So I've talked about this book a bit before- I just saw it on Target's website and I liked the cover and I read the description and it sounded really interesting... and it was just a good read.
So this is sort of a thriller book- but I wouldn't say it's a thriller over all. It's a great story and all of the details in it are really good... but it isn't really an "Edge of your seat" Type of thriller the way I would say a lot of them are. That doesn't really make this any worse- I just think... this should be in it's own genre. It's really unique compared to other books I've read. When I read the ending I was like "What? Wait a minute?" And then I had to reread the first chapter again to make sure I knew what I was reading. I could probably reread the whole book again and see everything that I missed because the ending really does have quite a twist.
So this is told from the point of view of Gwendolyn- a woman in a coma after her sister Estella poisoned her entire family. The family was a very big wealthy family with a lot of secrets- so... there were a lot of people that passed away because of this. Anyway Gwendolyn is trying to piece together why her sister would do this to everyone- including herself. So most of the story is told kind of as a flashback.
Other than the poisoning the 2 main stories we switch back and forth from are Estella's unhappy marriage from her now deceased abusive husband and the sister's mission to find an aunt of theirs that they believed to be dead.
While the family's secrets aren't very clear at the beginning of the story... they are apparent when they find out more about their Aunt and alongside of that we learn more of exactly what happened to Estella's husband and what happened with her marriage.
I really don't want to give ANYTHING away from this book because I would say this is a total must read just based off the "What is this" ending alone. The book was kind of a slow-burn book overall with most of the twists coming towards the end... but the payoff is really good.
Overall I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars... Highly recommend if you are into mysteries like this and if you don't really mind a lot of the excitement coming in at the end of the book.
Bye!
