Movie Monday: Nightcrawler

Okay- so I've been wanting to see this movie for a while and honestly... it was awesome. Jake Gyllenhaal is just SUCH a good actor- especially in these weird types of roles like this one.

So this is a movie about Stringers for local tv stations and news stations. So these guys just go out to crime scenes with camcorders and try to get some footage of the crime or the accident or the victims- try to get interviews if they can and they sell the videos to the news for a few hundred dollars. And they work freelance for the most part- in this we see Gyllenhaal's character Louis start a company- but he's on his own for the most part with one intern that he is wayyy underpaying.

So Louis is extremely manipulative and even before he becomes a stringer- we see he's pretty crazy and potentially dangerous. We see him steal at the beginning to get the money for his camcorder and he beats up a cop too. He talks people into doing very dangerous things that benefit him or that he doesn't want to do himself... he doesn't report dangerous criminals to the cops until it's convenient for him... and he doesn't really care if people get killed because of it.

And as manipulative as his character is... we also get to see that the news is manipulative as well. They want to show the most graphic and disturbing videos and paint it in a picture that makes it look like tragic crimes happen in wealthy neighborhoods for no reason... it's just an interesting look at things.

This is based on a real stringer and from what my boyfriend found out- they say the movie was a little more tame than things that happened in real life. I don't know about that... but that is shocking to even think of because this movie is pretty gruesome.

It did have some slight hiccups... a lot of things are told in the form of a montage- actually 2 montages that are essentially back to back... but other than that it was a really great well paced movie that makes me want to watch more from Jake Gyllenhaal since this movie was really all him.

Alright I hope you guys like this!

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
