Why Advertising is Important

I think it was yesterday I mentioned that there was an inclusivity lately... especially with advertising... and it just makes me think ads have come such a long way. When I was in my Women's Studies class, we actually looked at older advertisements that were sexist... there were a lot of racist ones... and it was upsetting... but I think we've gotten further and are actually awesomely inclusive in their advertisements. Take Covergirl for example. They have quite a diverse group of people represented in their ads. Ellen Degeneres, Queen Latifa and Sofia Vegara are all over 35, which is cool. Queen Latifah and Ellen are Lesbians... and it was sort of a stereotype when Ellen was starting that lesbians weren't really "Covergirls." I think that's kind of cool.
