Scribbles About Movies: My Reviews of Movies on BBC's "The 21st Century's 100 Greatest Films"

I always kind of laugh when I see these lists because my Top 100 Movies list would be VERY different... but I'm not going to talk about how Harold and Kumar got snubbed again. Instead I'm just going to review the movies I've seen on this list... there aren't that many, but you'll see why... lol. I'm sorry if you like any of these movies, or if you were involved in them. I'm sure Jim Carey and Kate Winslet are reading this now like "Hey, I'm super offended," but I don't care. Its not anything against them, I just think watching Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless mind is essentially torture.

Anyway... on with the list!

96. Finding Nemo- This ranks surprisingly low on this list and its probably wayyy higher on my list. You'll probably notice that my favorite movies on this list are Pixar movies because Pixar Movies are pretty much my favorite. Monster's Inc is my favorite and it is not on the list. Yeah I love this movie, I'll watch it whenever its on. It makes me sad, but its kind of a movie I watch when I'm sad because it does get better. I also liked this much better than Finding Dory... which was good but it wasn't my favorite. This is my 3rd favorite Pixar movie I think... so yeah. Like I said, it would be much higher on my list... but this is good!

93. Ratatouille- Again another Pixar movie... I'm shocked this ranks higher than Finding Nemo! This isn't one of my favorite Pixar movies... but I think it would still make my Top 100 movies list. This is one that I will watch whenever it is on TV... and its on TV a lot. Its such a pretty movie and its just a really good one. I love all the characters in it. One of my favorite giffs on Facebook is the one with Anton Ego... I think thats the food critic... and he just says "I Love It" its just funny and fun. Great movie. Makes me want to cook... but still this is pretty high on the list when there are so many better pixar movies.

83. A.I Artificial Intelligence- This is an honorable mention because I don't actually remember it and I'm not sure I actually saw it... I think I have it confused with Bicentennial Man. But Bicentennial Man was okay... not great... so I'm guessing this wouldn't make my list. Lol.

79. Almost Famous- I need to watch this again. This was a great movie, but I watched it on a plane from London to New Jersey... so that isn't the ideal viewing experience for a movie... but I thought it was great and I watched it on a plane... so that is the true judge of this being a good movie.

74. Spring Breakers- How the heck did this get on the list? I liked this movie, but I know this was a terrible movie. It would not rank my top 100.

68. The Royal Tenenbaums- The other movies I've liked on this list are probably all Wes Anderson. Wes Anderson is a director you either love or hate in my opinion, I really like him. I think his movies are funny and real and beautiful. This is probably my favorite of all that I've seen... Maybe The Grand Budapest Hotel... not sure, but this is a really good one. I think if you like Arrested Development you might appreciate this movie. That's why I watched it, there are a lot of similarities. Also all of Wes Andersons movies are absolutely beautiful so if you just see the stills and all the colors... I think you'll like them.

53. Moulin Rouge!- Another director I really like is Baz Lerman and I think he did a great job with this... but I think this is my least favorite of the ones that he has done. I really liked The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet. He also does beautiful movies with modern soundtracks that don't quite fit with the time period, but they fit with the story... and I think he's trying to say these stories are timeless so you can have a modern song in with them. So yeah! This might be on my top 100 but I don't remember it that well!

51. Inception- I get this movie... I have no idea why people like it. Its just kind of boring... and long. And it feels twice as long as it is... I like Chris Nolan's batman movies... but this is like mehhhhhh.

44. 12 Years a Slave- This is a great movie. Its a good story in general and all the actors in it are just so well done. Lupita Nyongo really makes this movie. Everyone else is really good in it too, the only part I didn't like was Brad Pitt. I didn't think his part was bad, it was very crucial to the end of the movie... I just thought he was a bit over the top with it. Great movie though!

