So I thought that I would start something a little new on here and I would do a throwback to anything that I used to like or love and just talk about it again. Books, movies, songs, bands, clothes maybe. All sorts of things that give me a throwback. I'll give a little mini review/update about it.
So I picked up The Princess Diaries again recently because I heard that there was going to be a new book for Adults. Since I grew up with the series... I needed to reread it again and I've started the first book. It's perfect since I need a little break from serious books after Gone Girl.
I read this book when I was 11 so it's been over 10 years since I've read this guy...and it is a book for teens that I read a little young, so there were parts I thought that I didn't fully understand back then. I don't think I knew what testicular cancer was really, but I understood it after reading this and I knew that Mia's dad couldn't have any more kids. There's also mention of Lilly's stalker that has a foot fetish... And I didn't know what a fetish was but I knew he liked feet and I thought that was the weirdest thing I'd ever heard.
I also think of the book differently now. There is praise from the book saying that it's like reading a note from your best friend... And I really did think that at the time. Now I think it's more like I'm reading pages from my actual diary. I remember reading this book in class when other kids were reading Harry Potter. I hated 5th grade, my teacher is probably one of the meanest people I've ever actually met and this book was probably my favorite thing about that year. We actually did have a fun little party where we could dress up as our favorite book character and I was Mia and it was really fun. I wore a uniform and a tiara.
One funny thing that I've noticed about the book is that she talks about algebra. I was never good at math, but I wasn't horrible at algebra. At the time it was high school math that I didn't understand because I was too young. Now it's high school math I don't understand because I'm too old. I just think it's funny that I totally don't remember any of it at all. I remember the formulas and terms, but the hell if I know what it means! This probably isn't a good thing, but it's so true!
So I haven't finished it, I'm not even all that far in it to be honest, but I really really think it's still funny and amazing. I would definitely recommend reading it, or rereading it if you already have. I feel like there are certain things I'll never be too old for, and this is one of them. I love it and I always will. Definitely one of my favorite series, even still! So great!
