Scribbles about Books: Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

After reading Gone Girl, I became a little bit obsessed with Gillian Flynn, so I had to get her other two books and read them right away also. I thought that they would probably be just as good as Gone Girl... but probably a little less messed up. Boy was I wrong about that.

This is a really good book. Really good. I love the characters and worlds Gillian Flynn creates... I'd have to say Gone Girl was quite an easy read and this is not at all an easy book to read. It is incredibly uncomfortable at times and the ending is very unsettling. I wanted to let my mom borrow it when I finished... but I don't want my mom reading this! It would probably make her cry. My mom is pretty much the nicest person ever, I'm not just saying that because she's my mom I'm saying it because she actually is. This book is not something I think she could read and it isn't for the faint of heart. It's really quite dark.

Where do I even begin with this... It starts out kind of like a regular mystery novel... and more and more is revealed about the town and the characters. A reporter named Camille Preaker is a Chicago journalist that is originally from a small town called Wind Gap in Missouri. Wind Gap had a missing girl and a girl that was murdered recently and the newspaper wanted Camille to go back and report it. We also learn that Camille has recently been to a Psychiatric Hospital for cutting words into every inch of her body. (slight spoiler there, but I mean that is something people should know before reading it.)

I don't want to spoil the ending... but I'll say I kind of guessed who "did it" but there are still twists till the very last chapter. It's a lot like Gone Girl, you could read a part of the end and still have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in the end. This is very much like that.

A few things I like about Gillian Flynn books: I like when the town is pretty much a character in the novel. And it takes place in a similar place as Gone Girl, small southern town thats a product of the recession. The main character is a writer and she's not unlike Nick Dunne. Also pay attention to the names. After finishing it I realized theres one very fitting name (much like how Nick Dunne was Done!) and there are a few names I have to google... but its all very fitting.

This was also Gillian Flynn's first Novel... damnnnn! She's good!

Alrighty so that is it. If you've read it let me know what you think! The next book I'm going to read is Horns by Joe Hill. This is going to be made into a movie soon and Daniel Radcliffe is going to be in it. It looked like another good horror mystery that seemed perfect for Halloween! Joe Hill also happens to be Stephen King's son... so horror runs in the family I suppose!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
