So my sister got me this little do-dad for my birthday and I figured it's a great christmas gift, so why not do a review on it!
My sister has had some trouble losing her fit bits before, so she got this for me specifically because it has a big watchband on it. I find this really convenient too. I like having a clock and being able to check the date as well as just having my steps right at my fingertips. I think that you can buy bands to go with other designs of the fitbit... but this one is just an all in one thing that is easy to use... and works really well.
This holds a charge better than I expected it too... but probably not as well as some of the other fit bits. I charge this like every 3 days. It has a heart rate monitor on it and little lights that always show up cause those help read your heart rate. It shows up in the dark as well... so keep that in mind. You can turn off the heart rate monitor... but I'm always afraid I'm going to have a heart attack or something if I do that. I like knowing if my heart rate is a little too high... so I like the heart rate monitor for that. I used to faint a lot when I was a teenager, I feel like this would have helped me realize I need to cool down a little bit or sit down before fainting if I noticed my heart rate was too fast.
You have to set this up before using it... but its really easy to set up. It connects to your computer and there's an app and its easy enough to set up. The instructions are easy, its nothing that you'll really have trouble with... so if you were thinking of getting this for someone that isn't good with computers, they'll still be able to figure it out so easily.
The app is good... there's a thing where you can write down how many calories you eat during the day... that's slightly inaccurate. Unless you're eating things like Lean Cuisine, or fast food or things like that all day... it doesn't really know how many calories you're eating. Its an easy way to keep track of it, you could find out about how many calories are in something, you can look on the box or something. They have the average if you put in something like "lasagna" they'll just show what most restaurants use. Its easy enough... but it isn't the most accurate.
They also have a thing where you can keep track of how much water you drink... which is a great feature! On the app I mean. I drink from a hydroflask, which is about 24 ounces... so I just put 24 ounces of water and it does that. If you drink from a cup, it shows the size of different cups so you can kind of tell how much it is.
The things that the fitbit measures are steps taken, heart rate, miles walked, calories burned and stairs climbed. And the app also has active minutes, you can track your exercise, set a weight goal and see how many pounds you need to lose before that, see how long you slept and it'll even show when you were restless and when you were awake during your sleep... and then it shows calories eaten, calories left to eat, and how much water you drink. And you can earn badges and things like that. A little green smiley will appear when you reach a goal.
So yeah. I think if you want to loose weight or be healthy, this is a fun little way to measure that. I like it! Its satisfying to reach a goal... and its easy to use. So this is a good gadget to get if you know someone that's into fitness or being healthy and want to get them something to help with that for christmas. It's also good to get for yourself if you just want to get moving a little more or get into a routine or something. There are tons of different fit bits to choose from. I like the HR one... but there are different ones. And I think they go on sale at Kohls on black friday... so if you were thinking of getting one, its a good time.
