Scribbles about Movies: Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever

This is going to be a weird review... there were a lot of things I liked about this movie and a lot of things I didn't like about it. Overall I liked the movie, it was cute, heartwarming and its something I can see actually watching several times throughout the years and holiday seasons. I thought the biggest problem with it was that it was wayyy wayyy too long. There is really no reason for a 2 hour long Grumpy Cat movie... It just got pretty boring kind of fast. Sooo I'll try to explain the premise of the movie... but it should be warned that this makes no sense at all. There were a lot of characters and so many stories and substories it was a bit much. The titular character of this movie is Grumpy Cat herself, voiced by the Amazing Aubrey Plaza, who redefines the word grumpy. Then there is a little girl named Chrystal who's parents just got divorced and had no friends, her mom, the elf that she flirts with, the pet store owner, all the pets, the security guy, the landl

Scribbles about Movies: Movies that I will always watch on TV

First off: Sorry I haven't been here the past couple days. I've had ideas to post and stuff but I just haven't really felt like sitting down and actually writing these things. Don't worry, I have plans and I'll get a lot of good posts out soon. Right now I'm just going to do a little random favorite movies type of thing. I've seen a lot of movies a bunch of times, but there are some that I will put on pretty much anytime they are on tv and I don't get tired of them. Most of these are typical girly movies or cartoons... but those I tend not to get tired of very easily. 1) My Big Fat Greek Wedding- I've most likely seen this movie more than any other movie ever. And it still makes me laugh so hard! Maybe its because I'm greek... but a lot of my non-greek friends love this movie too, so it is totally funny and awesome for a lot of people. Nia Vardalos is also my hero and we're basically bffs now. Lol she's one of the best people to follo

This Week In TV: Week of 11/16/14

Sunday  Once Upon A Time- Ohhhh my gosh! What is happening and why???? When Rumple took Hook's heart its like he took my heart too! And then at the end the touching scene with Emma and her parents and Henry and Elsa. And then the cliffhanger at the end... it was good. Can't believe it isn't on again for two weeks! Ugh! Bobs Burgers- This was kind of cute. I like that Bob admitted that Teddy was his best friend. I liked that Louise won the Ice game thingy... it wasn't my favorite episode but it was pretty good. Brooklyn 99- I appreciate that Brooklyn 99 does Thanksgiving episodes. I loved Friends Thanksgiving episodes, but I like a lot of workplace comedies now, and they don't do Thanksgiving. Hell Arrested Development never even did a Thanksgiving episode... could you IMAGINE Thanksgiving with the Bluths????? Lol. So funny to imagine... anyhoos this was a funny episode. I liked that Jake was in charge and I love when Holt and Jeffords are together. It's ju

Scribbles about TV: How To Get Away With Murder Winter Finale with lots and lots of spoilers. But I don't totally know what's going on... so yeah.

Soooo.... I love How To Get Away With Murder. I really do... but sometimes its just feels like there is only one episode of the show and its just all a repeat of that episode. I thought this would be different because we're finding out what happened to Sam, FINALLY... but I mean come on! There were so many recaps and they went over the same little details of his murder over and over and over again... that its like we knew all of this stuff already. I'm wayyyy more interested to learn who killed Lila instead of who killed Sam... but whatever. I'll get to my theory of that in a little bit... So first off... when they do the murder of Sam fake out at the beginning... that was brilliant and lame and frustrating. It was so lame he just fell down the stairs... and they were already talking about hiding the body and not calling the cops so it seemed legit. Then he attacks Rebecca and then BAM! Wes is there to save her and he kills Sam. The odd thing is though... I don't thin

Throwback Thursday: what it's like to work on Thanksgiving.

