Scribbles About Movies: Love, Simon Review

Heyyy guys! Something exciting happened today! I went to the movies! My mom and I like going to the movies together... but we don't get out to much... but today we did and I thought "Love, Simon" looked like the most fun movie out. Also... this is a teen movie- and I've realized I'm slightly into teen movies. Especially now that I'm not a teen.

So the movie focuses on Simon who is a gay high schooler that's still in the closet... and how he's been dealing with coming out and trying to connect with a boy. Simon met the boy anonymously from a blog that's kind of like the high school's version of Gossip Girl when he posted that he felt like his life was like a Ferris Wheel with all the ups and downs... and then that inspired Simon to connect with him and say he was going through the same thing... and they just clicked and the Ferris Wheel guy didn't want to reveal who he was to Simon because he still wasn't ready to come out publicly... it was just a sweet and genuine friendship that turned into romance.

The movie was also told from the perspective of Simon... which I thought was interesting because it was very biased and the audience didn't really know what was going on. We saw when Simon would kind of envision who "Blue" (the ferris wheel guy) was and it was always someone different. And he would show his best friends coming out as straight, but he didn't necessarily know his best friends as well as he thought he did.

Someone in the movie finds out Simon's secrets and blackmails him... which ends up causing Simon to manipulate his best friends... and that's where the drama really starts... although I do have to say- I really loved the friend group in this movie. It felt very real... and honestly it was a lot more forgiving and less dramatic than other teen movies. Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies and I love it... but it gets misinterpreted a lot because everyone is so mean and it seems so fabulous. No one in this movie is necessarily mean... there's some selfishness and misunderstandings... but I liked the ending, and the friend group was one of my favorite parts of the movie.

So hopefully I didn't over-explain this movie... I just think it's a really fun one to see. I haven't seen a really fun movie like this in a while... and I needed to. I wanted to see Isle of Dogs also... because I do love Wes Anderson and I love  Dogs... but that just didn't look like a fun movie... and this one is just super fun and a great one to go out and see!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...