41. Inside Out- This would probably be in my Top 25. I love this movie, I think it is my second favorite Pixar movie... which is saying a lot. Its very cute, very well done and very sad. But overall happy at the end because the family got through it together and Joy and Sadness pulled through! I think this would be my top 10.

38. City Of God- I didn't see this full movie... but I had a film class my first year of college and this was my favorite movie we watched for that class.

35. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon- I saw this with my grandparents as a kid not knowing that it was subtitled... and I remembered I liked it even though it was subtitled. A lot of the plot was probably over my head and I probably shouldn't have seen it that young... but I remember really liking it and I paid attention even though I had to read it.

33. The Dark Knight- This would probably be on my list... maybe more in the 40s range. This movie is the only movie I've ever seen in Imax (other than maybe a liberty science center movie?) I was really looking forward to this movie because I wanted to know the backstory of the joker... and this movie didn't exactly explain it... but I still think it was a great movie. And I think its an important movie for our generation to because it set a standard for Comic Book movies. I don't think the Marvel movies would be as good as they are without this movie. I guess Iron Man was released the same year as this movie... maybe a little earlier... but still I think this really made them all up their game for the most part.

This series in general is better than most of the other comic book movies in my opinion because I think its more realistic. A lot of comic book movies are more science fiction... which isn't bad, but I appreciate that this series isn't. I think some of the new ones can get over the top. Like the Crocodile guy in Suicide Squad... no one needs that. Its not like its Rocket Raccoon. But this was just a good detective comic movie, which is what the Batman movies should be. No science fiction, nothing weird... just a bunch of scary criminals!

29. Wall-E- As I've said... I love Pixar movies. I haven't seen this one in a while though, this might be the one I watched the least just because it is a mostly silent film and you really need to be sitting down and paying attention to it and I like to have movies like Ratatouille on in the background... so I'm not quite sure how this would rank on my list... but I think 29 is a good number for it. Its a great movie and it really makes you feel a lot of things. And I could see this happening in our future if we aren't careful... so that's scary... but I still love the movie.

27. The Social Network- This movie isn't bad. Its probably really good... I got the DVD from a Blockbuster that was going out of business... which was stupid because there's almost no sound on the DVD and that sucks. And I don't think its one I'd really watch again and again... but it does tell a real story in a very unapologetic way. The funny thing is, it really does portray Zuckerberg as a bad person and it didn't really do any damage to him. People are still on Facebook and this was a pretty well received movie that did make a lot of money. I think at the time it was one of the biggest blockbusters to be nominated for Best Picture the year it was nominated. So clearly people have seen the movie... but it still doesn't change how we connect with people or businesses or anything... so that's kind of cool.

I remember there being a meme or something that said "wow I bet Michael Cera is pissed cause this is doing so well." I don't really see the similarities between Michael Cera and Jesse Eisenberg. They're both very different actors. I'm a bigger fan of Cera... but he wouldn't have been a good Mark Zuckerberg.

Probably wouldn't make my list...but maybe I need to give this another chance.

22. Lost in Translation- I saw this movie when I was a kid and I didn't like it... but I think I should watch it again. I like Sophia Coppola, so I think I'd probably like it if I were to watch it again. I thought it would be a comedy... remember when actual comedies got nominated for Oscars? I think that only really happened with Sideways... but still.

21. The Grand Budapest Hotel- Again, great movie. It was beautiful and good and I just like it. I don't think it needs to be this high on the list... but I loved the movie. This was an actual comedy too... it was pretty funny even though everyone died for the most part.

6. Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind- This is my least favorite movie of all time. And I've seen some bad movies. I listen to the podcast How Did This Get Made... which is all about awful movies. And some of the movies on that are truly terrible... the worst that I've seen on that is probably LOL or Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor... or maybe the TMNT movie they did... but those are far more enjoyable to watch than this one. I just don't see why people like this. People explain to me "but its so deep." Is it really? Its just one I can't get on board with. Everyone in the movie was really good... and I like the concept of it... I just didn't like watching it. I kind of liked the Kirsten Dunst storyline... but other than that this movie is just torture.

