Summer Bucket List: How'd I do?

Alright... so  here  is a list of my summer bucket list... and this is what I actually did! DID I GO OUTSIDE?  I was outside enough for my liking I think. I'm not an outdoors person- but I can go outside and appreciate it. I went in the pool a few times, I enjoyed any moments I had outside...but I didn't go outside for an hour every day because realistically I wouldn't like that and that is just sort of an idea I got from Prison. Lol. DID I READ MORE???  Kinnnnnnddddd of. This is something I still need to work on. I'm in a book club now that is a minimum effort book club... so that's definitely something that won't be too hard to keep up with. I read a few kids graphic novels and I started some books... but I need to read some more and finish them. It is definitely something I want to read- as well as some other Stephen King books... he's interesting lol. I'm excited to read some spooky books in the fall. DID I GO ON FAMILY ADVENTURES???  Yes

Marvel Monday: Iron Man 3 Review

Okay! So as much as I love Marvel now... the whole reason that I never really got into the Marvel Movies was because I did not like the first Iron Man. I don't know what it was... I just could not get into it. I've basically been trying to watch the movie since it came out... not my thing. I don't dislike Iron Man as a character- I actually think he's the perfect character to anchor the MCU... and I love his foil with Captain America- I actually think this movie showed their differences perfectly even though Captain America wasn't even in it. I just loved a lot about the movie and I'm excited to tell you guys how I liked it.  First... let me talk about why I like the dynamic of Iron Man vs. Captain America. Tony Stark is a wealthy man that basically made his money developing weapons- and I'm not a huge expert on this subject matter- but there is a big ethical issues with that... and Captain America is a soldier. He's fought in wars and seen what weapo

A Day At The Point Pleasant Boardwalk

So- I think I talked about this recently... but on my summer Bucket List I wanted to go to the Point Pleasant Boardwalk... maybe I didn't mention that... I don't remember but I just did this yesterday- July 8th my time... and it was a lot of fun! The Point Pleasant Boardwalk was one of my favorite places to go as a kid. My parents and grandparents used to take me. We were so excited to finally bring my niece... but I was also pretty excited to just go for myself... not going to lie. I love it there! I don't really do the rides anymore- I did go on the Carousel with my niece and my sister and brother in law... but yeah. There aren't tons of rides for adults- which is fine but it's still fun! My big thing when I was a kid were the arcades... and that is what I'm most disappointed in right now. It is IMPOSSIBLE to win at the claw machines. I used to be sooo good at the claws... but then after Hurricane Sandy- they changed it and made it a lot more difficult to

Stuff I Ate: Donut Fries

Alright- not sure if these are still out right now or not... but recently Dunkin Donuts started doing a special menu type thing-and as of the time I'm writing this the only thing that came out anywhere outside of Massachusetts (I think) are the Donut Fries... which is the thing that everyone was most excited about. Let's talk about Expectations vs. Reality here... I don't know why- but I was expecting these to be kind of crispy and sort of like Churros. They weren't like that at all! They were kind of fluffy... and people are kind of comparing them to a cronut... it's sort of like that and sort of like a soft Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel... but with more of a dough texture than a pretzel texture... so keep that in mind. These are delicious! They're a little bit like the Taco Bell Cinnabon Delights- but without the cream... which I think I kind of prefer... I love the Cinnabon Delights after a night at the bar... you get the Cool Ranch Doritoes Locos Taco, you get

Sometimes Things Suck- Here's How To Make It Better!

Last night I was just in a bad mood for one reason or another... Let me kind of backtrack a little bit. So I had just relaunched my blog and decided to create a facebook page. I thought "ohhh I've seen other bloggers with facebook pages. This could help the blog grow a little bit- I could be a little more interactive with everyone on there... they might actually care about what I'm posting a little more... it'll be super great!" Plus I thought that maybe this would be the sort of "kick in the butt" that I needed to actually make the blogs a little bit better... maybe even a bit more personal. So... this just seemed like a good idea. Then I made the page... and I didn't want to invite people at first because I was like "eh- that's annoying. I never go to pages people invite me to. I'm just going to kind of post it on my personal facebook page and maybe people will follow me there. And that didn't seem to work. My mom's friend

Relaunching a Blog, Creating a Facebook Page, Trying to do Better!

