Scribbles About Movies: Despicable Me 3

I feel like it's almost unfair for me to give reviews of any movie with the Minions in it. I LOVE minions. The Minion memes aren't really my favorite thing... I can't really understand people that don't like minions- I can understand people not liking the Despicable Me movies or the Minions movie... but I know that I could never give a movie with minions in it a bad review. It's just something you're not going to hear from me.

That being said... I also did not think I would ever like a movie as much as the original Despicable Me... and I really think this movie was just as good if not better. And I think... it's probably the best from Illumination Entertainment. I feel like with the first Despicable Me they were a new company so as amazing as that movie was... it wasn't everything it could be... this movie I thought was getting to a Pixar level. I know that's a very high comparison... but I really think Illumination is getting on that level and this movie is sort of the start of it.

I don't even know where to start with this movie... there's a lot of great stuff going on here... I guess I'll start with the Villain: Bad Brett or Bad Bratt. He's an 80s child actor that played a kid villain on TV and then when he grew up... the show got cancelled and Brett never really handled that well... so he became his TV character. He's all grown up, he has a bald spot... but he still wears all 80s clothes, listens to 80s music. His weapons are very 80s and it's very "80s kids." I thought that was a lot of fun. He's maybe one of my favorite villains ever... I thought he was really funny. I was happy that he was voiced by Trey Parker. I feel like part of the problem with Despicable Me 2 was Benjamin Bratt. He did a great job... but he isn't really a voice actor and I thought they could have gone with someone that was known for voice acting. Trey Parker is known for mostly adult animated movies... but he did a great job in this as the villain. I feel like in Despicable Me 2 they were trying to get big names to do the movie- even if they weren't necessarily voice actors. Idk... it was just nice for them to go back to people that are so great as animated characters.

I also loved seeing Lucy as a mom. It kind of brought back the magic of the first Despicable Me with Gru falling in love with these girls and him being such an amazing dad. The Minions Movie was definitely lacking that sort of sweet aspect of the first 2 movies. As much as I love the Minions... Gru and the Girls are still my favorite part of Despicable Me. And it was fun to see Lucy added to the mix now too. Plus Lucy is such a great character. I think it's cute that she and Gru dress the opposite... and I just like Lucy.

And I liked Dru. I thought the "Evil Twin" thing was kind of funny... even though they're both kind of the evil twins lol. And I thought Dru was kind of stupid and that was funny... it was funny to see the minions as villains again and seeing them in Jail... that was really funny. And the Singing competition... it was just great!

And let's talk a little bit about the Easter Eggs because that was kind of cool. I didn't know that Illumination was working on a How The Grinch Stole Christmas Cartoon... or maybe just a Grinch cartoon, not sure if it's specifically How The Grinch Stole Christmas... but Margot was wearing a T shirt with the Grinch on it... and I looked it up and they are working on The Grinch! So that's cool! The singing competition was also called Sing! Which is an Illumination Entertainment movie- the last one released in fact. And Idk if they were easter eggs per se... but references to the first movie. The Fluffy Unicorn was in it... idk if it was in the 2nd movie... but it was nice to see such meaning in the Fluffy Unicorn. Silas Ramsbottom was back, Dr. Nefario was sort of back, Gru's mom was back... I think there were more easter eggs I didn't catch. I was hoping Vector or someone was in it.

All in all... fantastic movie. It had a lot going on and it was really cute. I didn't even mention the Uni-goat... who I love! It was just really cute!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