So somehow Thanksgiving became pretty much an opening act for Black Friday... And a lot of people think that's a terrible thing... And it's a little messed up, but in some ways it also makes Black Friday more like Thanksgiving. More people probably shop with their families than usual and that's always a nice thing. For the people working... From experience it isn't terrible. Usually, the customers aren't that violent or demanding. In fact, I think the majority of people are really nice around the holidays. Sure, a lot of the grumpier customers I've had have been around the holidays... But for the most part they aren't mean or anything. They make a mess, sure but for the most part it all gets cleaned by closing, so it isn't too too bad.  One thing I don't like is that it smells worse than any other day. Most people just had a big meal and they're stomach isn't feeling fantastic most likely... So there are farts. There is crop dusting an

Scribbles about TV: Top 5 episodes of Community

I've been rewatching Community a lot lately and honestly choosing a Top 5 episodes for this was not even hard. I mean that in a good way. The 5 episodes that are my favorite are kind of like a part of me. Lol Its like a fact about myself that I know, like my Favorite color or something. And usually I say that there's no real order with these... these are kind of in order. 5) Curriculum Unavailable- I really like Season 3... that will be apparent in this little selection. I thought that the idea of Abed going completely crazy town bananapants was great and everyone else is also crazytown bananapants along with him was just great. I loved the clips of all the weird things about Greendale and about everyone else. I love that it totally does seem legit that Greendale could be an insane asylum... its just wow. Wow. Lol. 4) Cooperative Calligraphy- This is the best Bottle Episode that ever existed. And I love that Abed is there explaining that it is a Bottle Episode and what a bo

Chart Chat: Weekly Charts 11/17

Soooo I usually post the weekly charts the day that they happen... top songs can change every hour I think instead of just every day... but it probably will be the same 5 damn songs they always play on the radio and that bug the living daylights out of me... with that being said here's the music charts! BTW If you want to listen to a podcast that is a lot better than what I'm posting, listen to Who Charted. That is where I got the idea from lol. Top 5 Songs  5) All About that Bass by Megan Trainor- If you read one of my old Chart posts... I used to be ALL ABOUT this song... but alas. That was a much simpler time. This song got old really fast and I'm not so sure its sending the message we think its sending. It does give a rather healthy body image... but really its like "Hey I'm Curvy. Objectify Me!" Which... isn't cool. If you read Tina Fey's quote about Kim Kardashian that has been circling the internet... which will probably be what REALLY break

This Week In TV- Week of 11/9/14

Sunday  Once Upon a Time- Good episode. I like the Snow Queen I like seeing her connection with Emma and Elsa, although this episode was mostly about Emma. I liked seeing Emma's dark side too... that is interesting and that she's actually a little jealous of her baby brother because he has things that she doesn't. It makes complete sense. I would be upset too. Brooklyn 99- Eva Longoria guest starred and she had amazing chemistry with Andy Samberg. Her character was funny and driven and powerful and I just really really liked her character. Eva Longoria is amazing, I loved her in Desperate Housewives and I think she's someone I would watch a show for. Like if she were to star in a new tv show, I would make a point of watching it for her. Monday-  Gotham- Catching up little by little... but this show isn't really wowing me anymore. Jane The Virgin- Good episode... not my favorite. I feel like the first few weeks were just nonstop excitement and the exciteme

Stuff that Happened this Week: 11/09/14

1) Amy Schumer gets Comedy Central to allow the word "Pussy" not to be bleeped on air- This is actually really funny and groundbreaking news. It totally makes sense because they say dick all the time on Comedy Central... but pussy is always shamed, and throughout history women's sexuality has been "shamed" which is totally the opposite of Amy's comedy personality, so I kind of love that. 2) New typeface designed to be easier for people with dyslexia- A lot of good things happening so far this week. This is pretty awesome. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that causes problems reading because letters appear differently. Its interesting that they've invented this and I kind of wonder why they didn't make this sooner. It seems like something that can be done obviously... but idk if it is something easy to make. I'm not sure but I think this is really useful and its a very cool thing! 3) New Star Wars Film Title Released- The New title for Disney&a

What I did today

Soooooo yeah here are just some thoughts and stuff that happened today that I thought I'd share. I watched a little bit of the HBO miniseries Olive Kittenridge... or Kitteridge or whatever its called... that is a super super weird show. Just from what I saw... its all very normal things that happen that are very boring and mundane and then something absolutely crazy will happen. Then the characters will react to the crazy thing that just happened and its very very odd. Like there was one scene where Olive stops in a hospital and I think she just stops there because its close and she has to pee and then she gets talking to this nurse who notices her ears look a little red. And they have this whole boring convo where the nurse asks if Olive is allergic to shellfish, Olive says no she isn't. The nurse said someone just had a really bad allergic reaction to shellfish and that Olive should get it checked out. Olive reluctantly does and then all of a sudden some guys with guns come

Useless Trivia you might not have known.

