Scribbles about Movies: Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever

This is going to be a weird review... there were a lot of things I liked about this movie and a lot of things I didn't like about it. Overall I liked the movie, it was cute, heartwarming and its something I can see actually watching several times throughout the years and holiday seasons. I thought the biggest problem with it was that it was wayyy wayyy too long. There is really no reason for a 2 hour long Grumpy Cat movie... It just got pretty boring kind of fast.

Sooo I'll try to explain the premise of the movie... but it should be warned that this makes no sense at all. There were a lot of characters and so many stories and substories it was a bit much. The titular character of this movie is Grumpy Cat herself, voiced by the Amazing Aubrey Plaza, who redefines the word grumpy. Then there is a little girl named Chrystal who's parents just got divorced and had no friends, her mom, the elf that she flirts with, the pet store owner, all the pets, the security guy, the landlord guy, the two bad guys that are in a band, and Santa...

So the pet store Grumpy lives in isn't doing to well, no one is adopting the animals and the landlord guy comes in to try and shut it down, but the pet shop owner explains that he has a dog thats worth a million dollars and he's beautiful and famous and the dog will save the pet store. The news comes over to do a big story on the million dollar dog, the bad guys find out they steal the dog.

Also Chrystal the little girl meets Santa, who says he's just a fill in mall Santa for whoever is doing it now because he had to pick his mom up from the airport or something like that... Idk, doesn't matter. But Santa gives her a magical coin and tells her to make a wish, and she wishes for a friend. She then goes to the Pet Store that she works at and she can hear Grumpy Cat talk because of Christmas Magic.

So yeah eventually Chrystal goes to the mall after hours to see Grumpy again and then the bad guys steal the dog. They run around in the mall, Chrystal and grumpy try to save the dog and the store, there's a twist where there is YET ANOTHER bad guy and it isn't who you would expect... Like I said there is a lot going on.

There were a lot of funny things about this movie. They broke the fourth wall a lot, there were great one-liners from Grumpy, the other characters were pretty funny and overall it was a cute heartwarming movie. On an episode of the podcast How Did This Get Made, June Diane Raphael mentioned that she watched Christmas movies with sort of a filter. Like "Ohhh this isn't going to be a bad movie because it's a Christmas movie." And I agree with her that that is usually what keeps Christmas Movies watchable and just an enjoyable experience. This had the Christmas factor along with the Grumpy Cat factor... so yeah thats pretty good. Even if the premise didn't make sense and it was kind of long and boring, it was enjoyable and a fun holiday tradition.

Also to the best of my knowledge, this is the second movie based on a meme. The first being Safety Not Guaranteed, also starring Aubrey Plaza. I'm more of a fan of Safety... but this is a genre I now like and I'll definitely watch any upcoming meme movies.

So that is it for now... I will be blogging more regularly soon. I just felt a little overwhelmed with the craziness of the holidays & school and all. Expect some good stuffs.

A lot of people are saying this is actually the worst Christmas movie ever... but I've seen worse. Lol. It was cute and like I said, the Christmas of it all seemed to work in its favor.

Byeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
