Before you roll your eyes and think "Ohhh no... another 20-something telling me who to vote for." Calm down... I'm not going to say who to vote for... but here's why you should vote!
If I were writing this blog as a pamphlet wayyy back when America was trying to gain independence people would be like "Yeah, duh we should vote... but for some reason we're still being ruled by King George... so how do we do that!" And then if I wrote it after the revolution they'd be like "Well duh you should vote! A bunch of my friends died so that you could vote... ohhh wait, you're a woman. Nevermind. Get your husband to vote for you." And then if I wrote during the suffragette movement people would be like "Yes of corse you should vote! We've been fighting for years for women to vote! You should!"
Point is... a bunch of people have fought, and even died for me to vote. I don't feel like its right for me to just be like "Nah... they're lives don't matter. I don't like either candidate. I'm not voting." Which is kind of true... I think both presidential candidates have major flaws and quite frankly... not sure I trust either one of them! But last year a lot of people said "If Romney doesn't win I'm moving out of the United States." You know where those people are now? America! Just sayin...
Another thing is I remember always being really excited to vote in the elections. Especially because my birthday is in October I was so excited for the elections, which wasn't a presidential election... it was the one where Chris Christie became a thing... I just missed the cutoff. For the record... I wasn't going to vote for Chris Christie, I was voting for Chris Daggett who made this wonderful commercial! So if you don't like Christie, its not my fault! Lol.
And here is my next point... there's other stuff happening besides the presidential election and local politics is more of something that will affect you on an actual day-to-day basis. Here's where I'll tell my vote on something. There's a bill to put casinos in North Jersey. If you've ever been to Atlantic City... you can probably tell why I'm voting "No" on this one. I love casinos, but they were put in to lower our taxes and now a lot are going out of business... so it really isn't helping us at all and I don't think that adding more casinos is really going to help the problem... or work at all to be honest. There are so many casinos that really aren't that far from North Jersey that it doesn't make much sense. I love going to Atlantic City... I love casinos... but if you have a broken table, you don't buy a broken chair... you know? It just doesn't make much sense to me.
I don't really think you should vote for someone for being the lesser of two evils... last election I voted for someone I didn't totally believe in... its 4 years later now... and I'm like "Maybe both of those guys would make better presidents than these guys." So... in 4 years we could have someone worse. You never really know what's going to happen. I'd normally say if you don't like the republican or democrat, look at the independent parties... but the Libertarian Candidate and the Green Party Candidate have their fair shares of flaws as well. I don't think its throwing your vote away to vote for either of those candidates either... there are a lot of people that I think would agree with their principles but aren't voting at all because they think voting for one of them would be throwing their vote away... but if enough people are voting for a different candidate... that's good! So... look them up at least if you are thinking of not voting...
So I think its fine if you aren't voting for a presidential candidate... but you have a voice, you have a choice... you should vote for something! In a perfect world, Kiefer Sutherland would be president! But... that world doesn't look too good either... but Kiefer Sutherland looks good, so here's a picture of Kiefer Sutherland and some other men that play president in TV and Movies that I think are more attractive than the current candidates.
Alright... what else was I saying. Ohhh yeah, my last point... don't lose friends because of who you are voting for vs. who they are voting for. I mean there are different reasons people are voting for people... that I can see unfriending them for. If someone says something offensive... that's one thing and you should unfriend someone for that... but as long as everyone is respectful... don't lose a friend. If you shut yourself off to another person's opinion... you are kind of doing yourself a disservice. Don't close yourself off to another way of thinking... it may just reaffirm your own beliefs.
Honestly... I haven't watched the debates... I read about things and watch the news a lot... This clip kind of sums up why I'm not going to watch them. Neither candidate is actually answering any questions anyway... so yeah. Its a little sad.
But that's it. Bummer note to end on if you watched the video... but... Pick your poison! Here's to the next 4 years!
