Review Time! Jawbreaker

Look at her go reviewin, reviewin, reviewin, somethin for you!

Okay, my "blog theme" idea is slightly copied off of youtubers like GlamLifeGuru and Daily Grace. No shock there. I recently wanted to clean my room- and I wanted to watch a movie that I had already seen or something while doing it, so I looked on HBO Go and saw that they had the movie "Jawbreaker". I had never seen Jawbreaker, but my sister liked it and told me to watch it, like years ago... so I decided cleaning can wait, I'm going to watch this move. And it was a good decision.

So basically it's a high school comedy, but its a little on the darker side. It's not like a dark comedy like how Young Adult was a dark comedy or anything like that, but its certainly very dark. Its about this group of girls in high school that are basically like "the plastics" in mean girls. There are two that are sort of the "leaders" of the group and one is Courtney (played to perfection by Rose McGowan) , the really mean crazy controlling one and the other is Liz, who is really nice and beautiful.

So the movie starts on Liz's 17th birthday where Courtney and her other friends (Marcie and Julie) kidnap Liz and gag her with a jawbreaker. They then throw her in the trunk of Courtney's car and they see her later dead with the jawbreaker lodged in her throat.

Courtney wants to hide the fact that they killed Liz and Marcie is on her side, but Julie wants nothing to do with them. She thinks that they should just go to the cops and tell them everything.

Meanwhile, the nerdy girl Fern comes to drop off Liz's things and Courtney then makes a deal with her to give her a makeover and they give her a new identity Vylette. And it's just really funny how that all pans out.

I don't want to give too much of the plot summary away because, I mean its an older movie. It's from 1999 it isn't like people haven't seen it, but if they haven't seen it I don't want to totally give everything away. The movie has a theme of like candy and death, which is a strange theme, but that's really what the movie is about. It shows both the tragedy and the sort of candy-coated parts of high school. I also really like that it is never stated whether or not Liz's death was a murder or what happened to Courtney after the school finds out (spoilers... but I mean its more than 10 years old). I just thought it was really clever, and it was a pretty creepy movie, but it was a comedy and a really funny one at that.

I think that this movie is really underrated. When people talk about "high school movies" there are mentions of movies like Clueless, Mean Girls, Easy A, and Heathers, but I've never really heard about this other than from my sister. I liked it a lot better than Clueless, I wasn't a big fan of Clueless, but I can see how people can watch it over and over and over again.

I also hear that they're working on a Jawbreaker Musical, which I actually kind of want to go to. I don't really see a lot of musicals because you usually need some money to see musicals, but this one I'm excited about. And hopefully I'll see it.

So that's my review I guess if I were to give it a grade maybe 3 and a half out of 5 stars? There were a lot of plot holes and it dragged on at times, but I could deal with it because it was so good.

So there is my review. My next review will be on my new favorite podcast... I won't tell you what it is, but let's just say I hope the sheriff's secret police will let me tell you what it is ;)

Byeeee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
