Scribbles About TV: Supernatural Season 1 pt 1

So, I've been Watching Arrow lately and loving it and I thought why not watch another CW show. I also have been watching The X Files again and loving it and thought why not watch another paranormal type of show. Enter Supernatural. This show has 10 seasons already... so I'm late to the game... but thats okay. I thought I'd break it down for you guys.

Pilot
I remember watching this when it aired I think. I'm pretty sure this is the only episode I watched... this was probably before DVR so I think I missed the first little bit, didn't pay attention to much else and just watched a little bit said "ohhh that was good" and then completely forgot about it. Now that I watch it I'm amazed at how well it held up. This was 10 years ago, yet the technology is all good, the premise is really good and even the music and fashion doesn't seem that dated. It makes sense and it holds up pretty well I think. I also like that it was a "monster of the week" in X Files terms. I'm not sure if they're all monster of the week episodes or if theres a major arc in anything like The Black Oil or something... but this gave us mostly a monster of the week story and a little bit of info on the bigger picture which is how Sam and Dean's mother died and framed in the end with how Sam's girlfriend dies. Really brilliantly done. David Nutter directed it, he is one of the best television directors... he's known for The X Files, I think he did Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose which is the best episode... and it was overall a great pilot.

It also referenced the X Files... which someone at Hot Topic told me that they reference it from time to time... so I think I'm going to take note of the references here too. Good episode! It made me want to watch more, but it is 1:16... and I want to go to sleep soon... I think lol.

Wendigo
Didn't love this one... idk it just wasn't super exciting. Nothing really happened and I didn't think the monster was that cool. It just seemed like something that's been done already and this probably wasn't the best way its been done... not my favorite. Not terrible. But I could see watching this and then not wanting to continue with the show. It was a pretty big let down after the pilot not going to lie. I also liked in the pilot that Sam and Dean knew what they were looking for. They had a feeling it was a Lady in White, they explain what a Lady in White is and they look for it... in this they just kind of say "well maybe its this thing or this thing" and then they find out it isn't and they don't explain it all that well. Its a big relief that in this show they know what they're looking for... but they don't totally go into as much detail explaining it as Mulder does for Scully on The X Files... I'm going to compare this to The X Files a lot... so get ready Lol.

Dead In The Water
Much better than the last one. Good character development episode for Dean, I feel like the Pilot mainly focused on Sam... but this one shifted a little attention to dean at least and he's a really interesting character I think. All the guest actors were good too and I like when theres some sort of paranormal thing near the water. Raises the steaks a little and it just works really well.

Phantom Traveler
This one was really great!!! I liked the idea of a demon possessing passengers on planes, I think thats cool. I liked that Dean is afraid of flying, I thought his reaction was realistic and funny. I liked the way that Sam saved the plane from crashing and the Cristo thing... this is a great episode. I've been sort of just watching one every now and then whenever I had time... but now I'm a little hooked! Really liked this one.

No X Files references, but they made reference to Will and Grace by mentioning a Karen Walker. Nice!

Bloody Mary
This one was really scary! I thought it was going to be cheesy at first because it seemed so dated at the very beginning. I thought it was like an old timey Twilight Zone episode... but it was still really good and actually scared me... a lot! It was a great well done episode... but yeah its scary lol.

Skin
Not quite as good as the last two... but I still thought it was pretty cool! I liked that the shapeshifter shed the skin after using it and I thought it was cool that he shifted into Sam and the girl. I felt like the stakes were really high in this one. I also like that we see Sam is still trying to keep his old life and he realizes that he can't. Its really sad. It also kind of reminded me of Izombie the way that the shifter was accessing Dean's thoughts. I felt like they kind of cut that a little short. Dean really was jealous of his brother and did have some things he was upset about and they kind of ignored that. Dean is a deep character sort of playing cold and distant... but you can tell those feelings of resentment are there and I thought they could have gone more into that.

Hook Man
Fun episode! I thought the twist was good, I thought the villain was really scary and overall I just really liked the episode! Plus its like Sam is back in college doing the things he never did in school and Dean never went to school so he's having fun with it... good episode.

Bugs
Alrighty we get some payoff from the hints dropped to us in Skin about the nature of Sam and Dean's relationship, which I liked a lot. This was directed by Kim Manners, a director of the X Files that passed away a few years ago. And it felt very X-Filesy. I thought it might they did a lot of bug episodes. Sam and Dean were pretty funny in this episode. It was a little boring to me at parts, but overall good episode. This one kind of had a twist too... a lot of them don't have any twists, but they've been getting better with that now! I liked it, it was creepy.

Home
This is the best episode so far. It really told us a lot about Sam's abilities and we even got to see their father! And their mother! I love the actress that played Missouri, I know I've seen her in something else. I don't know what... and it was just cool that something else was going on in the house and this other family with this really REALLY attractive woman had something going on... it was just a good episode all in all.

One weird thing I've noticed: There's always a hot mom and usually there isn't a man in the picture... and usually they thank Dean more than Sam... It seems like Dean probably just bangs a bunch of these hot young moms. Lol. I really think thats his type and the type that likes him. Can totally see that. It seemed a little like they cut some corners in this episode with the plot... but it wasn't anything too bad. The Fire Monster was creepy but it looked really dated now. They don't usually show too many monsters on this show, so nothing really looks that dated and its all still scary... this one I thought was the most dated of everything... but still not too over the top. Definitely a different look for a poltergeist...

Poltergeist things freak me out more than most things and I wanted to get to bed after this... so that might not happen. Lol.

Asylum
This one was good... I feel like its getting a little repetitive though... but still good episode. I thought it was creepy. Better than American Horror Story: Asylum... which I didn't really like that much. It reminded me a little bit of the episode of The X Files How The Ghosts Stole Christmas... which was a great episode. It also made me think of the movie Grave Encounters, which also reminded me of this one floor of a building at my college that I went through last year and it was weird. I was weirded out by a lot of it... lol. Other than that good episode. And I liked the girl Kat... she was really cool.

Scarecrow
That one was scary! This show is really dark and just awesome! The Cigarette Smoking Man aka William B Davis is in this episode, which is awesome! He seems to not know what to do with his hands when he's not smoking! Lol. I was a little tired and I fell asleep at some parts where Sam was talking to that blonde girl telling her he couldn't go to California... but for the most part I was awake and this was just a good, creepy, fun episode that was a good way to end this first half of the season. Really scary ending! Can't wait to see where that goes!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
