Alright... so this isn't really something the bridesmaid has anything to do with... but I'll let you know anyway because there is a lot of stuff that goes into booking a venue and... its something you don't really hear a lot about... so I'm just going to let you know here.
So I never realized that picking a venue and picking a date go hand in hand. Venue's get booked up A LOT so if you're going in planning a Saturday Wedding in June... not that likely to happen. The movie I think that got it pretty right is Bride Wars. The Plaza in June??? No. Not likely. And weekends are always the most popular time for a wedding... obviously so Saturdays are usually booked up. If you're having a lot of out-of- town people, Saturdays are probably the easiest... but Sundays aren't like a major inconvenience or anything. Plus the Saturday option for my sister was earlier in the day, so they would need to make sure everyone was out because there would be another wedding that night... and thats fine. The venue is very professional, I know they wouldn't be rushing us out or anything they know what they're doing... but my family isn't necessarily good at rushing out of places on time, so it would be another thing to deal with. Lol. They're gonna kind of rush you out on a Sunday too because they have to get home and stuff and no one likes working late on a Sunday... but at least you don't have to worry about someone else being there after.
Friday is also a popular day... but then you have to worry about everyone getting off of work and stuff. If you work at a small office or something, its likely the bosses could shut the place down for the weekend of the wedding... but if you're like the CEO of Wallmart or something... that might be hard for people to take off for you. Lol. I love that the CEO of Wallmart is reading this blog in my mind. Idk it might be easier for some people than others. If you watch the Jim and Pam episode of the office... that'll kind of give you an idea of what its like.
Speaking of Jim and Pam's wedding, if you're having a destination wedding, thats awesome! But keep your guests into consideration. I wanted to get married at Disneyworld. I wanted it to be magical and have a disney wedding... but then my older relatives were like "how will we get there." So thats kind of out of the question. I know people wouldn't show up if I had it far away... and I don't want that. So you kind of have to keep it in consideration.
Also its good to have kind of like a one- stop shop. My sister's venue does all their own catering, they have their own cake from a good cake shop nearby. They have a beautiful garden outside where they're having the ceremony and taking the pictures, a nice place for cocktail hour, and a lovely inside with a lot of room... which is always good. My sister was somewhat familiar with the venue and she didn't want to spend too much time deciding on a venue, she just wanted to get it over with... which I think is a pretty good approach. Venue and Dress are the 2 most important things really and she already has those done and it isn't getting married till May... so thats good. And we haven't had the tasting yet... that's coming up soon... but we went to an event there and the food is really good. And they have a lot of menu options depending on when you're having the wedding (day or night) and how many guests you have. So that is a good thing to pay attention to while choosing.
Plus its easy because we don't need a caterer or anything. Its good.
And thats about all the advice I have for picking a venue. Its easy to go with what you initially like... but don't be afraid to look around a little bit. It just might be harder to get a date the more you look around. Don't be discouraged if you don't get just the date you wanted... it'll still be great, people would still love to be there for you and stuff and... it'll just be nice.Nice for the family to get together and celebrate your love with your future husband... and thats all that matters!
