So... here is what I decided the best movies to watch for Christmas and when you should watch them! There are some I think are perfect to watch Early Early on and some that are better closer to Christmas... but here they are. And I'll mention which ones to just avoid at all costs... lol.
Best Early On
Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown- I've said this before and I'll say it again... this is the way to kick off the holiday season! It really reminds you of what's important and what Christmas is all about. It makes me happy to watch every time I see it too. It's just a really good movie!
Santa Claus is Coming To Town- This is another favorite of mine for the beginning of Christmas because I think its a great way to get you to really believe in Santa! It answers any questions about Santa's origins and it all makes sense! I just always love this movie and they usually play it pretty early on. Its a good one!
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer- They usually play this early on too! And who doesn't love Rudolph! This is just one I like watching early because its an essential for christmas and its just a really good movie! I just like it a lot and it holds up still.
The Year Without a Santa Claus- This makes me feel really warm and fuzzy inside. I never really got the warm/fuzzy feeling before last year... but its really a sweet movie if you watch it! I like it a lot, I love the music... its just a fun one!
The Nightmare Before Christmas- If you like watching Christmas Movies November 1st... this is for you! It's halloween its christmas... I think I like it better as a Christmas movie because of What's this... but you know this is one you can watch pretty early on.
The Holiday- This is a movie I'll watch any time of year really... but I think I'd rather see it earlier than later. It's just one that I think its kind of real, and if you're a grown up and have more grown up problems around the holidays its sort of more hopeful... and its cute!
Better Later on
A Christmas Story- I usually don't watch this until Christmas Day when they have the 24 hour marathon. It's just a good movie to watch closer to Christmas because it's all about anticipation. And you just went through all the anticipation to Christmas and now you can relate to Ralphie... also that's just when they air it and I never buy the DVD because they play it every Christmas anyway.
It's a Wonderful Life- Ideally... I think this is a Christmas Eve movie. I love this movie though... and they always air it early on and its so tempting to watch it early on... but I feel like this is the same as A Charlie Brown Christmas... but meant for later on in the season. It really does kind of help reflect on everything significant in life. Its a meaningful movie that's just very heavy but done in the best way.
Home Alone- I think Home Alone is a good one to watch later... I think last year I watched it on New Years even... it's a good movie... it isn't really my favorite... but I love Kevin, he's funny. And I just feel like watching this closer to Christmas would just be funnier. Same with Home Alone 2... I've never watched any of the other ones... but yeah. Good movie, funny movie... just one for later on I think.
Best Anytime
Elf- I've been known to watch Elf in the summer... I love Elf! It is just the funniest movie. I feel like the cartoon Elf would be good to watch Early on... but that's not my favorite. Plus the end just gets me in the most christmasy spirit. It's a really good movie and I love it.
Christmas Vacation- I love this movie... I watched it a little too much one year and I think I ended up only watching it once last year... this year I haven't watched it yet this year... but I think I will soon and I'll probably end up watching it again before Christmas. Side Note: I would love if they made an R-rated version of this with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate... I really liked their Vacation movie. Lol.
The Grinch- Either Grinch movie can be viewed anytime in my opinion. I only like watching the Jim Carey Version once or every few years to be honest... It was one of my favorite Christmas movies a long time ago... and it still is... but I just got a little bit tired of it one year and I don't think I actually watched the full movie last year... and that makes me a little sad.
Best Avoided
Frosty and Frosty Returns- I don't like either one of these movies very much... I usually do end up watching them... but they aren't my favorite. I don't know... I don't think they should really be avoided... but they aren't my favorite.
Four Christmases- No... this is one of my least favorite Christmas movies... if you're very desperate for a Christmas movie and there is nothing on... just don't watch this. It's pretty bad.
The Santa Claus and The Santa Claus 3- Now I like The Santa Claus 2... but I don't really like The Santa Claus or The Santa Claus 3... The Santa Claus is okay but kind of serious and it just isn't all that fun to me... so I don't usually watch it. And The Santa Claus 3 is just really short and nothing really happens. So I'd just say avoid them unless nothing else is on.
The Polar Express- I kind of hate this movie. If you see it in theaters, its pretty enough that it isn't bad... but if you're just watching it on TV... I'd just skip till they get to the North Pole. Lol. That's the part I usually end up watching if its on.
Deck The Halls- Weird movie... apparently everyone in the movie was at like the lowest points in their lives when they made the movie... and its just a weird result. It's a bad movie... and its pretty and Kristin Chenowith sings and stuff... but its a weird movie.
And I've never seen all of Fred Claus or Arthur Christmas... but those are probably on the list too from what I've seen of them. Probably any Christmas movie with Vince Vaughn... is that mean to say? I think he works best in a duo... not so much on his own. I guess he's opposite Paul Giamatti in that one... but yeah.
Anyway I hope this was helpful and not too mean. If any of these are your favorites, let me know!
