but it is designed to find your ultimate match so you can live happily ever after or whatnot. It always claims to be "99.8% effective."  So the device is referred to as "Coach" and it has an expiration date with each couple and you're supposed to check it together to see how long you'll be together... It coul...

So I was excited for this special... I know they initially intended for it to be a Holiday TV Special... they then put it before Coco, but it was pulled from Coco because it is definitely NOT a short. It's 20 minutes without commercials... so on TV it's a full 30 minute special. If you like Frozen and you like the music of Frozen- you're going to love this special. The music isn't identical to the music of the movie... but they have songs like "The First Christmas in Forever" and it sounds very similar to the song "For The First Time In Forever." But for this special the gates are obviously opened and Elsa and Anna are singing together... so it's got a nice sister-y Christmas feel. I also just think Elsa is a really good queen. She invited everyone to the castle to spend the holidays there... that's really nice! Elsa 2020 amiright??? lol. It took me a while to like Olaf... but I think he's really funny in this special. I was really excited for this show. The concept just seemed really unique to me and I was hoping they would be able to capture it in a really good way that was funny and heartfelt and I wanted the 3 storylines to be different- but to still connect nicely... and this was really perfect for that. So this show goes through the life of Alex Riley at 3 crucial points in his life. The Past, which shows Alex as a kid at a new school that is very nervous to start out. He invents things and he's a huge basketball fan... but for the Bulls, and he moved to California with his new Stepdad and Step Brother- who were both lakers fans... so he's nervous and he just wants to fit in. The Present shows 40 year old Alex who just found his wife cheating on him... gets a divorce and split custody of his daughter. He lives in someone's garage and his ex is planning on getting married and moving far away with their daughter. Alex wants to prove to his ex that he can do something to keep his d...

I'm a little bit nit picky about tv shows and movies... and I get it... writing is hard. It isn't easy to write a tv show or movie... but I know a little something about it... so I can kind of nit pick the little bit that I watched of the Paula Patton show on ABC "Somewhere Between." I don't watch the show enough to say "Ohhh this is a bad show." I honestly can't tell you what it's about... it sounds to me like they're trying to be Stranger Things- but I believe this was filmed before the popularity of Stranger Things and there's no noticeable supernatural element to it... So that's just kind of what I'm picking up on. Alright... I didn't really know what I was in for with this show until I watched the "last week on somewhere between" part. One of the male characters was being grabbed by a detective and he turned around and said "Woah, Woah Woah. Why are your hands on my person." ...? That's a common ...

So I saw this in my suggested videos to watch after I finished Girlboss and I thought "Ehhh... why not!" So I watched it... and it's an okay show. Not every storyline really got me... I couldn't relate to most of them actually but some were kind of good and relatable and some were a little boring to me... this could be different for everyone... but it's just sort of one of those things... I kind of think this is a hidden gem of Netflix. I'm going to link  this blog post  that criticizes the show for playing into rape culture... I see this bloggers point of view... I think that was maybe my initial response to the particular scenes mentioned in the episode... but I don't know that I really agree about those scenes in particular... Maybe this is something that needs more talking about... but I don't think I'm the person to discuss it here. I don't know where to begin that discussion... but it's a valid point and something I wish the filmma...

So I was really really excited when I heard that there was going to be a show about a dog on tv... and this did not disappoint... it really was about a dog and his relationship with his human... and I only managed to cry through like half of it. This show is actually making history- and hopefully if it does well we'll see more like it... it is the first network television show to debut at the Sundance Film Festival... which seems crazy to me! Sundance has been around for quite a while... and Network tv is so popular that you would just think at some point their paths would have crossed... but apparently they haven't until now... and it is a wonderful thing that they have. Because this show did debut at a film festival... it does sort of have more of a film vibe than a television vibe. I feel wayyy more emotionally connected to the characters. A lot of times they will sort of use something other than a human in a tv show so that you can connect to the characters better on so...

So I was really excited for this new series... mostly because I didn't know it was going to be out quite this soon... and I think they did a really good job with it! I don't know if they're planning on continuing with Season 2... I'd be happy if they did... but at the same time it would also make a great one-season show. It wrapped up really nicely... but there is more story to tell I'm sure and it's a story that is very cleverly told... so I would like to see more shows like this. The show is about Sophia Amoruso, who is the founder of the online shop NastyGal, the writer of Girlboss and the host of the Girlboss podcast... she's also executive producer of the show and it is very loosely based of her life. It says that right at the beginning of the show that it's a real loose interpretation of what happened... so it was probably less entertaining... but still entertaining enough for Sophia to write enough because she's a girl boss and she did that ...

