So I was really really excited when I heard that there was going to be a show about a dog on tv... and this did not disappoint... it really was about a dog and his relationship with his human... and I only managed to cry through like half of it.
This show is actually making history- and hopefully if it does well we'll see more like it... it is the first network television show to debut at the Sundance Film Festival... which seems crazy to me! Sundance has been around for quite a while... and Network tv is so popular that you would just think at some point their paths would have crossed... but apparently they haven't until now... and it is a wonderful thing that they have.
Because this show did debut at a film festival... it does sort of have more of a film vibe than a television vibe. I feel wayyy more emotionally connected to the characters. A lot of times they will sort of use something other than a human in a tv show so that you can connect to the characters better on some level. Bojack Horseman, many Pixar movies, The Muppets tv show... they all have more dramatic elements and because we see them as something other than human- yet acting human like we can relate to them... this show did that in a great way. All of Martin's (the dog's) problems were very human and very real... but because he's a dog we kind of have a different understanding to it which makes us more emotionally invested... maybe? Idk there was a great interview with the creator of Bojack Horseman that talked about it... you can find it somewhere lol.
And we get to see humans through a dogs eyes... and dogs are AMAZING and they have nothing but love for humans and nothing but anger and hatred for cats... lol. It's just very sweet for this dog to talk about this woman that isn't that different than anyone else and hear how amazing she is and how much he loves her... it's just the kind of stuff that melts my heart.
And I have a dog... and I know that's the type of stuff he thinks too- lol. He doesn't like being left alone- every morning he wakes me up by scratching on my door and he's so excited when I come out to join him. My sister had a baby recently and he's very gentle with her and he kind of understands her... but he'll still get jealous. He just sits right on my lap if my mom or my sister is holding her like "I'm still your baby right?" And he scratches for me to pet him if I'm paying to much attention to her... and it's very gentle and just very funny... you can definitely see that he loves her... but he doesn't want to be forgotten either and I love that so much... it's just funny.
Okay... I got off on a tangent there that has nothing to do with the show at all... but if you like hearing stories like that or if you see the human side in your pets... this show is definitely for you. It also shows very real problems that his owner is going through and how Martin is helping her with that... even when he is begin bad or being a pain. It's just very sweet and if you own a dog... you've probably been there too.
So obviously this gets the Shannon Seal of Approval... I think you should definitely check it out and you might cry through at least half of it... I might cry through the whole thing next time. Not sure. Lol.
