So I never really liked the movie The Santa Clause with Tim Allen- I love The Santa Clause 2... but The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 3 just weren't my thing.
And I think the reason I never liked The Santa Clause is that I couldn't relate to it and I just kind of thought it was sad. It was sad that Santa died, it was sad that Tim Allen and his wife were divorced and overall... I just thought the movie was a little dark. But that being said... a lot of people get divorced, a lot of divorces aren't that nice when children are involved and... even though it's the holidays- bad things still happen... and that doesn't mean Christmas has to be dark and gloomy... I appreciate that about this movie... that isn't really why I liked it though... but it's a start.
The reason The Santa Clause 2 is my favorite is because I love how they show The North Pole in that movie... I just like that North Pole and even though I was maybe a little older when The Santa Clause 2 came out... I feel like that's my understanding of The North Pole. More so than The Polar Express or Rudolph even... I think they did a good job showing that in the second movie and it was just really good. This movie I think did a great job explaining how Santa works. It kind of answers every question you might have about Santa and I think that the series does a good job of explaining these things. This shows how Santa works, the second shows the north pole, and I haven't seen much of the third... but I think that one shows how much Scott likes being Santa.
I think one big problem with this movie is that it almost over- explains everything... and towards the end when they're wrapping everything up... it doesn't do the best job of things... Like Scott was so convinced that he had a dream and that he wasn't Santa... and then he just accepts that he's Santa because of plot convenience. And that happens with his son's mother and stepfather too... it gets particularly shakey with Judge Rinehold's character because he says "Scott? Santa!?!?!" Like he believes that Scott is Santa and then when Bernard the Elf comes in he's like "No he's just messing with us" and Scott's ex wife is like "I'll explain it to you."
Also the reason Judge Rinehold's character and Scott's ex don't believe in Santa is because they didn't get a present that they wanted as a kid... and that just seems weird. I guess that does get kids to stop believing... but it sounded a little snobby almost. The way that Scott's ex says " I got so many presents, but not the one that I wanted" just sounded too entitled to be likable... and I don't really understand how Judge Rinehold remembers from when he was 3 and stopped believing in Santa... that just seems weird.
And I liked the snow globe that Bernard gives Charlie... I think it's cute that they make sure that Charlie knows that he's still Santa's favorite kid. With all the other themes in the movie- that's just another good one- in my opinion anyway!
I hope you guys like this review... I feel like this might be my most detailed blogmas post yet... lol.
