Making a Card: Caligraphy and whatnot.

Hey guys! So my mom really wanted to make a card for my grandmother's for Mother's Day because she didn't trust getting cards from the card store right now. I have other card making posts on this blog... I'll link those right here and here. This is similar to the one that I made for my mom's birthday... but I used actual calligraphy pens this time instead of the crayolagraphy markers and I feel like I now understand calligraphy.

this is the first one I did and you can probably see this has some ink smudges on it... so this one went to my mom.

So what I noticed was that WAYYY too much ink was coming out of my pen when I was writing the letters and I think that was because I was writing like how I would normally write. In the calligraphy book that I have they show steps to making each letters and that's how you want to make them. You need to do short strokes and not have the pen touch the paper for too long because that's how you get the thinner writing that looks better and the ink won't run everywhere. So that was my main lesson of this.

I had cardstock that I had bought from AC Moore a long time ago... I think it was around my anniversary because I bought it in my boyfriends favorite color specifically because I wanted to make him a card with it. They sometimes sell these other places too- I used sketch paper with the card I made for my mom's birthday a few years ago... that's very thin- but it is helpful in doing this. I wrote the caligraphy part on sketch paper and then I glued it to the card stock with a glue stick.

I also used glitter paper and I cut out butterfly wings because I know my grandmothers both like butterflies. It was a little bit hard to cut out good shapes but I did the best that I can. I don't really think it looks that bad... I feel like I've seen hallmark cards that look similar and they're not just cut and pasted onto something.

I'm probably going to make another one soon because it's my mom's birthday. If I do I'll probably write a post on that also. My mom likes snoopy a lot and I can draw snoopy so I'll probably draw snoopy for her and do some other calligraphy with it.

Over all this is really fun. I wrote something really nice in my mom's card and I thought I'd leave it to my mom to write something in both of my grandmother's cards... and that's everything! Hope you guys like it- let me know if you're making cards now!

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