I know a lot of useless trivia... And I'm going to share that. I have one fun fact about London that I actually learned when I went there. Fleet Street aka the street where Sweeney Todd's barber shop is is a real place. A lot of people probably know that already but did you know that- had the story been true- the address where the Barber shop would have been is now a Starbucks. And next door to it, where Mrs. Lovett's pie shop would have been is now a McDonalds. Might make you think twice before ordering a Big Mac! During All in The Family there was a contract dispute with Carol O'connor, who played Archie Bunker. During this time, Archie Bunker was absent for a few episodes. Had they not settled on an agreement, they were going to kill off Archie! Can you imagine! Speaking of TV the first tv couple to have an implied sexual relationship was Morticia and Gomez Addams. Here's a bit of zombie trivia. Zombies were started as a way for slaves to escape. They wou

November 2014: It List

1) Yes Please by Amy Poehler-  Amy Poehler has a book now! And it is kind of amazing! Not kind of, really amazing and funny and really good. This will probably take me a little longer to read because its too big for me to bring on the train... plus I like extending reading these books so that I can feel like I'm bffs with these women for a long time. Lol. I love Amy Poehler and I love that she has a really funny book out. 2) Horns by Joe Hill -  I just finished this book and did a review on it... I loved it. I also did a review on the movie... didn't love that so much, but the book is really detailed and had lots of twists and just kept me interested all around. It was so sooo good. It's my kind of horror book because it had a little bit of everything. There was humor, some science fiction elements, a mystery that was very real. The end was really cool. Overall great book! 3) Jiff Whips Pumpkin Spice- This is delicious. It's a peanut butter spread that tastes like P

Shannon Goes Viral: WTF Did I Just See Edition.

There is a new meme going around that I like a lot because... its one of those videos that you watch and then you go... "What the f*ck did I just watch!" Which happen to be some of my favorite videos... so here is an array of favorites that will make you wonder what you watch lol. 1) Too Many Cooks- I've watched this twice already and I feel like I'm in an insane asylum. I've had the song stuck in my head all day. I was singing it to my dog... This is just the weirdest thing that exists... but you should watch it because it does exist. 2) Ahhh The Scalene Triangle- I take that back... this is the oddest thing that exists... don't watch this video in public and don't watch it if you're under the age of 13... Ahhh the Scalene Triangle... It escalates quickly... lol. 3) He Man singing What's Goin On- This is why the internet exists. To take He Man and make him a pop star. It is probably one of the best things on the internet. You can watch it fo

Scribbles About TV: New Characters I'm OBSESSED WITH!

So as you know... there are a lot of new shows I've been watching and loving... and there are a few characters I like more than others. Here are the ones I'm obsessed with. American Horror Story Freakshow  I'm going to start with one of my favorites: American Horror Story. I love Edward Mouldrake and I really hope that they bring him back. I thought his story was just soo sooo interesting. He kind of reminded me of the Ax Man... but he's a totally different and really interesting character. I think they've said his freakshow isn't gone and that he isn't going anywhere and I don't think he is. Also the newest member of his freakshow is another favorite: Twisty the clown! I didn't like Twisty when it first started because... he's just too scary and crazy. Once I heard his side of the story I actually went "Awwww!" He's adorable and his story is really great. I really felt bad for him, but also happy that he's in Edward Mould

This Week in TV- (Week of 11/2/14)