Okay... so if you guys don't know... this was pretty much always a daily blog... but I kind of re-branded it in July and I wanted to come back with 70 posts ready to go for the next few months... and I was just feeling super inspired by everything and I wrote EVERYTHING for the most part... and I just liked doing that and I sort of went with it... came up with some ideas and stuff and then I just kind of kept going with it... So as of right now- I JUST relaunched the blog. I'm writing this on July 2nd- so my first blog back was  A Little Bit About Me  and right now it's done pretty well. I shared it on my personal facebook... which is what I want to keep doing with these posts... but I also created an actual Facebook page for myself.... so you can go and "Like" Shannon Kahermanes and see all of my posts there... Thus far: No one Likes Me! Actually I like myself... but that doesn't count right? Doing the facebook page was easy... but it was also a little tr

Pixar's Bao Broke Me (In A Good Way) *Spoilers*

Okay... so I just watched The Incredibles 2... I'm posting this much after... but I just saw that movie a few hours ago at this point... and I loved it. But I can't stop thinking about the beautiful animated short before the movie- which was called Bao. In Bao we see a Bao bun come to life for a woman... and she raises it for her own. She gets the Bao baby everything it wants, she watches him grow up and start to rebel against her and he becomes closer to friends that she doesn't like... and eventually he gets engaged and tries to move away... but the woman eats the Bao before he can go... and then she cries in her bed. We then find out that this woman does have a real human son that has come back and he wants to let her know how much he loves her... and it's really really sweet. We then see her making bao buns with the son and his new fiance/wife... and the fiance or wife is doing a better job then the son... and it's just really sweet. The scene where she

Marvel Monday: Marvel Apocalypse Team

Okay... so this is kind of a funny idea that I had. I've always thought of what fictional characters I'd have on my apocalypse team... and I thought it would be fun to do this all Marvel Style... so yeah. I'll try to have 10 people on the team... not just from the MCU but from any Marvel Movie... so yeah! Heroes and villains... and maybe even side characters. In this version- doesn't matter if they're alive or dead- we're just going to assume they are alive. 1) Deadpool- So Deadpool is an obvious pick because he can't die. I feel like he might be the most annoying member of the apocalypse team... but I think we would get along fine. He's very badass and... he's just a good choice I think. 2) MJ from Spider Man: Homecoming- I was kind of trying to decide between her or Gwen Stacy from The Amazing Spiderman... and I suppose they could both be on the team... but there was just something I kind of liked about MJ. She was really negative and just pret

Scribbles About Books: The Poem and the Tablets in Matched

So I was going to do another "Scribbles About Books" on Chapter 10 of Matched... because although I'm reading this slowly... I kind of like it a little bit better now and this was another chapter that I really liked. If you want to read my review of chapter 7- you can check that out right  here . In this post I'm really just going to talk about the very ending of Chapter 10 and kind of go more into details... if you couldn't guess- about the Poem and The Tablets... or I guess most specifically the green "calming" tablet. So both of these kind of say a lot about the society and I think Ally Condie does a good job of leaving these parts kind of vague so that we can make our own assumptions of them I guess. Some little plot spoilers here... but Cassia finds 2 poems that her grandmother must have saved... which were a gift that her grandfather gave her before he died. The 2 Poems were different from the 100 Poems that everyone in The Society learns in

The BEST Songs of All Time... Maybe

Sooo... there is no "BEST SONG OF ALL TIME." Everyone has different tastes in music... no one will ever agree on everything. But I bet a large amount of people would agree on at least one of these songs... They probably deserve to be in the top 5 of all time at least.... or you know... at least like one of these songs. These are mostly Classic Rock songs... I feel like that's maybe a genre most people can kind of get on board with. 1) Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen  Does anyone dislike this song? It's by Queen... how could anyone not like Queen? This is unlike any other song really... it's totally crazy and out there... every part of the song is a little bit different... so it doesn't really get boring or anything. It starts out slow but then it gets faster and better as it goes on. It is just an awesome song that everyone has probably heard in their life at some point or other... and the reaction is probably pretty positive. I'm alway happy to hear it o

