Shannon Loves: Pixar

Okay... so I have kind of a Pixar theme going on right now and I'd like to mention why I love Pixar and why Pixar means so much to me... so yeah.

It all started when Toy Story came out! I was a kid... I remember seeing it in theaters with my dad, my sister and I think my sister's best friend at the time. My dad doesn't really go to a lot of movies- but I kind of wonder if he wanted to see the movie as much as we did. It was something different and my dad has always loved computers and technology... so I'm guessing he knew more about what Pixar was and why this was so special. Maybe we were just arguing or something and he wanted to get us out of the house... not really sure! But I remember seeing this in theaters and I loved it. I knew my toys came to life when I wasn't in the room! This confirmed it.

Also... this is still something I kind of believe. No shame. I know that toys don't really come to life when you aren't in the room... but I mean come on! You can never really prove it- so I wouldn't discount it.

So after that was out A Bug's Life came out... which is funny and memorable because it had bloopers at the end of the movie... and those were sooo funny but also especially funny for an animated movie. A Bug's Life also had the best toys when I was little. I might still have them and I'll play with them with my niece soon enough in that case... but it was cool. It was different and I just really liked that.

Sometime between Toy Story 2 and Monster's Inc came out... I wanted to work at Pixar. I saw a Movie Surfer's* Episode that showed people working at Pixar and the studio looked so fun and I just wanted to work there. I started drawing a lot... and one of my substitute teachers even said that it looked like a real cartoon or comic... and I thought that was really cool.

So yeah. I loved Monster's Inc because I guess at that time I had already loved Pixar so much from these other movies and that was the best one to date... and I also just really like Monsters. Again- the toys for Monster's Inc were pretty spectacular. I had a big, cuddly Sully... I had a boo that babbled and talked. I had a Boo dressed like Santa. I never got the Mike Wizowski Alarm Clock... but that was great. Pixar is pretty darn great at merchandising and that can make nostalgia real. Why do you think I'm hesitant to re-watch or review the Star Wars Prequels?

Finding Nemo I think kind of set the tone more for what Pixar is known for today. It's very sad and it was more heartwarming and serious than the earlier Pixar movies... I suppose that Toy Story 3 and Monster's Inc did have those themes of sadness... but I think Finding Nemo was really what kind of set the tone for those sadder Pixar movies that they typically go to today.

I don't have much emotional attachment to The Incredibles and Cars. I don't love those movies that much.

I watched Wall E in High School when I was feeling lonely one day and that was a sweet movie that made me feel better. I could relate to the little robot at the beginning. (I know it's Wall E I'm just saying that because that is how I always thought of it.) I thought that if he could find love and company with Eve- I could find that. Wall E's situation was sadder than mine.

I watched Ratatouille and I thought it was hilarious. I saw it once with my sister and once again with my mom and grandparents. It was out before I went to France... so that was cool. I still think this is the funniest Pixar movie.

I don't know if I love the whole story of Up... but I do love the animation and the first 20 minutes of the movie are some of my favorites ever. The "Married Life" section is heartbreaking and beautiful. And this movie came out after my grandfather passed away... and Carl looks a little like him- so this always makes me think of him.

Similar to that- Coco came out after my other grandfather passed away... and he took me to see a lot of these movies so I think he would have loved this.

Toy Story 3 came out when I was graduating High School.

Inside Out is just one of my favorites... and I think that's actually how emotions work. I think that would make sense... and that's another thing I love about Pixar.

And I don't have too much emotional attachments to any other movies and I think I've blabbered on enough right now so I'm going to start... but Pixar has always been an important part of my life... for most of my life as well... and I still always love seeing these movies and I always will watch Pixar movies. It's funny to think that I remember seeing Toy Story so clearly with my sister when we were kids... and someday soon we'll probably be taking her daughter to see Pixar movies... it's crazy... and I'm excited to see what else they come out with.

Bye!
-Shannon

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
