I have to say, as far as drama's go... I have never been as impressed as I have been with the dramas that are just airing on TV right now, and there are already a lot of great things on TV right now and I think a lot of dramas are stepping up their game and I think this season is going to be amazing.
These two shows are no exception! I just felt so connected to these characters and I'm already sucked into the world created in these shows and honestly they're such simple concepts, but they have never quite been done before in this way.
First I'm going to start off with Gotham. We all know the story of Batman and we love it and the characters and villains from that world. In this show, Bruce Wayne isn't Batman yet, he's a little boy that just had to watch his parents get murdered by someone the cops didn't even know. This is quite a scandal in the city of Gotham because his parents were rich and they were very well known in the community, and its not something that just a regular guy could pull off.
Then they have these cops, one, Gordon who is trying to be the good guy. He sees everything that is happening and going wrong and he doesn't want to go along with it, he wants to stop it! Then there's Harvey Dent... aka Two Face, who is already very two faced. He's doing all of these things he thinks are in the name of good... but they're very bad things.
And the villains themselves are super interesting. We have Fish Mooney played by Jada Pinkett Smith, who is completely flawless. The Penguin, who is just as creepy as you would think he is. They even show us Selina Kyle aka Catwoman and Poison Ivy as kids. There were hints of The Riddler and The Joker also.
I thought the Pilot did go a bit over the top. The villains were totally spelled out to us... I think we should have to guess a little bit at least. Like in Once Upon a Time, some characters like Ruby were totally obvious, but then other characters like Dr. Whale, we kind of had to guess at. And this seems like "Okay stop asking us so many riddles"... obviously we know who this guy is...
There were some parts that were a little boring but overall a great show and I highly recommend you guys watch it!
Then there's How To Get Away With Murder... which is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Ohhh my gosh! It's so exciting already! Viola Davis is so completely wicked in her role and she's in control and just... wow. As a college student, I didn't think a show about a college class would be all that interesting... but DAMN! It's so much more than just about a college class. There's murder going on everywhere and all these trials and sex and lying and Bennet from OITNB is in it... it's just... wow.
I'm reviewing this with the Gotham Pilot because I literally have NO IDEA what to say about it other than that you must watch it. The characters are all incredibly interesting and I'm already trying to guess what's going to happen next. I like it for the same reason I liked Gone Girl basically. It's so exciting its like you think the students are all doing one thing and that they killed one person and you think you have an idea as to who that person is... but then you find out something else and that that ties into what you originally thought and UGHHH! You may have to watch it a second time, but its such a great show I could probably watch the same episode like 10 more times and be okay with it.
Definitely recommend these shows! I'm super excited to see the upcoming episodes already!
