Soooo if you've ever been to the Jersey Shore... and you drink coffee... or beer, you probably know what Rook is. They're a nice local coffee shop, there are stores all over. They have good coffee, iced coffee.. Its a little strong for me. I'm quite a sweet tooth, but I still enjoy the New Orleans blend, The Pumpkin Blend and the Gingerbread and it is pretty delicious!
So this was my first time competing in the event... I signed up as a runner... but everyone else I knew was walking, so I ended up walking also. Okay that isn't true. I really didn't train to run at all... and my sister is pregnant, so she thought it would be better to walk... and then we all sort of ended up walking instead of running... so we were towards the end of the list on the competing side... which is fun. Next year we won't be! Lol.
Anyway yeah this is my first time competing, its actually a nice, easy trail... its really hard to walk it, I was quite tired afterwards. When we got to the mile markers we were like "We've only been walking that much???" And that was kind of funny.
The event itself is very well organized. There are helpers everywhere. When we went to pick up our swag bag they had everything down to a science basically... we were in and out. And even with the trails and stuff... my friends that have competed before said that they changed the trail this year and it was a little bit easier because it was a little confusing in previous years... so they are constantly improving that. They didn't improve the swag bag really... Kane Brewery, which is a delicious local brewery, I've reviewed their blend with Rook Coffee called Morning Bell last year I believe... Yes! I will link that right here! They used to do pint glasses and this year they did not... which my sister was a little upset about... but I still liked the swag bag! They gave 2 really good pens and some drink cozies... I was excited. Free stuff? I'll take it lol!
Its nice as a spectator too, they have it in Pier Village, which is a cool place to hang out and people watch. I kind of like watching races, its just a nice thing to do. They give free samples of Rook Coffee and Delicious Orchards Cider... which is the best. For the runners... and maybe for the people attending the event they have free fruit, water, bagels, Jersey Mikes Subs... there's a lot. You don't have to worry too much about lunch after if you're going...
But if you do want to go to lunch, there is a brunch special at Rooney's afterward. My friend and I went last year... it was pretty good! I think I'm just kind of a brunch person... I'm a little picky about Buffets though... but still we had fun.
And its for a great cause! I really love The Valerie Fund, it is a really great charity. I know they help a lot of people and a lot of families a lot. And they have fun events for the kids there as well... its just a good fund. Look it up, I would sign up for the run just because it is a really good cause and it is a good fundraiser to give too!
I think that is everything I need to say? Its a fun, well organized event. The Rook team really knows what they're doing. There are other stands there, you can buy rook t shirts and some other things... I was wayyy too tired to notice this year and I can't really remember from previous years... but its a fun and exciting event and I think if you're in the area or if you know the area and want to do a run or a walk, I recommend signing up. The t-shirts are really nice and soft too. I recommend going!
