APPyness: Duolingo

I've been learning Italian on this app called Duolingo and I have to say it is really fun. I don't know if its very practical... this isn't like the free app version of Rosetta Stone or anything, but if you're taking Italian, or any language in High School or college, this app might be a fun way to learn a little more and maybe study a bit.

I don't think that when I finish all of the things I'll suddenly be fluent in Italian... I think maybe I'll remember the Italian that I learned in college a little bit better, but I don't know that I'll even be as good as I was in my college Italian class... but I'm still trying to do it everyday because its one of those "You learn something new every day" type of deals. This is what I happen to be learning every day.

There is one major problem with this app and that is there is no reference or anything before... its just like an instant quiz. And usually the quizzes are easy. For example it will say something like "which of these means "The Apple" and then it will have "La Mela" with a picture of an apple with it. But sometimes it will just give you a sentence and translate it with you having absolutely no context of what the word means... and its just not really that effective. I'm on the beginner level too... so I don't think that's really the right way to do something. Sure you learn it by the end of the lesson... but if there were one critique I had of this app it would be that it just throws you into things with no context and then it will mark you off for that. I don't really think that is the best way of learning it... so that's why I'm mentioning it. If they had a little thing before the quiz giving some context, that would be a little more effective than having to learn it and re-learn it.

It has a lot of languages to learn from as well... you could learn English to French, German, Spanish, Danish Turkish and many other languages. If there's anything with different letters like Chinese, you can learn if you speak those languages. So like Chinese to French, stuff like that. You get it.

So there are some drawbacks to this app... but if you just want something fun to do other than finding pokemon... this is a good one! I'm having fun using it and I've been doing it just about every day. Its also really short and simple. Its good if you're on a subway or something or waiting to do something.

So this is just my thoughts. I'm sure there will be updates and fixes to some of the issues I didn't think were that good. But yeah. Fun little hobby.

Byeeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