Sunday-  Once Upon a Time- I like the connection between Emma and the Snow Queen, but that is very creepy and dark. I liked that this episode focused around Belle, I thought that was great. I thought Belle's mom was going to be the missing sister, but I guess she wasn't. I'm not sure I totally understood everything that was going on, this is one of their harder to follow storylines, but overall it was good. The Affair- Must catch up! Bob's Burgers- I'm so happy this show is back! I thought it was really funny too. Tina fell in love with a fake ghost that Louise made up... it was just really good all around. They always have good Halloween episodes and this was really really great. Brooklyn 99- Really funny episode all around. Holt was good, it was funny that Jake and Amy found out about Gina and Boyle... The club scene was funny, and I like seeing the softer side of Rosa. She was especially good paired with Terry Crews character this week. Monday  Gotham

Scribbles about Movies: Horns Review (with spoilers)

So I just finished the book Horns yesterday and I decided to watch the movie a little after. And... I can recommend the book... but not so much the movie. Lol. It wasn't bad, if I hadn't read the book I would think "ohhh this is okay." But I did read it and it wasn't. They changed everything important from the book. The book uses a lot of time jumps as a way to show the background of each character and you really understand why they do the things they do. Its a big book, everything is explained in great detail and it all makes sense. We see flashbacks of Lee and Ig as kids and see how Lee talks about women. He talks about wanting girls to be "cherry" and virginal or innocent looking. It shows that he is insane and that yeah he killed Merrin. Also in the book Merrin's sister dies of cancer and she is really awful to Merrin and her father and said unforgivable things. Merrin didn't want to be like that and she didn't want to put Ig through th

Scribbles about Books: Horns by Joe Hill

I picked this book up not too long ago because after seeing the trailer for the movie and seeing it was based on a book I thought "Hey, that looks good. I should read the book." Then my friend gave me a Barnes and Noble gift card for my birthday and I thought "Hey I wanted to read Horns, I should grab that." And I did, and I had to read it around halloween of corse! So this is my kind of horror story first of all. I love that the universe it takes place in is very realistic and very small-town. If you've noticed in some of my other book reviews... I like mysteries that take place in small towns. And its very believable because the world and the characters are all so real. I think its a good book just for that. The book starts out with this guy Ignatious, or Ig a year after his girlfriend Merrin is murdered. He grows horns from out of his head... for no real reason. And then a few chapters in we find out who really did it and then we find out why and that thi

Scribbles about Songs: The songs on the radio I actually like right now

There are so many songs I'm completely sick of that I prefer listening to the commercials on the radio right now... If I hear Shake it off or All about that bass one more time... ughhh. Okay here they are. Stay With Me by Sam Smith- I'm a little tired of this song, but honestly I still like it. I like it better than the new song he has out... its just good. Even though he seems like a whiney bitch in the lyrics lol. I like it. Don't by Ed Sheeran- I really like Ed Sheeran. I love this song and I like sing. These songs I probably hear at least once a day on the radio and I'm still not sick of either one. Ed Sheeran is just really really talented. He can do lots of different music styles and this song in particular is really different and catchy and good. Best Day of my life by American Authors- This is an older song but its so positive and good. I heard a really good local band called Naked Twister cover this over the weekend and I really like it. This is my moms f

Scribbles about News: Feminist stuff!

This is really cool!  Goldie Blox  has a new commercial out announcing its new action figures made for girls. I think Goldie Blox is kind of a cool company because it originally started with science toys targeted for girls and now they have these really cool action figures made for girls. This commercial is quite brilliant also. Beauty isn't everything. Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way and they shouldn't have these unrealistic expectations for women. Its very nice to see that girls can play with action figures now. I'm so jealous that I didn't have these growing up, but I'm happy these exist for my own kids. In other feminist related news, Aerie sales have gone up since their campaign to not use photoshopped women to sell their merchandise. Good for them! American Eagle is my absolute favorite store and I buy most things at Aerie. Not to be TMI, but the quality of their underwear is wayyyy better than Pink, and I like their hoodies and leggings better

