So I didn't know I would like this movie from The Blacklist Table Reads... so I waited a while until I watched it... and as it turns out it was really great.
It's a period movie thats a lot like Jane Austen. It revolves around 2 girls, one is a higher class and one is a preacher's daughter or something like that and her name is Selina. The richer girl, who I believe is named Julia goes out to the opera with a rich and eligible man named Mr. Malcolm, whom she later finds out has a list of qualities he is looking for a woman and Julia doesn't meet any of his requirements... causing Julia to think he has "impossible standards" and gets outraged that he doesn't want her.
Julia devises a plan to make Mr. Malcolm fall in love with Selina and then have Selina show him that she also has a list that doesn't meet her requirements. Selina doesn't completely agree with the plan, but she tells Julie she'll think about it and she does agree to go out with Mr. Malcolm... who is quite charming and wonderful.
Its a lot like Pride and Prejudice in my opinion, but it is a lot funnier and lighter and has a somewhat happier ending in my opinion. It was very well written, it felt like something that would really happen and even though it was a period piece, it was still really relatable for today's audience in my opinion. Because yeah, sometimes guys or girls are picky and that sucks. Sometimes best friends can be snobby... and that sucks. Sometimes your best friends don't go along with your plans, and that can suck too.
Also all the characters are really likable... except for Selina's cousin... who is quite funny. Even when it seems like they aren't doing the right thing... its not like any of them are unlikable... which makes it easier to read a period peace or listen to one. Some of the characters in Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice I didn't like... and some you weren't really meant to like, but I thought it moved it along better that you could see where all the characters were coming from and relate to all of them.
My favorite movie from this podcast is still Terrible Parents, but this is really good too. Even if you think its something not for you, try and listen to it. You'll probably end up liking it more than you thought.