Throwback Thursday: The Big Sick Review

This is a movie that I missed in theaters although I really REALLY wanted to see it... and yeah. I'm kind of glad that I waited so long to see it and that I now own it...because this is just sort of amazing and one of the best movies I've ever seen maybe. I've been a fan of Kumail Nanjiani for a long time. He was on a show called Michael and Michael Have Issues with Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter... and they used to answer questions on twitter during the show and I remember asking Michael Showalter who the one guy was because I thought he was so funny and he said "Oh that's Kumail, he's a writer" and since then he's gotten more and more famous and yeah. He also has an X Files podcast and I'm a massive fan of The X Files... so I listened to that for a while too. I knew a little bit about his story with his wife Emily Gordon. I knew that sometime when they were dating she was in a coma and I knew he was from Pakistan. While I was watching

I Had A Dream That I Failed and It Went Viral...

Okay... so I know no one really likes to hear about people's dreams... but this one I think is super important to who I am and my blog right now... so I'm going to talk about it on here... and if anyone wants to read it... that's cool. So in the dream I was listening to some comedian's podcast... and it wasn't a real podcast... it wasn't even really a comedian that I know of at all... so it's no one or nothing real... but the name of the comedian was real... and for some reason this dream just seemed SOOOO real to me.  So I was listening to this podcast and I decided to review it for this blog. And since the comedian asked "hey you can email us here if you want us to talk about anything on the show" I decided to write a blog post about it. I forget if my review was of the podcast or about a movie or something that the comedian was on... I think I gave it a kind of bad review but I did the thing I've been doing on these blogs where I'

Toy Story Tuesday: Toy Story 2

Alright! Hope you guys are liking Toy Story Tuesday so far! This is the movie I feel like I watch the least out of all 3 movies... but it's still pretty important to shaping what Pixar is known for and it's just a great movie that I feel like I overlook too often. Okay so Toy Story 2... I'd say the funniest of the 3 Toy Story movies... this also seemed like the most adventurous of all the Toy Story Movies. I think the funny thing about these movies is that the Toys are on this HUGE adventure and in reality they are usually only a few minutes away from their home. I don't think Sunnyside was that far, Sid was just RIGHT next door to Andy and Al's Toy Barn isn't too far either... but with this one they also go to the airport and the stakes are pretty high because they're going to Japan. So... the most memorable part of Toy Story 2... the part that will kind of stick with you no matter what is the part where you learn Jessie was abandoned by her kid "E

Marvel Monday: Captain America- The Winter Soldier

Okay back with another Captain America Review! I know I did the Civil War Review before I actually started Marvel Monday... so idk if you saw that review or not... but I'll link it right  here  and hopefully you guys will check it out and like it. I loved Civil War and I thought the clear side to be on was Team Captain America... and I think this movie just kind of strengthened that belief for me... which is why I'm happy I'm watching the Marvel Movies out of order... just because at this point when soooo many Marvel movies have been released... I feel like it almost works better watching it as a Prequel than anything else. So anyway... I feel like super hero sequels usually start out pretty fast which makes it a little more exciting than the original movies... not that I've seen the original Captain America yet... but still! This one I think started out particularly fast... and there was so much going on that it seemed like The Winter Soldier himself was barely in th

The BEST Star Wars Music!

The first thing I need to mention is the Star Wars Lullaby Soundtrack. I babysit my niece who is a toddler and I like to play lullabies for her of different songs like this. They have a Hamilton Lullaby soundtrack- there's a Disney one... but my niece has really been liking this Star Wars one lately. I think because most of the songs are kind of fun... she can dance to the Cantina music, and the Star Wars Title Theme and the Force Theme are kind of fun and adventurous sounding... I think she likes that. She's fallen asleep while listening to some of the songs, but mostly I just kind of keep it on in the background while we're playing or if she gets a little grumpy. The funny thing is though- she does not like the Imperial March. One day when I had it on- she started to cry as soon as it played so I turned it right off. Today she was acting scared and kind of hugging onto anything that was close by while it was on... she just looked scared so I skipped it and went to the Can

A BUNCH of Oreo reviews!