Woman Crush Wednesday: Women I'd love to see in the new Ghostbusters

So I'm gonna do something a little different this woman crush wednesday and write about all the women I would love to see in this movie. I don't think I'm going to mention the Queens... Amy and Tina (if you need to know a last name... this blog probably isn't for you.) I think thats a given... everyone knows them and loves them and I think that they will have some sort of cameo in the movie at least. Here are the ladies I'd really love to see. 1) Mindy Kaling- Duhhhh Mindy Kaling has to be in it! She mentioned an all female reboot of Ghostbusters in her book. I think she has to be in it. I don't know if I want her as the lead... I think she'd be good in the lead, don't get me wrong... but I'm not really focused on the lead just yet. Ghostbusters didn't really have a lead, all the men in that movie were just as memorable so thats why I'm not focusing on it. 2) Rebel Wilson- I love Rebel Wilson and I know she's kind of already had her b

Scribbles about Food: More Fall Food Faves

Pumpkin season is only halfway over! Its a little easier to find a lot of the pumpkin spice stuff... so I've tried some more things. And this is what I think of them. Thomas's Pumpkin Spice Bagels- These aren't quite as pumpkiny as they used to be I think. They're good... but not my total favorite Pumpkin Spice thing that exists. If you heat them up for too long, they lose their pumpkin flavor completely... so yeah. These are quite good though. Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffles- I had these last year and I liked them a lot... but I was living in a dorm and there was a weird taste of everything that was in the freezer... so yeah. Now I'm more excited about them because they won't get that weird taste. They are actually really delicious and quite spicey. Jiff Whips Pumpkin Pie- If there is one thing of all of these I recommend, it is this. These are sooo soo good. They aren't that peanut buttery, but the peanut butter flavor is still there and it just tastes li

This Week in TV- (week of 10/26/14)

Sunday  Once Upon A Time- Not a bad episode... I really liked the end. I feel like because of the Frozen storyline Once has gotten a bit more childish... it seems very teenage now. Also... they had this whole big thing last week about Rumplestilskin and the wizard and Mickey Mouse and this week they didn't do anything with that... I feel like thats kind of a huge missed opportunity! They keep doing that this season too... getting me all excited for one story and then leaving that storyline alone for the next few weeks and going onto something entirely different. Also not enough Hook... wtf? The Affair- I lost some interest in episode 2... not gonna lie. I still haven't watched it yet. I will catch up before next week, but its just hard to keep up with. Bobs Burgers- Seriously?????? What the hell happened to this show. Is it because of baseball or football or something? Why didn't they just wait for the season premier if they aren't going to show another episode fo

Scribbles about TV with major AHS Spoile- Shannon tries connecting all the seasons of AHS- Real Nerdy Stuff here. Lol.

So a few weeks ago I started to suspect that the AHS worlds were all connected, aside from Pepper being in both seasons. I figured that if I watched all the seasons at once I would start seeing these patterns, so the plan is to watch each season very slowly. I'm trying to have it so that the episodes are lined up with the current season, so I have to catch up a little bit, but I think it will be interesting. So far I've watched all the episodes of Freakshow, 2 episodes of Coven and the first episode of Murder House and Asylum. So the first connection that is quite obvious with each season is probably the most obvious: These are all American horror stories. They're quite American tales. The Murder House season is the stuff American stories are made of! American family moves from the East to the West in an attempt to put together their dysfunctional family... and they succeed, even if in a dark way because that's what America is about. The end is quite satirical. Also b

Stuff that happened this week (with a bit from the tail end of last week)

1) Disney's Hollywood Studio's to remove Mickey's Sorcerer's hat- This is just a dumb move to me. Their reasoning makes enough sense... but its stupid. I think that every land in Disney World has its own landmark thats iconic and I really thought this was Hollywood Studio's landmark. I think they've been trying to reinvent Hollywood Studios for a while and they still haven't really found a way to make it fit with the other Disney attractions. They say that it distracts from The Great Movie Ride and that they want to make it more "Classic Hollywood." But the hat is classic Disney and its iconic... it should be a landmark in the park. And it seems fitting to me that it is in Hollywood Studios since it is a big moment for Hollywood and for Disney. Idk... 2) Honey Boo Boo gets cancelled after mom is spotted dating a sex offender- TLC wasted no time with this one. TMZ reported that Honey Boo Boo's mom was dating a registered sex offender and it wa