I guess maybe it says something about the movie that as much as I hate the movie and can't understand why people like it, I remember a little bit about it... whereas there are some completely average movies that I've seen like Drillbit Taylor that I know I've seen and I know I liked... but I don't remember any of the movie and it hasn't even been out 10 years yet and I remember this movie which I hate... but yeah. Its supposed to make you feel something, and it accomplished that... I just hated it.

Even though I didn't see the top 5... I figured thats an important thing... so I'll show that too. If you want to read the full list here it is.

5) Boyhood
4) Spirited Away
3) There Will Be Blood
2) In The Mood For Love
1) Mullholland Drive

Boyhood and Spirited Away I would watch. I find it funny that on the full list... there aren't many Best Picture Oscar Winners... not that I noticed at least. No Million Dollar Baby, Birdman, Chicago, Crash... I'm sure there are others. I remember the Oscars that Birdman and Boyhood were nominated and people thought it would be Boyhood, but Birdman won. I thought Birdman was really good. I think I could watch Michael Keaton in anything, and surprised that wasn't on the list.

Keep in mind though... this is the BBC list, and I think Boyhood might have won the British oscars. I thought that was interesting though. Worth mentioning.

Hope this was a fun read. #sorrynotsorry if you liked Eternal Sunshine... I just think there are better ways to spend your time than watching that movie. Lol.

Byeee!

Scribbles About TV: Jane The Virgin Finale Review (SPOILERS)

So.... Can we talk about all the twists because there were a lot! I didn't even see all of them coming! Alrighty we start out in typical Jane The Virgin Mode with Jane's choice between Raphael and Michael... I'd be okay with either but I think I'm team Michael. Jane has a weird moment with Raphael and thinks she's better off without him and just having him be the father of her child. She's also starting to have some feelings for Michael again. Then she almost has the baby on the bus and some woman helps her and gets the bus driver to take her to the hospital. Rogellio and Xo are in Vegas and they get drunk and can't remember what happens, but they make it just in time to see Jane deliver a baby boy. I knew it would be a boy! Lets pause on that a little and go to Michael and his ex partner/friend with benefits who comes back says she has a lead on Sin Rostro, gives him an address where the plastic surgeon is and by the time Michael gets there, he's de

Disney Store Closing Haul

So if you read my post from yesterday- you know that I love The Disney Store, but it is unfortunately closing. I did pick up some things from the store that I thought I'd share with you guys! I did get a couple of t shirts. One is a Star Wars shirt, which is technically a men's shirt but I thought it looked really cool and I don't like that Disney doesn't carry the same things for men and for women. For the most part they look unisex to me and a lot of their men's stuff has characters I like better. Like the star wars shirt for women was grey with pink lettering and had no pictures, but the mens shirt had a really cool metallic silver logo on black clothing with pictures of all the new characters and Luke inside of the letters... much cooler! So I got that! The other shirt I got is really funny and it has Sleeping Beauty on it and it says "I Woke Up Like This." Which I really liked! Super cute and funny and my niece likes it when I wear shirts with c

Scribbles About Life: 3.10.16

Soooo... I don't really want to post about my day... but I don't really want to post anything else either. I started writing something about female characters in movies and TV... but I just didn't like what I was writing and... idk... I was a blog writing machine this week and now I feel defeated. I wrote a ton on Monday and Tuesday and now I just don't feel like doing a post today... but I want to write still... So I'll talk about things that I guess are on my mind lately... Idk. So I got this Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor... and for some reason... I'm addicted to the way that it smells. Idk why, it smells like cherry medicine... but I also sort of like it. Its more cherry than medicine... and I can't smell it on my lips... but Idk. I keep smelling it in the tube. I got some cute stuff from American Eagle yesterday too! I got a dress and a romper... I do not own any Rompers... except this one... but it looked good on me and it didn't make me look f