Okay... so yeah here we have a bunch of Oreos that my friends and I reviewed... and I'm going to include their reactions as well as my own... so yeah this will be fun! Cherry Cola  Okay... so this one was pretty bad. It didn't taste like a Cherry Coke that I would drink... it was almost like a cherry toothpaste or cherry Kool Aid or something... but it did have popping cookies in it too... It took a while for me to get a pop and when everyone was getting it all at once... and it was a little bit much for us. It was like in our throats popping... and it was surprising to say the least. I actually kind of liked the popping candy... but the way my friends put it was that "it tastes like Cherry Asshole." Pistachio (Oreo Thins)  This isn't a super strong Pistachio flavor... it kind of tastes like a regular oreo- but if you take it apart it tastes a little more pistachio. I think these were what I was most excited for because I do love a pistachio taste... I w

Favorite Movie Friday: Role Models

So here is a weird pick for my favorite movie... I feel like this one makes sense though. This was actually the first R rated comedy that I saw by myself without sneaking in and without sneaking my friends in... plus it was maybe the funniest R rated comedy I had seen at the time. I don't exactly know why I found it so funny to be honest- but I do still like it today and it's still good. This movie- however- would not be made in 2018. There are tons of jokes that are like incredibly inappropriate and a little bit cringe worthy. A large plot point is Sean William Scott teaching a 10 year old kid to be his wing man... and how to pick up chicks and look at boobs... and that is weird. The kid is really funny because he's very sarcastic and he curses a whole lot and he's a cute kid os it's especially funny... but like I said... cringy. I feel like I didn't explain the plot of this movie a lot either... cause it's a bit of a weird one. Paul Rudd and Sean Willi

Oreo Party!

Okay... so this is something I think I've mentioned... but I'm really excited about it. I always see the flavors of oreos... but I never end up eating all of them... so I thought "Hey I want to have an Oreo party where we get a bunch of different flavors of oreos... and eat them! I told this idea to my friends and they supported my life choices... so they're up for it! We were going to have a party anyway- like I recently mentioned in my Queso dip post from yesterday... but now I said "yes! I'm bringing oreos!" So I think on Saturday I'll post actual reviews of these oreos and maybe even include some thoughts from my friends and rankings and reviews. Today I just wanted to introduce the concept of an Oreo Party and tell you some ideas of what to do at an oreo party. I went with a pretty good variety of oreos. I have some chocolate, some vanilla, some oreo thins and some regular oreos... I also went with double stuffed because... you can't go

How To NOT Make Queso Dip

Okay... so I've made Queso Dip before and from what I remember- it's pretty simple. You just need Cheese and Salsa... but trust me... it can go wrong! So my desire to make queso came from the fact that I'm going to my friends house tomorrow and we were going to order a lot of takeout... but we then decided to go out for tacos instead- and than that shifted to a Build Your Own Taco Bar at my friends apartment... so that's cool and that's why I was like "Oh I want to make some queso for that!" And I attempted. So I think you're supposed to use cubed cheese... I have some shredded Mexican Cheese from Craft that I thought would work... so I just put that in the oven with some Taco Sauce. I was out of salsa... so I just used the taco sauce. I didn't measure anything- I just kind of put these together and microwaved it for 30 Seconds. And... it sort of worked but not really the consistency of Queso. The cheese didn't melt down that much... so th

Toy Story Tuesday: Toy Story 1

So I mentioned Toy Story 3 being one of my favorite movies of all time... and I'm not sure it's better than the first movie... and I'm not sure the second movie isn't better than the first either... so yeah. I guess I'm just going to dive into all of these movies and we'll go over what's the best and why each of them are amazing on their own anyway! And I do love all of these movies individually... but they definitely do all play better as a trilogy than individual movies. If Pixar decided not to make another Toy Story movie after the first one... I don't think the story would be told. And although I was 18 when Toy Story 3 came out... I feel like that was the perfect completion to the story. And I know they're making or trying to make a Toy Story 4... I have a feeling there's still more story to tell and I'm excited for it. I know most people are skeptical because Toy Story 3 was amazing... but I'm trying to keep an open mind about Toy