This is NBC's newest comedy and I was pretty excited about it... it looked funny... but it also looked like maybe it could have been bad... but everyone in it and everyone involved in making it is super funny... so I thought it would be something fun to review. Basic plot of the movie: A grown woman has a close relationship with her helicopter mom... but she wants to get away from her kind of sort of- but her mom gets an internship at the news studio that she works at. And her mom is played by the amazing Andrea Martin. So I think the cast of this show is really funny. Andrea Martin, Briga Heelan, John Michael Higgins, Nicole Ritchie, Adam Campbell and Horatio Sanz... all super super funny! John Michael Higgins particularly in kind of a starring role here... He really the star of the show... but he has a much more prominent part than he usually has... and he is so good in that role. He's just great! And is really perfect for this role. I love Andrea Martin in My Big Fat G...

TV Land has been coming up with more and more interesting original series. I haven’t seen Younger yet… but that looks interesting. From what I’ve seen of Throwing Shade, it is AMAZING… and most recently they have this show created by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone.  Now this one is a little bit different… I like it a lot, but whereas something like Trial and Error I can say “If you love Arrested Development and Parks and Rec, you’ll love this!” Or with Imaginary Mary… which I don’t necessarily think I mentioned in the review… but I would compare it to Lizzie McGuire or Trophy Wife… and Elfman’s character is almost reminiscent of Dharma… so if you liked Dharma, then you might like this too.  Nobodies I would recommend if you are a writer, a filmmaker… or if you just liked things before they got popular. I don’t necessarily think everyone that loved Identity Theif of The Boss would love this… but if you like behind the scenes types of shows… you might like this. It re...

This show looked like it could be either a really great show, or a really horrible show… but I thought it would be promising because it was created by Adam Goldberg and the creator of The Goldbergs… so I thought it might be really good.  Fortunately… It was really good! Mary, the imaginary friend is super cute and funny. Jenna Elfman is really relatable and she does a great job playing this character. Stephen Schnieder, who plays the single father that she’s dating is super hot… the kids are funny and cute too… it’s just a good cast overall and well thought out.  Jenna Elfman’s character Alice is flawed… but in a relatable way. She knows the guy she’s dating has 3 kids and she continues to get serious with him… but she freaks out when his kids come over and he suggests meeting them. When she actually does meet them- no spoilers- but they don’t exactly get along that well. The kids are more difficult than she was expecting… and she’s also kind of difficult… so it made sense. So I've been excited about this show since I first heard about it... It looks like Arrested Development but with Murder... and I would say there's a lot of Parks and Rec in it as well... which I wasn't expecting... So this Pilot had everything that I love. Funny cast... nonstop jokes... very very dark humor... and the #1 thing on my loves list of shows: A SMALL RURAL TOWN! I never really realized how important the small town vibe was to me... but I'm writing something now and I've been watching Friends and Crazy Ex Girlfriend... and there's a big difference between the Manhattan setting of Friends vs West Covina, California- which is of corse the setting of Crazy Ex Girlfriend.... but yeah. Each setting is fitting for each show... and really this small, rural town in South Carolina is PERFECT for this murder mystery comedy. I did a blog on this a little while ago when I first saw the trailer... it looked ridiculous... and it was... but I didn't actually hate it. It wasn't a perfect show. There was a lot that didn't make sense and the way that they kind of explained away the plot holes wasn't great... but overall... it held my attention for about 2 hours. I don't think that this is going to last as a tv show honestly- which does upset me. If it was a mini movie or a mini series... it'd be okay... but they're trying to do multiple seasons of this and it just didn't work. I was really excited about this show... and it isn't that I don't like it... it's funny... but its not super funny. It falls a little flat for me. It's a cute show and I think it's going to get better and better... but it's not my favorite show right now. Last season I was totally unimpressed with How To Get Away With Murder... and this year it has just been amazing me! Since the very first episode of the season too... it was just sooo good. And I thought that they were really going to bait and switch us. Having us all pumped all season long for one of the students that we've been following all series died and then they pick someone like Simon or Oliver... or even Nate to die... but no.
