Throwback Thursday: Chicago

So this was a really pleasant surprise Throwback Thursday. I haven't seen this movie since... before I went to college... so it's been quite a while and when I watched it that time I was like "Yeah... I've seen this movie enough. I've seen the play now... it's nothing different." And now it's probably jumped the list to my Top 5 Favorite movies of all time. Maybe right behind Despicable Me... it's great!

I've seen the play Chicago for my friends graduation... and I knew this movie so well that I was really excited to see the play... and the play was soooo great... but the movie was also really great too. The play is all on stage so it doesn't have the beautiful sets of the movie and the juxtaposition between what is actually going on and the "musical inside of Roxy's head." which is something I really liked in the movie!

They really could not have gotten a better cast for this movie either. The singing in it is all amazing and the acting is great. Catherine Zeta Jones, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, John C Reiley, Christine Baranski and Taye Diggs were all really great! I would have liked to see Taye Diggs as Billy Flynn though... I liked Richard Gere in the role and I liked Taye Diggs as the narrator... I think Taye Diggs would be a good Billy Flynn.

Billy Flynn was a character that I've been paying more attention to the last couple of times I saw it because when I saw Chicago live... Billy Flynn was probably the best part... the Velma Kelly was good too... but I think Billy Flynn was the highlight and that just makes me like him in the movie a little bit more every time I watch it. It's just funny that I think he really admires Roxy and Velma and wants to help them out... but he really just cares about money and being the best lawyer.

It's also just kind of a fun time to see this trial... with all the fake news going on it's fun to see what they did when the news was actually fake. There was no fact checking for these murder trials... no real investigations and analysis... just whether or not people believed the story the killer was telling.

Also this time I thought "the Hunyak's" story was really sad. She was the only innocent one in the bunch... but she was the one that hanged... it was sad and again... it's still relevant today with immigration issues. It was heartbreaking, but I'm sure it's happened a lot where innocent people get hanged and guilty people don't.

I also never noticed Dominic West was the man in the beginning that Roxy killed... he's known from The Wire and The Affair... so kind of funny that he's known for an affair in this.

Mr. Celophane is another thing I've been noticing a lot more... it's the male characters that are kind of gaining my attention the more I watch it because there really aren't many male characters... I didn't like this song the first time I saw it... I don't like clowns, I didn't really like the dancing... didn't know the words to the song... but I have to say I like it a lot now. It's very compelling to see Amos get ready to perform and he puts a lot of work into it and no one is watching or paying attention. It shows that his ambitions aren't unlike Roxy's... but unfortunately no one notices him... it's interesting.

I also kind of like that Roxy never considered a Double Act until she needed a job... and Velma was so good at a solo act at the beginning of the movie/play... it's all very interesting. Lots of little things that are really cool.

I'm probably going to watch this wayyy more often because 1) I love musicals more than I have 2) It's just such a great movie... I always notice something new when I watch it and it never gets old for me... so I can watch it over and over again without getting bored... it's just a good movie. I know a lot of people don't think it's the best Oscar-winning movie... I think it is. It's just a lot of fun and I like it a lot!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
