Movie Monday: Her

Okay... so this is what happens when you lose a bet with your boyfriend. You watch Her...

JK! So I lost a bet with my boyfriend and so he got to pick out what movie we watched and there wasn't a whole lot on Netflix... so he chose the movie Her starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson's voice. It was a weird movie that is very beloved by most but to me... it was okay. I don't really see what the fuss was about.

So the world in this movie was really interesting. It opens with Joaquin Phoenix's character, Theodore reading a letter that he's writing... because that's what he does for a living. He writes letters for people professionally. And they look handwritten- but they're still typed. It's a really interesting look into the future and the perfect backround for this character. He's doing something kind of old fashioned like writing handwritten letters, but in a modern way that the audience can connect to. Writing letters and cards are kind of fading away- but we remember them and still like them... and there's a lot of heart that Theodore takes into writing for these people- some of them he's written for for years. And it's pretty brilliantly portrayed that he is good at what he does and he loves doing it.

And then Theodore gets a new phone and quickly connects with the Operating System- Samantha. And... they form a relationship- which in this time is still considered weird- but he isn't the first person to be dating an OS. They actually have a very real, human relationship with a lot of the same problems that humans would have... but its still weird.

And honestly.... idk I know everyone has been saying this is a brilliant movie since it came out but... I just didn't love it. It was okay to watch but there wasn't much that resonated with me... it's not something I really see myself watching again and overall... it just kind of made me feel uncomfortable. This movie has sooo many weird phone sex scenes that weren't really needed... and my grandma was in the room while the first sex scene was on so that was just COMPLETELY weird. Even if there hadn't been that awkward scene... I still don't think I would have loved the movie. I'm happy I watched it but... it definitely wasn't worth all the hype I had heard about it. I just kind of thought it was meh.

So yeah... there's my hot take on that. I think I'd give it a C+ because I didn't not enjoy it but it just wasn't for me.

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...
