I did have a Throwback Thursday planned for today, but I will be posting that tomorrow instead because I really admire Joan Rivers and I wanted to say some things about her. She is one of my idols, as a female that wants to go into comedy, I look up to any female that does comedy... but Joan Rivers I think really made a huge difference for all women in show business today.
I love that she would never hold back what she was saying. Whether it was about a person's outfit or what she truly thought of someone, she would always say the exact truth... and honestly thats what we should all want to hear! She reminds me of my really good friends that I feel like I can depend on telling me their honest feelings without sugar coating anything. Like she's actually wise and is fabulous so she knows what she's doing and you should take her advice. Her appearance on Louie was so true to how she was as a person even a comedian like Louis Ck could take her advice and benefit from it.
She's also such an incredibly strong woman. She had such an amazing work ethic that she was still working and touring at the age of 81! That is actually spectacular and totally unheard of. Like she didn't just give up! She wasn't any less funny as she got older, she was always totally and completely on point! Her wit will never be matched!
Plus she could poke fun at herself. She would always make comments about all her plastic surgery and everything that she's had. She could get away with making fun of everyone else because she's totally the most fabulous person ever and even SHE made fun of herself! There's no escaping her lol! And I'm sure that right now in heaven she's making jokes about herself and the whole situation and its probably hilarious!
And it isn't just her humor that set her apart from the rest of Hollywood: She also loved her daughter and her grandson so much that it actually brings me to tears. I think Melissa was her whole life and that she really loved her more than anything. And whenever she talked about her grandson, it seemed like she was having more fun being a grandma than anything else in the world. Even just going to Disney World and Riding the tea cups with him ( the way she described her face on the teacups was FANTASTIC!) And really there aren't many mother-daughter bonds like theirs that I've ever seen in the real world, let alone in Hollywood. It really is a powerful thing to see and there really is no one else like the two of them today.
It really is truly a great loss for Hollywood. Award seasons will never be the same without her and she will truly, truly be missed.
