This is one of those movies I was a little disappointed in just because I feel like if I were to direct a comedy... I would do a little bit of a better job. That might just be me being arrogant, but the director of this movie was the same director of the Notebook, and I don't think he's a bad director... I just think this was his first crack at a comedy and it turned out a little weird. That being said, I did think this movie was a lot of fun, especially if you see it with your girlfriends.
This movie was really a cute story and it was quite funny... But a lot of it was off just a tad. First off a lot of the lines were ADR added after the movie was off and it was quite obvious. Like there were full conversations between characters where it was quite obvious the actors were not in the same room at the same time. This was something a lot of people complained about with the fourth season of Arrested Development, so I know a lot of people would probably be bothered by this movie. I think Nikki Minaj was never in the same room with any of the other cast and it was a little too obvious and that bothered me a smidge.
Another thing that bothered me just a little bit that I feel like I should mention is Cameron Diaz's make up in the film... This would not have bothered me so much if they didn't show a preview of Sex Tape right before it. Cameron Diaz is in my opinion one of the most gorgeous women in Hollywood and I'm a huge fan. I think that because they had her playing someone that was younger than she is in real life they tried to do her make up differently and it just did not do her justice at all. It kind of made her look a bit older than she is and... Idk. I think she's always been so beautiful and I love seeing her in any movie at all and I just didn't think this make up was working for her. That being said Leslie Mann's make up always looked flawless all throughout the movie. She is also gorgeous and looks amazing all the time and always has, but she looked so beautiful in this movie. I have women crushes on all 3 of these women... So that helps.
And it was a little hard to get past the fact that the cheating husband in the movie was Jaime Lannister... I was waiting for one of the women to cut off his hand! Lol.
And one thing I really did not like was there wasn't a whole lot of actual dialogue. There was this incredible friendship between the women, but they showed their bonding mostly over music and montages. I also feel like I missed a huge chunk of the movie towards the end and it just got a little weird. They were skipping parts and... They probably shouldn't have. Idk it's just a bit off.
But I thought it had kind of a good girl power message. I thought they made Kate Upton's character a little bit of a dumb blonde character... Although she was still smart there were moments when I thought "do they really need to sexuality her this much? Can't we have 3 really brainy gorgeous women? But yeah. I think the power of woman friendships was the overlying theme of this movie and that is a nice message that should be seen in more films.
So yeah... That's about it. I know this movie is a few weeks old, but I still thought I'd review it. I'd recommend watching it with a friend. If I were watching this on my own I don't think I'd like it as much, but again I'm a comedy snob, so Im not the best judge. Good movie, good message, but not the best.
