So... I've been kind of re-decorating my room and just kind of re-vamping it all together... re-arranging stuff and its been hard and time consuming, but ultimately its been fun and its worth it.
My room is very small and I have a lot of stuff... I'm kind of a "collector/hoarder" lol. There's just a lot of stuff and a little bit of room... once I started my Funko Pop collection I kind of knew that I needed to re arrange some things and re-do my room a little bit... these are kind of the steps I went for that.
1) Decide where to move things around- Basically... this whole thing started because I had too many shoes near my door in my room and I didn't like that... so I wanted to have a sort of storage place for my everyday shoes and put that near my door that way I can just grab them and leave easily. I had a little storage cube in mind for what I wanted to use and then I thought "well if I move that over there I can move something else in the corner where that goes." And I started to kind of go from there, I made lists of all the possible places where I could put everything and then I started measuring things with a tape measure making sure that I could fit certain things in certain corners and stuff... and it just made it super easier.
2) Decide your "Problem Areas"- If theres an area you don't think you're utilizing right or you think it doesn't look great, you could have more space if you put it elsewhere, you might use it a little better if you put it elsewhere... you might want to do that. I had a big plastic drawer filled with t-shirts that I put in my closet and it would come apart a lot and fall down... and sometimes it was just like "well I don't have time to put this back together now." And then my room would just be messy for days... so that wasn't an ideal place for it... but since the Shoe thing made me change the corner it was in, I decided to put it in an empty corner... and I even took the t shirts out of it because I had some beauty drawers that were getting a little overwhelming... so I switched that to those drawers, and put my t shirts in a smaller plastic drawer place... and voila! Much better!
3) Clear Junk and Junk Drawers- There is really not much of a need for Junk Drawers or junk... I get that there are some things you want to keep and you can't really get rid of but they're just taking up a lot of space in drawers... and its not quite ideal... A lot of it is probably stuff you can get rid of. There are lots of things that I kept because the package was pretty and I was like "meh... I can let go of that." or just little stupid things that I don't really need. A lot of it I got rid of... some of it I have to admit I'm keeping because it isn't really "junk." Just some stuff that you can't really get rid of... these are things I don't go through a ton because I never go in them... and its just like "meh. Don't need that might as well get rid of some stuff." I'm kind of putting stuff in boxes and keeping it elsewhere... but drawers are for storage and I need that storage for storing things other than junk! So that's where I'm at with that.
4) Make sure you're getting the most out of your storage spaces- So this kind of goes with what I said about the junk drawers because some of my junk drawers are bigger than non junk drawers... make sure that you're using your storage to its full capacity. I have one shelf that is bigger than all of my other shelves and I was using it mostly for books and decorations... I have more DVDs in my room than I have books... so that was sort of a problem. I eventually put my dvds on the shelf and pretty much all of my dvds fit on it... but at the same time... I have a lot of minion toys and funko pops and things like that... so I'm not sure how long this will last... just cause thats a good decoration shelf... but either way... for books it wasn't idea and it is ideal for other things.
5) Keep a list of how many things you have to do and kind of have a timeline for things- If you have things to do, keep a list of what you have to do and when you can do it. Like right now I have like 8 things to do... some big some small... and if I know I'm busy that day I'll wait till I'm not busy to do a certain thing. If you work Monday-Friday... maybe take a few hours on the weekend to do a couple of things. I'm done with all the main moving around of things, so now I just have some small things to do that will probably only take a few hours at the most. Other than actually cleaning my room up... which I'll probably just do ASAP... but that is more or less one easy way to kind of clean things up.
I've been off campus at college for over a year now and its just still hard to kind of deal with having all of my stuff in one place. I like my minion toys and my decor... but I don't have as much room as I used to to put everything and my room is pretty small and the way I like my furniture arranged doesn't allow me a ton of room for stuff... so right now its a little cluttered and I'm trying to keep it decorated nicely but also utilizing it so that I can use my stuff and keep what I need and get rid of what I don't.
I hope this was helpful for people going through similar situations! Let me know if you like this sort of thing or if these tips were helpful.
Also when I'm a little more done with decorating, maybe I'll do like a tour little by little so that you can see how I've arranged things and why I like them that way!
