Book Review: We Met In December by Rosie Curtis

So I bought this book because I wanted something to read in December... and I actually ended up reading most of this after December... but it was still a fun read and it did show all of the seasons so really you could read this any time of year and it would be a lot of fun.

So I feel like I'm going to get confused while writing this and call it One Day in December... these are similar books. One Day in December by Josie Silver is a better book in my opinion so if you're just looking for one recommendation definitely pick that one up and don't be too confused by the covers because... they're different enough but they're both blue, they both take place in London... I could see getting the 2 confused. I don't think the authors copied one another... at least I hope they didn't but... they're not un-alike.

This is about a girl named Jess who gets a job in London and moves into a house with a friend and she has some other roommates as well. There's Rob who is a chef and he's never at the house, There's Emma who's very beautiful, Becky who is her friend and then there is Alex. Alex is a very good looking recently single male nurse. He quit law school to become a nurse after seeing nurses taking care of his sick father... and his fiance ended up dumping him because she was accustomed to the lifestyle of a wealthy lawyer as opposed to a nurse. Jess immediately falls for Alex, but refuses to make a move on him because of Becky's "No Couples" rule in the house.

In spite of the no couples rule, Alex ends up hooking up with Emma on New Year's Eve while Jess is away and not officially moved into the house yet. And the rest of the book focuses on the rest of the year. Jess and Alex become very close friends as Alex shows Jess around London, he ends things with Emma because she wants a relationship and he doesn't, Jess gets a boyfriend, Jess has a friend that gets engaged and struggles to try to get pregnant, Jess' Nana gets sick... a lot happens to bring Jess and Alex together and to break them apart in the course of a year.

I feel like this book was a little bit long. At some points it seemed very obvious that Jess and Alex should just get together already and then there were just more and more obstacles... and it was cute when they finally did get together- but I don't think the book really needed to be as long as it was. It was nice that it started and ended in December... but I still think a lot of things they had in the book weren't that important and a lot of the things they didn't really show in the book seemed like they could have maybe described a bit more. Maybe it was just because I was reading the book mostly on my lunch break and maybe I missed a few details... but it did seem like maybe they glossed over some good parts.

I think that my favorite character in the book was Alex. I just thought he was really well written and his character was very interesting on his own. I liked that he was a lawyer but then wanted to become a male nurse... it was an interesting way to show him I guess. I feel like Jess was the main character... but I think she was more interesting because of her relationships with everyone else and had there not been as many characters in the book- I feel like she wouldn't be as interesting of a character.

I also really loved the scenes where Alex showed Jess around London. I thought it was a good look at London and it was especially fun because it showed London through all of the seasons... and you did kind of feel like you were there with Alex and Jess... it was really nice. I feel like this would be a good book to read now because you do kind of feel like you're there. It doesn't make you feel as trapped in the house, or the lunch room or wherever you are.

I think I gave this 3 and a quarter out of five stars right after I read it... but I think maybe now that I've read some other books I'd maybe only give it 3. It's definitely not a bad book and I don't regret reading it... but I did kind of touch on some of the problems I had with it and it definitely isn't the best book of the year or anything I see reading again. It is very fun and cute and I probably would read more from Rosie Curtis.

Hope you guys like this review! I have a Funko Pop Haul tomorrow- so that might be exciting!

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
