Heyyy guys! Happy Blogmas! Today is actually quite a throwback because as I'm writing this... it's April 15th... lol. I just wanted to watch this movie because it was on HBO and I had a feeling they were going to take it off soon... and I was thinking of reviewing this in April... but I thought "nah... I'll just start writing Blogmas now." Not too surprising... I'm pretty sure I'm starting Blogoween soon too... lol.
Anyway back to the actual movie itself! I thought it was really funny and kind of interesting. I really liked all the characters and the situation that they got themselves into... but I also thought that the company itself was kind of interesting. They mentioned new Tech that they were developing and I know it wasn't a real tech company and they couldn't really do what they did at the end... but I still thought it was really cool and interesting to learn about. That's not really the "reason" to watch the movie... but it was pretty interesting and I think it added to the movie.
The plot and characters of the movie were kind of layered too... the trailer made me think that Clay (Tj Miller's character) just wanted to throw a big party before his boss/sister Carol (played by Jennifer Aniston) shut down his branch and fired everyone. I was kind of surprised that there was more to it than that. They were trying to impress a client. Carol and Clay's father had died- which left her as CEO and him as the boss of the branch. Jason Bateman had just finalized his divorce and was trying to make a move on Olivia Munn's character during the holiday party. They thought they could save the company by throwing this party to impress a client... there was just a lot to the movie that gave it some depth. It made it more than a silly over the top Christmas Comedy.
The beginning of the party reminded me a lot of the teen party scene in A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas... I thought the movie was going to be just like that scene... and it was a lot more than that... but I think I'd compare the movie as a whole to A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas. It didn't have all the tropes of a Christmas Movie the way that Harold and Kumar did... but I think if you like Harold and Kumar and you aren't just looking for a Christmas Movie Parody... you'd have fun watching this.
And that's kind of another thing I'd say about this movie... it isn't too Christmas-y. I would like to see this movie again sometime this season... I'm not sure it's going to be on or available as easily as it was in April oddly enough. TJ Miller was in legal trouble around april when I watched this movie... which is why I decided to watch it because I didn't know if it would still be on demand in a little while... it probably will be... but idk. I don't really think this is a Christmas Classic because you can watch and enjoy it any time of year... but also I hope its on around Christmas Time because I think it'd be good to watch then.
I hope that big ramble made some sense at least. Basically if you see this movie around now... that's good- but if you're reading this blog late and you happen to find this movie... it's still good to watch whenever and I would definitely recommend it!
