Scribbles About TV: Time After Time Review

I did a blog on this a little while ago when I first saw the trailer... it looked ridiculous... and it was... but I didn't actually hate it.

It wasn't a perfect show. There was a lot that didn't make sense and the way that they kind of explained away the plot holes wasn't great... but overall... it held my attention for about 2 hours. I don't think that this is going to last as a tv show honestly- which does upset me. If it was a mini movie or a mini series... it'd be okay... but they're trying to do multiple seasons of this and it just didn't work.

The writing of this show wasn't great... it was very well paced though- which I thought was kind of brilliant from the writers end. I think that if you like "Cat and Mouse" types of mysteries... this is something that would probably interest you. It was well paced and it was always like the HG Wells character was 2 seconds too late... which idk. They did that in a suspenseful way... it was easy to tell when someone was in real danger or not... but I think they did it pretty well.

The acting was also quite good. The guys on the show are super super hot... so that may have been what was holding my interest... but the guys on How To Get Away With Murder are just as hot and that doesn't always hold my interest... well okay... maybe Wes and beardy Frank are hotter than the male leads on this show but still. Anyway they were all selling it. Jane was maybe the one I liked the least... she didn't seem upset enough that that girl got killed or that she had just almost been murdered by Jack The Ripper... she was even asked if it was okay if she stayed at Vanessa's place... which was weird because why would she want to stay alone when she was just almost killed and her killer is still on the loose. But other than that- which may have just been bad writing- it was alright.

And when I say "The writing is bad..." I have a ton of respect for the writers on this because the concept is HUGE. They're dealing with 2 famous historical figures... and time travel... that is a lot to do and I really think they did a fine job for such a crazy concept. And its something the average person would pick up on that.... "Ohh it's convenient that Jack the Ripper just happens to be friends with someone that time travels" or "really? shouldn't she be a little more shaken after she was just killed." I know how tv shows are written so I'm pretty critical and nitpicky... but even my mom and a Facebook friend commented that it was frustrating.

The 2 things where I mentioned before where they kind of explaining away plot holes in a way... I didn't think really worked were that 1) They couldn't kill John (Jack the Ripper) because it would mess up the space time continuum. 2) They couldn't call the cops because the cops wouldn't believe them.  The space time continuum thing makes sense... the way Wells got to that conclusion did not make sense... and they didn't really have to explain the whole situation to the cops they could just say "Hey, this guy is trying to kill me." It's not hard.

Also did you know Vanessa is related to HG Wells? Because they literally explained it 3 times during the episode like it was a new discovery. That is a HUGE problem on the writers. It was like they weren't confident that the audience would get it so they put it in 3 times. It felt very man-splainy. The show was created by a man... but a woman did co-write the second episode... and that's a thing I think would have been more interesting. If a woman had creative control of the story it would be different. Women are actually still afraid of men- probably largely because of Jack The Ripper. There are laws still in effect today in some states to protect women from killers like Jack The Ripper and The Boston Strangler. My sister went to Fordham and there were no girls dorms on the bottom floor because of the Boston Strangler. I went to school in New Jersey and I don't think they even had dorms on the first floor of most buildings because of that probably... strangely... in Boston girls were allowed to be on the bottom dorm.... so that's odd. But anyway... I don't think Jane would be so nonchalant after almost getting killed by Jack The Ripper. She would be more upset.

Also... what was it with Jane using her Ex Boyfriend's dirty old razor for HG Wells to shave his face. And why did she have extra deodorant and toothbrushes? Were the deodorant and toothbrush just hers that she didn't get around to using yet... or did she just have guys over a lot and decided she might as well make a B&B out of it... lol. I'm kidding... but really?

Also- just saw this is based off of a 1979 movie of the same name starring Malcom McDowell as HG Wells... didn't realize this was actually adapted from something... that makes more sense now!

I'm going to keep on watching this... I'm hoping that the movie will resurface because I really want to watch that. Overall weird show but... I'm excited for the next episode... right now on IMBD it says there are only 3 episodes... so I'm thinking if it doesn't do well next week, they'll pull the plug right away... but I liked it so far!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
