The ABSOLUTE WORST Opening Scene To Any Movie...

So I was watching Comedy Central... and a movie I've seen a few times came on- and I thought "This is a weird way to start this movie..." So let's talk about it.

Let's start with the movie in question: We're The Millers. The movie stars Jason Sudekis and Jennifer Aniston with Emma Roberts and Will Poulter (from Bandersnatch). Anyway the poster kind of put it very bluntly, Sudekis is a Drug Dealer, Jennifer Aniston plays a stripper, Emma Roberts is a runaway teen and Will Poulter is the nerdy virgin. Jason Sudekis is the main star of the movie so he's kind of like a regular guy who's just kind of a slacker drugdealer... and the opening scene is supposed to convey that to us... The group has to later band together and pretend to be a family to try to sneak drugs from Mexico to the US.

So what do they show us to open this movie? This video...  The viral Double Rainbow video. And then its followed by other viral videos to show us Jason Sudekis' character is just watching these videos for like 1 minute and then it shows him being a drug dealer.

I feel like 1) It INSTANTLY dates the movie. The Double Rainbow Video was already pretty old at the time this movie came out... and watching it now it just seems like a ridiculous way to start a movie.

It's also really lazy. I feel like they just put it in there for a quick easy laugh from the audience. It doesn't really matter or make sense to the rest of the movie and it's just not funny.

The rest of the movie...is kind of the same as the opening scene. It's not super funny... I've watched it a few times- I saw it in theaters... but it's not my favorite movie... it's probably no one's favorite movie. It's an okay comedy- but nothing too special or different from other comedies. There are other comedies that have been released that have been funnier. Something like Due Date with Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifinakis- probably a better movie but that kind of went under the radar... whereas this everyone was sort of like "ohhhhhhh. Yeah. This." And that's how this movie stands the test of time.

I will say however- I do always know the movie when it's on. I recognize the double rainbow thing and I say "Ohhh- We're The Millers is on!"

So... that's that for today. Weird post- I know but it needed to be said. It is a bad way to start a movie!

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
