I'm gonna try to make this spoiler free, but we shall see what happens... I'll probably spoil some things, so if you haven't seen the whole season yet... you've been warned!
So I loved the way it started out. It was a little odd because it didn't take place at Lynchfield Prison and some people are complaining it didn't feel right to start without the whole gang in Lychfield, but I really liked it. Because the show is such an ensemble, a lot of times t can feel like the show isn't really about Piper and her story. I thought the way it focused on Piper and Alex and the way that Piper got in prison in the first place was important. It also showed a lot of new characters that were super super funny and it was just overall a super funny and entertaining episode. It also gave us a good insight into the relationship between Piper and Alex. Piper lies for Alex, Alex told the truth and betrayed Piper. Alex and Piper seemed to get over their original problems and they were just happy to see each other, but then they had all these new problems... it also establishes some important things for the rest of the season. Alex may be someone that Piper can never trust, and they clearly have a lot of problems in their relationship, but they still care about each other and they always will. It's interesting. It was also super suspenseful because we had no idea what was going to happen for a while.
It also made quite a transition from that episode to the next episode, which didn't feature Piper at all but was focused mainly on Taystee, a character from the first season that I loved but she didn't get enough screen time. This showed that she was sort of the second most important character of the season. I liked Taystee and I liked this epsisode, but I didn't think it completely held its own. I was wondering if they would continue the show after Piper had finished her sentence because there are so many other interesting characters, and I would think Taystee would be the top pick for a character to focus on... but really I do watch the show for Piper and I think it could hold up without her, but I really liked it with her.
I think the character I ended up liking wayyy more was Puse. I thought her story was very powerful, I liked that she didn't want to have anything to do with Vee. She also loves Taystee, and I think Taystee kind of likes her but isn't into girls. I just thought that she was such a great actress, her character went through a lot this year and I was happy to see such depth in her character.
I was kind of disappointed that they didn't show more of Watson this season. She was barely in it, although she was helping Vee and her gang and she got sent to the SHU... I just would have liked to see more of her and Yoga Jones. I guess she wasn't the best character from the first season, but I liked her and I just thought there could have been more.
One thing I found super interesting about the show was that they added some new characters like Brook So So and Vee, but they didn't really focus on them all that much. I guess they focused a lot on Vee, but they focused more on characters we already know but didn't get around to seeing last season. I thought Lorna's story was interesting and powerful, I wouldn't have guessed that she was psychotic and she was just stalking Christopher and she was never engaged to them. I thought Rosa's story as a bankrobber was incredible, and it was also a great way to transition the end. I was also happy they had an episode about Gloria, I always liked her too but they really needed to show her more often. And the nun also! Her story was actually really fun and I liked learning more about her. I thought they did a good job.
Vee was a great villain this season, but I'm surprised she and Fig were the only real villains. Last season I was sure that the people I hated the most were Healy and Pennsatucky and this season I actually really liked them. I liked that they helped each other out and that Pennsatucky is Boo's bitch now lol. I like that she was the one that really told Brook to shut up, that made me like her better. And her teeth got fixed and it was kind of nice to see her all excited and that the other girls were jealous of her. Fig was just awful, but I did feel kind of bad for her. Vee was just terrible, I don't think she ever loved Taystee and she really just used everyone for her benefit. She especially changed Crazy Eyes to be her muscle and to take the fall for her when she beat up Red. I was very happy at the end and Rosa became my favorite inmate probably (SPOILER) for running her over and killing her. It was a great moment.
And I can't end this without talking about the inevitable... POLLY AND LARRY GETTING TOGETHER!!!!! Ohhh my god! What a terrible idea! I saw it coming, I think everyone did, and I can see why they think its a good idea. But next season I think they're going to realize that it's a completely terrible idea and break up. I think they're basically just together because they miss Piper. Of corse Polly misses her best friend, she needs someone to talk to and someone to help her with the baby and Larry was there. Polly is the life that Larry wanted with Piper, he wanted a kid and a normal couple life and that wouldn't really happen with Piper after she had been in prison. It is interesting and I'm waiting to see how badly it turns out.
Also I need to talk about 2 episodes that I think were my absolute favorites probably of the series other than the premier and the finale. I loved the episode with Piper on furlow (idk if that's how you spell it...) and the episode with Hurricane Wanda. It was nice to see Piper with her brother because they're hardly ever together and Piper's brother is sooo soo funny. It was funny to see her try to explain everything about why she was out and it was just super super funny all around. I also thought it was interesting to see the "real life" test of Piper and Larry's relationship. It was just a really great episode that I think is my favorite. I also liked the Hurricane Wanda episode because it was so different. Even though its not like they were anywhere different, it was just so different seeing them all together in one place. It was just a fun and different episode. It was just sooo so great all around. Really liked this episode.
So yeah... I've been writing this and watching tv at the same time and I think I've actually been working on writing this for like 2 hours... it's been over an hour at least. That's crazy! Anyway hope you like it!
