Throwback Thursday: The Big Sick Review

This is a movie that I missed in theaters although I really REALLY wanted to see it... and yeah. I'm kind of glad that I waited so long to see it and that I now own it...because this is just sort of amazing and one of the best movies I've ever seen maybe.

I've been a fan of Kumail Nanjiani for a long time. He was on a show called Michael and Michael Have Issues with Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter... and they used to answer questions on twitter during the show and I remember asking Michael Showalter who the one guy was because I thought he was so funny and he said "Oh that's Kumail, he's a writer" and since then he's gotten more and more famous and yeah. He also has an X Files podcast and I'm a massive fan of The X Files... so I listened to that for a while too. I knew a little bit about his story with his wife Emily Gordon. I knew that sometime when they were dating she was in a coma and I knew he was from Pakistan. While I was watching it- I had no idea how much was real and how much was made up... just now I looked on IMDB so I kind of know... and it doesn't really matter much to the plot of the actual story... but I just wanted to know that Kumail's mother was more accepting than in the movie. Which I knew- but still. Lol.

Anyhoo back to my actual review of this... there is A LOT going on in this movie and that makes it so great. They have the differences in culture between Kumail and Emily... and what Kumail's parents want vs what Kumail wants. There's also relationship issues between Kumail and Emily at the beginning of the film and... it was just all very real and felt very much like this all happened in real life... because it did all happen in real life I suppose but yes. It was just good and it was a lot and Emily got sicker which was sad... and then in the end you kind of see how every little detail in the beginning was so important to the end of the movie. Nothing in the story felt wasted or unimportant- it all kind of meant something... and I love that in any movie or TV show... it was just really great overall and I loved this story because of that.

I don't really have much more to say about this other than in general- this was just a brilliant story told very brilliantly and acted very well... I just love it.

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...
