So I kind of ran out of holiday specials to watch on Netflix... and I do love dogs... so I thought that this would be a fun one to watch... and it really wasn't bad... but this is kind of the bottom of the barrel as far as Netflix Holiday Specials go... and that is kind of sad.
So it starts out kinda scary. There's an icicle that melts when there is no Christmas Spirit... and Santa's actual power for the workshop depends on that Icicle... it's basically a Direct to DVD version of Elf with dogs... so that's kind of what I was expecting... but its still pretty much a rip off... but it was kind of a scary scene to see Santa and Santa Paws in there saying there's no hope for Christmas except for Puppy Paws.
Then we meet Puppy Paws... and we realize there really isn't much hope for Christmas at all... Puppy Paws just messes everything up to have fun and it's kind of funny... but he kind of ruins Christmas because of it. And then his dad, Santa Paws yells at him... and its just kind of sad. Santa Paws isn't really as fun as you would think a talking Santa Claus dog is. And Santa isn't Jolly either... they're very serious "Down To Business" Santa's... which I don't think is as fun.
There's also the side story of the Air Buddies and whatever they're doing, and this little dog that gets caught by the dogcatcher, Mr. Cruge... Mr. Cruge... he's Scrooge- its A Christmas Carol story happening simultaneously.
And it just takes a really long time for Puppy Paws to get to the Air Buddies and when he does there's like a full section where he just tries to imitate the Air Buddies and then somehow gets them all in trouble... it just takes a good chunk of the movie for things to connect.
And when they do connect... the payoff is kind of... ehhh. I mean it ends happily, Puppy Paws and the Buddies save Christmas, Tiny- the dog that was captured- ends up with a sick boy and Mr. Cruge becomes friends with the family, the Air Buddies all go home and enjoy Christmas with their families.... and Santa Paws is proud of his son, Puppy Paws. So it's a nice ending... but it is kind of less entertaining for a grown up fully watching it with her full attention... if I had it on in the background I might think it was cuter... but still sort of just a low-budget Elf... and I'd rather just watch Elf. Elf is one of my favorite movies of all time anyway.
Byeee! Hope this was helpful. It' still a cute Christmas movie, kids would especially love... but for Grown ups... its a long 80 minutes. Lol. It would especially be cute to show Christmas Eve if you're planning on getting a dog or cat for Christmas. There aren't any cats in the movie... which was weird... but it was okay.
