Scribbles About TV: Marlon

This is a new show on NBC that I didn't really know existed... but there was nothing on to watch the night it debuted... and I like Marlon Wayans and so does my mom... so I kept it on and I actually thought it was pretty good.

The concept of the show is that Marlon is a youtuber... at least- that's what it was in the first episode at least... the second episode kind of dropped that narrative of it... which was kind of weird. But Marlon and his wife are going through a divorce, but they're still very close and he still misses her.

The chemistry between Marlon and his wife Ashley- played by Essence Atkins is really great. They seem like old friends... and it kind of feels a little like they are still a couple... but it's just kind of enough that it works really well with the show... so I like that a lot. I think they're both really great on the show and it's funny.

The friends on the show are really funny too... Diallo Riddle who plays Kevin is really funny, he's Marlon's friend that "almost has a degree" in African American Studies and Psychology... so he's kind of a foil for Marlon... and kind of a voice of reason... but in a funny way. Ashley's friend Yvette is funny too... I only kind of caught her in the second episode... but I think she'll be in it more and she's really funny.

The pilot was Marlon jealous that Ashley was out on a date... which isn't anything too unique- but the way they did it on Marlon was funny and it felt like it had a little more life to it. Same with the second episode- Marlon was getting rid of some stuff that he had with Ashley in a storage unit... but he couldn't get rid of it because it had sentimental value... which again... not the most unique story ever... but they did it differently enough so that it was just good and funny.

The ratings for this show were really great too. It was the highest rated scripted show of the summer... I think it's just because Marlon Wayans is just really funny. I've seen White Chicks a bunch of times... and that is a pretty terrible movie... but Marlon Wayans is really funny. I feel like most of his movies are that same way... he's just really good. People are excited for him to be on TV... and I was too! I didn't hear about the show until I saw it on the channel guide... For some reason I thought it was Maya and Marty- the variety show with Maya Rudolph and Martin Short that they aired a few years ago (I think? maybe it was last year) and then I was really excited to see that Marlon Wayans had a tv show! I thought "Finally! Something that isn't a repeat is on!"

So if you're looking for something good to watch before all the fall shows come back- definitely go with Marlon. It's just a fun show... a little bit different and there's not much to it!

If you want to catch it... 9'oclock on NBC Wednesday Nights- I will probably be watching it more often now!

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
