Alright: Here's an exciting review of the highly anticipated tv show/ Big Bang Theory Prequel Young Sheldon. I thought it looked like a really fun show, a nice family version of The Big Bang Theory. It's set in the 80s, so that's always fun... and it just looked like a good show.
I really liked all of the actors on the show. The kid that played Sheldon was spot on... he's definitely the only other Sheldon besides Jim Parsons. I thought the actress playing his mom was really good... she was funny, but also very sweet and I just thought she did a really good job playing a frustrated mom that loves her genius child... even though he's strange. The siblings were both funny... the dad on the show was good... it was pretty brilliantly cast. My biggest complaint is that Sheldon always talks about Meemaw... and they don't have Meemaw on the show.
And although this is a family show... I could see this maybe not being my favorite show for my kids to watch if I was a kid. The tone is completely different than the tone of The Big Bang Theory... but Sheldon is very much the same with his very snide comments and his general rudeness. I know when kids hear something funny on TV, they'll repeat it and that could lead to them being kind of mean. Sheldon told his brother "think, Monkey, think." and he said his female teacher had a mustache... he asked his mom when his testicles would descend... its all funny stuff and it's innocent enough... but if I repeated the "Think, monkey, think" thing as a kid I know my mom would have been upset. So I don't know that it is as family friendly as something like The Middle or Fresh Off The Boat. It's still definitely something the whole family can watch... but I can kind of see moms not liking the show for the mean spirited comments in an otherwise very, very sweet show.
I also just like the house... it looks like a regular house. Sheldon's mom uses the same Corningwear serving dishes for sides at the dinner table that I grew up with... it's just kind of nice to have such a familiar looking house and a familiar family. I'm from New Jersey, grew up in the 90s, didn't really go to church, and my only sister is 10 years older than me... so it's not like my family is anything like Sheldon's family... but it still feels familiar and I can relate and I just like that. This was on right before the premiere of Kevin Can Wait- which doesn't feel like a realistic look at a family to me the way the Cooper family does. Just my opinion... but I think if you watch both, chances are good you'll relate to the Cooper's a little bit better.
Some of the highlights of the show: I loved when Sheldon wanted to wear a bowtie to school because Professor Proton wears a bowtie. I liked when Sheldon said he would go to church even though he didn't believe in God because "He believed in Mom." That was sweet... and I liked the end where Sheldon held his father's hand. It was very sweet for the most part... and the snide and sassy comments didn't really take away from that.
I would definitely like to watch this again... I don't necessarily know if I will just because it is moving to Thursday nights and there is a lot that I watch on Thursday... so I'll figure a way to watch this and Life in Pieces...but every show I like is on Thursday... so that kind of stinks lol.
I have to say though: I was a lot more impressed with Me, Myself and I... I will probably have a review on that next Tuesday but definitely check that one out because that one is a unique show and I just thought they did a great job with it.

So the pilot brings us through the first day of high school for Sheldon- at a very young age... I think they said he was supposed to be in the 5th grade. We see his mom, who is played by the real life daughter of Sheldon's Big Bang Theory mom, his twin sister, and his football playing father and older brother.
So for the most part... a lot of what they showed on the commercials was exactly what was in the episode. And that took away from the show a little bit... but if you saw the commercials- you know what you're getting yourself into and it was worth watching the whole episode anyway... if you missed it and you have no way of watching it for whatever reason (I had a hard time finding The Good Place because it wasn't free on demand for me) I would just wait- I don't think it comes back until November... but I would just kind of recommend seeing the second episode on and you won't really miss anything.
