Pop Culture Phenomenons: Musicals (Present Day)

So this is another sort of different post for me and it's something I'd kind of like to delve into a little more... but I'm going to take one particular pop culture phenomenon- whether it's having it's moment now or if it already had its moment... I feel like a bunch of things become popular at the same time that are kind of connected in some way or another... whether they're loosely related or closely related... I just wanted to kind of mention it... I'll do as much research as I can on the subjects and I'll kind of explain a little more about them. Hamilton (in Production since 2013)  So while the first official performance of the Broadway Musical Hamilton which we all know and love today... but before that there was a workshop and an off broadway run... some of these songs are a little different... there are versions in the Hamilton Mixtape of the original songs... the production you can see today is absolutely perfect the way it is... but I do lo...

Oscars 2017 Recap

We've got a lot to go over tonight... let's start wit the big one... Mahershala Ali is the first Muslim man or woman to win an acting Oscar! I know this probably isn't what you were thinking of as "The Big Thing" but frankly... this is what people should be talking about! What an amazing achievement. I haven't actually seen any of the movies... but from reviews I've read and clips I've seen... he really makes the movie. A lot of the times an AMAZING supporting actor or actress can make the difference between winning Best Picture or not winning best picture. And Mahershala isn't really known to be an a-lister or anything... he's been in lots of movies- Boggs in The Hunger Games and he was on House of Cards and Luke Cage... it's still not a name I think has been heard before... and now I'm sure his name will be well known and he'll go on to do a lot more stuff! Good job Mahershala! Great accomplishment. Okay so now the big moment ...

Throwback Thursday: Lilo and Stitch

I've been wanting to do reviews of older movies from when I was a kid or a teenager and wondering if they're any good now... and I'm happy to say this one is actually wayyy better than when I originally saw it when it came out! Lilo and Stitch are 2 of my favorite disney characters probably. Stitch is one of the cutest, and he kind of reminds me of the minions. And Lilo is really cute and when I met her in Disney I had braided pigtails and Lilo grabbed them and it was really funny. I thought that was fun. And I know a lot of people in the Disney community hate the Stitch ride... honestly it scared me a little because I was still a bit traumatized from when it was Alien Encounter... but I liked the gift shop! And I like that Lilo and Stitch are at Disney now, I've only been to Disney once since the movie came out. They could maybe do something a little better... but it makes sense to replace Alien Encounter with Stitch. The major reason why I loved this movie so much...

Chart Chat: 12.26.16

10) Nocturnal Animals- This movie looks interesting to me because it is directed by Tom Ford, who is a famous fashion designer and has a line of very luxurious makeup. Plus I like Thrillers a lot and this is a thriller. So I'm happy this is doing so well! 9) Doctor Strange- Again... haven't seen this at all yet. There is some controversy over the casting of Tilda Swinton... google that to see how you feel... I'm not opposed to the director having a different vision of the character... but I also don't like how he defended his choice and it is a big problem. I'm interested in the character Doctor Strange, so I think I will try to watch this one when it is available to watch. I've heard its visually stunning... and I love me some Cumberbatch. So the more I've been like "nah I'm not interested" the more I'm like "you know what... I gotta see this one!" 8) Arrival- This also sounds like a very interesting movie. I would probably w...

Blogmas Day 3: Scribbles About Movies: Moana Review

Allright... I guess this isn't particularly Christmasy... but it is out during the holidays and it would be fun to see around Christmas with family in town and everything and if you're looking for gift ideas, the Moana toys would be really good ones because this movie was great and I think it's a really fun one to see. It took a little bit long to kinda get started. We knew the basic plot line of why Moana has to leave the Island and find Maui from the very beginning, it pretty much opens with that part in the trailer where Moana's grandmother is telling the story of Maui and Moana is a little kid and she's so excited to see him. And then we see that the ocean choses Moana when she is young and the scene is one of the most beautifully animated scenes in any movie ever... and I would highly encourage seeing this movie because its just so beautiful! See it in theaters if you can because it just makes you feel like you're in Hawaii. It is really really a beauti...

Chart Chat! 11/28/16

Alright... I'm a little surprised at this week's chart chat... but let's just jump into it! I'm also super tired... so I feel like this will be an abridged top 10! 10) The Edge of Seventeen I want to see this... but I'll probably wait till its on TV. It looks good... but there are so many movies out right now and this doesn't seem like one that you need to see in theaters the way I think Fantastic Beasts or even Moana is. 9) Hacksaw Ridge - Sounds good... but too serious compared to the kids movies at the top of my "To See" list. Lol. 8) Almost Christmas- Probably not a bad movie... probably won't see it because again... it looks sad!Just realized I don't need an Again here... I wrote this list backwards... so that's why some of my phrasing doesn't make much sense. Again I'm getting ready for a nap. 7) Bad Santa 2- I never saw the original Bad Santa... I probably should someday but its so sad its not really on the top of my ...

A Surplus of Hamilton

So I don't think I did the before bed blog yesterday... ugh. Anyway I wanted to talk about when something that you like just kind of becomes readily available in like a surplus. This is especially true right now if you happen to love Hamilton. Don't get me wrong, Hamilton is Amazing... but unless you saw the play... there wasn't all that much to go with it for a while. I still LOVE it and listen to it or reference it in some way every single day pretty much...but there wasn't a whole lot to it until recently. First off is the Leslie Odom, Jr. Christmas cd Simply Christmas. I'm so excited about this. How can anyone not be excited about an Aaron Burr Christmas album! He is a really amazing singer and I just think its awesome that he's singing Christmas songs. That comes out this week! (and if you get it from his website, you can get a signed copy!) And there is the Moana soundtrack... which I'm also really excited about! You can pre-order it on apple m...