True Story: The Stress of De-stressing

Okay... so this is a pretty funny story... that really happened to me a few minutes ago while I was trying to come up with blog ideas. Okay so recently I started subscribing to a youtube channel called "The Honest Guys." They are known for making meditation videos and playing relaxing music. I actually found them trying to find ambient noises while writing. I like thunderstorms and city sounds... and I found one of theirs and I liked it. Since then I've listened to a few of their meditation videos from time to time. I'll listen to their sleep talk downs and their headache healing video has been really helpful for me when I have headaches. Anyway I saw that they had a new video that was a 9 minute fantasy meditation for busy people and I thought "Okay" Because I don't usually commit enough to hear their longer videos. Lol. So I started listening to it and they said that this meditation was from a particular album of theirs called Gateways to Se

Shannon Loves: Pixar

Okay... so I have kind of a Pixar theme going on right now and I'd like to mention why I love Pixar and why Pixar means so much to me... so yeah. It all started when Toy Story came out! I was a kid... I remember seeing it in theaters with my dad, my sister and I think my sister's best friend at the time. My dad doesn't really go to a lot of movies- but I kind of wonder if he wanted to see the movie as much as we did. It was something different and my dad has always loved computers and technology... so I'm guessing he knew more about what Pixar was and why this was so special. Maybe we were just arguing or something and he wanted to get us out of the house... not really sure! But I remember seeing this in theaters and I loved it. I knew my toys came to life when I wasn't in the room! This confirmed it. Also... this is still something I kind of believe. No shame. I know that toys don't really come to life when you aren't in the room... but I mean come on!

Favorite Movie Friday: Monster's Inc

Okay... so I was going to watch Monster's Inc very carefully last night and give it a re-review... that didn't really end up happening. I just kind of casually watched it... so yeah. I just realized... I was really looking forward to watching the Bloopers and the Company Play at the end of the movie... I'm not sure if they didn't include that or if I turned it off early... but I LOVE that part! I really liked when Pixar used to have bloopers- I know that they've kind of gotten more serious tones to their movies since Monster's Inc and it wouldn't really make sense to have bloopers after Finding Nemo or Up or anything. I would like to see some during The Incredibles or Cars though! I think that would have made sense! And I saw this movie 3 times in theaters- 2 times in regular theaters and one when my sister was at Fordham and they showed a movie for Sibling's Weekend. The first 2 times I saw it they didn't have the bloopers but they had it when I

Movies That I Have Named As My Favorite Movies

So this is something I always think about but I've never really made the connection. There have been several movies where when I've seen them I've thought "This is The Best Movie Of All Time" and there are a few others that I think I can include in the list... so yeah. Some of them I think I can still call favorites- or I could recently call favorites. Some of them are newer movies that I'm adding to the list... but they deserve a place. Despicable Me Series  I feel like the most obvious pick for Favorite Movie is Despicable Me. I think I might do a whole "Shannon Loves" on this post explaining just why I like it so much... but this movie made me happy in college at exam time and I still love it today! I love the minions- I cracked up laughing the first time I saw them in a preview... I just think this is one of my favorite movies ever. Monster's Inc  This was my first favorite movie ever... so this has a special place to me. I just reall

Summer Bucket List! What I'd Like To Do This Summer!

Okay... so I know I'm late with this. It's August 1st when I'm posting this... but when I'm writing this it's almost Summer... and I suppose by the end of the month- I'll be able to tell you what I actually did do this summer! I feel like I don't have a lot here... but maybe I'll let you guys know! Go Outside  Okay so I think I'd like to spend a little time outside every day! I actually had a dream saying that in the summer I would make a vow to go outside for an hour every day. I think that my reasoning behind this dream was that prisoners get an hour outside a day and I was watching the "Prison Mike" episode of The Office... but I want to go outside some more. I think it'll be good. Read More  I think this is going to be part of my "Going Outside" because I want to read outside. I have some books I want to read and I'm excited to read them a little bit more. Family Adventures  I have a feeling I might be going
