So I was thinking about something in the shower... as you do... and... I realized that there are 2 directors that I really love... and I feel like they're kind of polarizing... where some people love them, some people hate them... and they're often Critically acclaimed but never really award winning. And I feel like when I say I like these two directors people are like "Well, of corse you do!" And I don't think they're pretentious per se... but my mom would think the movies are weird... so that's how I'm defining "Pretentious" in this instance... so I hope these directors aren't thinking that I'm calling them pretentious... I also don't think that's a bad thing... but anyway I love them and here they are! 1) Baz Luhrmann- Luhrmann is known for the movies Moulin Rouge!, 1996's Romeo+ Juliet, and The Great Gatsby. I always kind of laugh when I see these lists because my Top 100 Movies list would be VERY different... but I'm not going to talk about how Harold and Kumar got snubbed again. Sooo I've been home from school and lately either when I'm home alone and I'm not working and have time to watch something or late at night after work, I've been watching movies that I've always wanted to watch but haven't gotten around too for whatever reason. But I'm A Cheerleader- I had seen the end of this movie so many times, but I've never seen the full thing. From what I've seen it was funny and interesting and since I like Natasha Lyonne so much in OITNB I thought it would be fun to see her in a much different role. This was a funny movie and it was cute, but it was kind of boring at parts. It's a little cheesy, they kind of skip plot with a bunch of montages- which I don't like. But overall it's cute. As a straight girl that just wanted to see a kind of cutesy movie, it's not like its totally a "skip it" movie... but Idk if I'd devote all of my time to watching it. Okay so this is the movie I saw first of all my Spring Break movies, but it isn't in theaters everywhere which is why I decided to post this review last. I've always liked Wes Anderson and even though I had only seen one other movie of his (the royal tenenbaums) I love looking at stills of his movies. This is slightly a film-nerd thing but there is this tumblr page that shows stills of movies and breaks down each of the colors into a color wheel, it's so cool. Anyway, they did Wes Anderson week once and I really loved looking at all the stills of that week. Wes Anderson films are always very bright and colorful, and usually there is some sort of theme with the colors and it's just cool. I admire his style and his signature of directing really. I think that no matter what the subject matter or the reviews are of a Wes Anderson film it is usually worth watching just because it's so visually stunning.
