I know I've been saying that I wanted to see this movie when it was on TV because I didn't quite know about the abuse claims and it looked like a show better to watch on TV than in the theaters... My friends wanted to see the movie and the Humane Society did investigate the movie and all was good. So I saw it in theaters.
It was a really great movie too! It stayed on the best storyline that was the main story the longest... and it spent a good enough time on the other lives and you could see how one of the dog's lives helped with understanding the next and it shaped him to become the dog he was at the end of the movie...
And you got to see a lot of, unfortunately, horrible things that happen both to dogs and to people from an incredibly innocent point of view. I don't want to spoil things but the dogs don't really get to choose their life... and it isn't always fun and there are a lot of bad parts. Dogs don't really have much control over what happens unfortunately. And that's why they need lots of love and to be treated well.
And really all the dogs changed their humans lives for the better. It gave Ethan a friend when he was going through the worst times of his life and he helped him remember and rediscover the best parts of his life. I don't want to give anything away... but Ethan had a rough life and Baileybaileybailey really helped him through a lot.
I do have to say though... this was a very emotionally draining movie. It is a beautiful story and the movie did a beautiful job telling it... but I was crying for most of the movie... it was a very touching movie... but man... I could not stop crying after a while because of all the dogs. I was even almost crying writing this post! Thinking about it makes me want to cry... it's very very sweet. I didn't think I would cry... I sobbed at the commercials for the movie, but I just kind of thought that I would have been a little more over it because I was exposed to it a little bit more... but I was not ready for it! Definitely not ready at all!
I loved the movie... but man... it was a tough one to watch! I would recommend checking it out... I'm probably going to look at the book next time I'm at Target also.
