Scribbles About TV: This Is Us- After the Superbowl

So I did MANY recaps of This is Us last year... but this year I just kind of didn't watch it. It's a great show and everything... but they just kind of milked that story with Jack's death WAYYYYY too long and it just made me a little bit impatient and... we already 90% knew last year... I'm not sure why it was such a huge reveal... but it was still a good episode nonetheless.

This was a really great "after the super bowl" show because anyone could really enjoy it. I haven't seen the show this season and I understood and enjoyed all of it... I think if it was your first time watching you could still enjoy it. If you're a fan and loyal viewer- obviously you would probably be satisfied with getting some answers as to what happened for Jack's Death. So I think that this was a really good episode for after the super bowl.

And This is Us usually follows a few different substories... This one we had the flashback to Jack's Death... then we had how Kate was coping with it with her fiance, how Randall and his family were coping and how Kevin and Rebecca were coping.

I'll start with Kevin and Rebecca because that's the easiest to describe I think... and it was just the shortest overall. Kevin tried to ignore the anniversary of his father's death because it made him too sad and he liked being the happy one of the family. This year he was with his mother, Rebecca and Rebecca told him that every year she makes Jack's favorite lasagna and eats it by herself... and that every year Jack sends her some sort of laugh. The first year she turned on the radio and it was "You Can Call Me Al" which is a song they both loved and had been played in previous episodes... I think in the pilot even... and when she changed the station it was on the second station too. And just little things like that that made Kate think of him... and I thought that was really sweet. Kevin ended up visiting his dad's grave and having a talk with him which was "just what he needed" and when he asked Kate if she got her laugh she said "no, he'll probably send me 2 next year knowing your father." Kevin then admitted that he didn't know if he was at the right tree where they buried his dad... which I think was Kate's laugh.

Kate was watching a video tape of an original song that she wrote and sung that was taped the same day of the fire... and her dad ended up saving that tape from the fire. But when she was watching it, the VCR "ate" the tape and it seemed to be ruined. Luckily her fiance Toby knew a guy who he was pretty sure could fix it. Kate felt bad for herself because she blames herself for Jack's death. Jack went back in the house because she wanted to make sure the dog was saved and he grabbed photo albums and things because in Kate's mind "he didn't want to disappoint her" And it was just really sad... but at the end of the episode I think Kate dealt with her grief in a more healthy way.

Randall was getting ready for a super bowl party and trying to celebrate Jack's life because the Superbowl was his favorite day and he had to celebrate his dad on his favorite day. Randall's wife accidentally steps on the new family pet lizard (it might have been a different form of reptile... idk what though.) and it dies... causing Randal to make a funeral for the lizard and a speech for him... which ends up getting a little intense and realizes that he actually is sad this day and that it is okay to be sad. He ends up having a nice talk with his older daughter Tess, who likes that the family recently started fostering children and he says that he'll be there for Tess when she's older and has an important job. He'll be there to have dinner in her office... and we see Tess ends up working to help foster children and is in fact meeting with her father to have dinner... which in my mind has debunked the rumor that they may kill off Randall sometime in another season. (I didn't actually hear about that rumor until after I saw this episode... but still.) I thought that was a really sweet little moment in the episode.

So... that is everything. I really thought this was a great episode. It was sad but it was heartfelt and just a great episode overall... I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars- I just think the series strung this story on a little too long.

I hope you guys like this review!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...
