So when I saw the preview of this I was like "this is going to be stupid and it's not going to last." Then when it got close to the premiere I was like "Are you crazy Shannon???? This is totally going to be your new favorite show and you're going to be obsessed!" So... thats kind of that.
I watched half of it when it started and I thought it was okay, it was definitely something I wanted to watch more of and I wanted to see where it went... it looked like it had potential.
Then I watched the whole episode and I really loved it. Its a funny satire and I love that they chose to do a musical with it. I think its brilliant because it shows the way that she is very dramatic and the last time she was truly happy was when she was at drama camp and she was singing and Josh was there.
Plus it makes sense, she didn't move just for Josh, she barely knows Josh... but he does happen to live there and she did like everything he said about West Covina. Combine questioning all your life decisions with seeing an ex boyfriend and... you're going to go a little bit crazy.
Plus it was a really funny satire about dating. It is funny that all we can really hope for in today's day and age is a text from a guy. And seeing a text with an emoji... that's like a sure sign that someone is in love with you right? I feel like I overanalyze emoji's and emoticons all the time... and its a problem but it doesn't mean nothing when someone puts an emoji or an emoticon in something. I can say that unless someone is a complete sociopath, they wouldn't send an emoticon or an emoji without actually smiling while they're texting you. And if they smile when they text you, then you make them smile, which is a whole thing! Lol. This is why I'm single.
I tuned in at the Sexy Getting Ready Song and thats when I was like "Ohhh this is like if Inside Amy Schumer wasn't a sketch show but a narrative with a plot and stuff." And thats sort of how I'd describe it. Its like a sketch show, but without sketches and just a plot. At first I didn't totally love the song. I liked it and thought it was funny but I was like "its weird. Its funny and catchy but not super catchy and they could have used this for any episode." But yeah. I thought it worked really well. Especially since we do know that the last time she was happy was when she was doing a musical, it just made sense that that's the storytelling device we're getting in this show.
So do I love this show? Yes. Would I move to West Covina for the show? Probably not, but I'm not going to stop watching it and I think if this sounds appealing to you, you should watch it too. Its a good year for satirical shows! With this, Scream Queens and The Muppets... and kind of Jane The Virgin too... there are a lot on TV now! I'm really digging it.
Also I love that the CW would give a show like this a chance. I can imagine a lot of networks passing this show and it is really creative and different and just a well done show that needs to be aired. Way to go CW! Taking a big chance and i bet its going to pay off!
