Music Monday: Rare by Selena Gomez Album review

So I do like Selena Gomez and I do like a lot of the songs on this album... but after listening to the whole thing I was sort of like "Huh. Not sure I'd listen to this again."

Selena Gomez has a really beautiful and powerful singing voice- and I think songs like "Lose You To Love Me" really showcase that in a way that is beautiful and heartbreaking. We all have seen Selena Gomez's public life, we know what she's been through and this song in particular just kind of makes me want to cry and I really do feel for her. I'm happy she wrote this song and got those feelings out there... but this is definitely the strongest song on the album and it really kind of shows her talents the best.

The rest of the album though... doesn't highlight her singing voice as much. There are a lot of songs that rely too heavily on Autotune and I just don't think she needs that. The song "People You Know"- a good song for the most part although I do kinda have some small gripes with it that are probably just a personal thing... but she's this amazingly talented singer and I just don't think she needs as much autotune as she uses. It makes the songs a little more forgettable and they just sound like a lot of other pop songs to me.

There are a lot of weird word choices in these songs that I don't think flow nicely. Like I mentioned with the song "People You Know"... It says people 4 times in just one line... and P is just kind of an odd sounding letter in songs... does anyone else not like a lot of the same letter or sound in one song? P is a weird one- especially the word People because my 5th grade teacher was really mean and in class she used to always call us students People... and it was annoying. So... I feel like maybe I just don't like that word and that's why I'm like "ugh this is a lot of times that they say people in this song" but... it's a weird sounding word. I feel like if I ever become a singer- which obviously I'm not going to... I would avoid P words.

So yeah the best songs on the album, obviously "Lose You To Love Me" is my favorite one, but I also like "Ring" "Rare" and "A Sweeter Place." These are the songs that stick out to me the most and the ones I'm like "Wow that has a great sound to it." I probably won't delete this album from my Apple Music just because I like the song Ring a lot- and I know I'm not going to listen to it if it's a single so I need to keep it as an album. It's weird but... that's why I'm reviewing the whole albums in these music mondays.

Like I said I can't say this is a bad album- I just feel like Selena is going to have something better for us someday. I don't know if people will look back on this and think "Wow this is Iconic."And maybe some of her other albums are better and this is just the first one I'm hearing so I'm slightly disappointed. Do you guys have a favorite Selena Gomez song or album? Let me know I'd love to check it out.

Bye!
-Shannon

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
