Review Time 2: Nightvale (podcast)

Okay so I'm going to start this off by saying this: I have no idea how to describe this podcast at all. It's a very different sort of podcast and there isn't a lot like it out there... but it's the type of podcast I think I needed in my life and I am amazed by how amazing it is.

So Welcome to Nightvale is basically a fake radio show that takes place in a fictional town called Nigtvale. If you couldn't tell by the fact that it's called Nightvale, its a really strange town that has angels, secret police, glow clouds, hovering cats that hide in men's bathrooms, and 5 headed dragons.

At first I was kind of like this is funny... but pretty weird. Idk if I'm going to listen to another episode. I listened to another episode. It was super funny and I was like "Okay, I can dig this." And it kind of got me obsessed just a tiny bit.

Why I like this so much and why I actually find it inspirational is that I like to write things of a similar nature. I think in creative writing we called it fantastical realism, I like calling it surreal realism because that is the kind of absurd double talk oxymoron type thing that I think fuels a really funny fantastical realistic story. And this is so great because you can imagine all of this being true when most of it is completely absurd. It's something I find interesting writing about and I'm kinda working on 2 things that are surreal realism.

Really the key to making everything seem believable is to create a world, which is exactly what this show does. It creates a quiet little desert town that has all these strange things happening in it. It reminds me a little bit of Parks and Recreation. Nightvale seems like a paranormal desert version of Pawnee. If you listen to the podcast and watch Parks and Rec, here are my parallels: Nightvale=Pawnee, Desert Bluffs= Eagleton, Steve Carlsberg= Jerry Gergitch, and Carlos= Chris. Plus they mention some hate for the library... sounds familiar.

I heard about the show from a youtuber named leighannsays who does beauty videos and she likes Breaking Bad and she's just really funny and awesome... and I take her recommendations to heart. She also said that she listened to it on an app called stitcher, which is free and has all the podcasts (as far as I know). Anyway I listen to it on the app which is really good and the show is really good and it's all just really good.

Ohhh another cool thing about the show, every episode for the weather portion they play a song from an indie band usually and it's pretty cool. They have all different types of music and it's a nice change.

This earns a Shannon review of 5 stars because it's such a great podcast. I know it isn't for everyone, but if you like fake radio shows, Parks and Recreation, anything weird, fantastical realism, or mockumentaries in general, you'll probably like it a lot.

All hail the glow cloud. ALL HAIL!

Byeee!
Shannon

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
